  • I vote you don't put too much pressure on yourself and just go out for fun. Maybe go for a walk but wear your running stuff just in case you fancy a little jog while you're there. About a month ago I ran 10 miles without too many problems (I walked for bits but not that much). Today however, I could barely cover 1 mile…
  • It's great to read everyone's progress - we've become a group of runners which is very cool - I never thought I'd be part of a group of runners!?
  • I started it, the first week is (10 mins run, 1 walk) x 4 which I did once but it felt like a bit of a backward step when I've been running non-stop for 35/40 minutes anyway. I've decided that I'm probably going to run to work (8km) a few times a week instead of doing the 10k programme.
  • Yeah, brains are rubbish. Mine is always plotting against me.
  • Well I did run into work today. 8.4km in 1 hour and 7 minutes. so it was pretty slow but that was partly because I kept having to slow down or stop to get out of the way of the cars that were driving down the road. Once I got to the off-road section things got better, but then I had to stop to speak in the conference call…
  • Yeah so I didn't run in today, I cycled instead. When I told my 11 year old I was going to run to work he said "5 miles! that's too far, and anyway you run like this..." then he kind of flopped from foot to foot waggling his arms about and pulling a silly face. It kind of put me off - to be honest it was pretty accurate.
  • Well done! It can be off putting if you look too far ahead and see the 20+ minute of running, but by the time you get there the programme will have prepared you for it so your body will be able to do it (if you can just keep your mind from talking you out of it)
  • It's only 8km, I'm thinking of running in to work tomorrow!
  • Week 9 Day 1 (again) of the C210K programme - the C25K programme delivers you to week 9 so I haven't really done any of it so far. First run in a while where my shoe didn't rub, although i can feel it. The good new is that I've just discovered I get 15% off at runners need, so maybe I'll pop down there for a proper…
  • I went out for a 5k this morning and overtook another runner which I'm quite proud of. We were running towards each other and he turned about 50ft ahead of me and started to run in the same direction as me. It took me about 10 minutes to catch up with him, we chatted for a bit and then I said "right better get going, bye"…
  • I've been away for a bit so just catching up, it's great to see how many people are taking this on and doing really well. I completed the programme a couple of weeks ago and sadly have struggled for motivation since. I still don't "love" running yet, although I hate it less, and without the structure of the C25K programme…
  • There are lots of programmes for this, most people use an app for this, but here's an explanation from the NHS: http://www.nhs.uk/livewell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx
  • Yes, go slowly and get your legs/joints used to pounding they'll get, speed will come later.
  • Mine was 8 weeks - zenlabs like Rianne - which I completed a week or so ago and then haven't run since. Not been feeling great, feeling a bit blurgh. However today I got a message from @rianneonamission which prompted me to go for a run on the treadmill at work and try and sweat the funk away. I feel much better now, less…
  • Looks like we're similar pace. Well done on the run and on going up a hill, mine rout is all flat.
  • Anyone using Garmin connect and want to connect? I've set myself a goal to run 50km in the next 30 days and it would be fun to make these challenges with other people around my level or running.
  • Week 7 Day 3 completed today and because I'm a show off I ran the extra 5 minutes just to see how far I'd go in 30 minutes. The answer is not much further than if I'd just walked. The good news is that now know where the turn around point is for 5km and I have a 5k time of 45 minutes to beat.
  • I'm constantly surprised at how little my brain wants to help me, it's as though it doesn't actually like me.
  • What's brown and sticky. A stick
  • @tinkerbellang83 They say running is mostly mental, and the mental strength you have demonstrated by going for a run after going to the pub suggests that you will ace the colour fun run.
  • Week 7 day 2 finally done, should have happened on Saturday but stuff happened. The good news (well for me, it's irrelevant news for everyone else) is that I discovered a way to make my phone receive ANT+ signal from my Heart Rate Monitor, so my Strava record now contains my heart rate too. I was on the edge of buying a…
  • I'm a couple of weeks behind you @TheGaudyMagpie, I'm doing the 25 minute runs this week. Can't wait until I can do 5km because I'm then going to join a park run and make it part of my weekly routine. Sorry to hear about the allergies, fingers crossed for tomorrow's run.
  • go slow and take small strides but lots of them.
  • I could have written this.
  • SNAP - Day 1 of Week 7 for me too today and I got personal bests on my 1 mile and 2 mile times, probably because they're normally interrupted by walking. I run down a dirt track and back again so 25 minutes of running meant I went further than any previous runs. My run consists of the mental game of "just get to the…
  • It was week 6 day 3 was yesterday for me and that marked the end of the run/walk interval weeks, there's no more walking from here on in. Tomorrow is the first of the 25 minute runs. I'm covering about 4km during my runs so I think I probably need to run for about 35 minutes to get to 5km so I'm a few weeks away still.…
  • I've lost track a bit of who's at what stage so I thought I'd try and find out who's at what stage. I'll start: Steve25K : Week 6 Day 1 - 7th June
  • Week 6 Day 1 today went quite well. I've been watching youtube videos about form so tried to run a bit more upright today with my hips more under my body and I pumped my arms which I'm sure actually made a difference. The outcome was that my left shin didn't hurt as much, I felt a bit lighter on my feet and I'm sure I was…
  • Thank you @sarahbethkline, it's great to hear from people who have successfully completed this and gone on to run further. Congratulations.
