  • NOOOO WAAAAYYYYY! I'm so sorry you've had to experience this from your home life. And as for the *kitten* grabbing bits of you - I hope you reported them to the police for assault and/or sexual harassment.
  • I wish I had an answer. My stomach is currently full, but my head is saying 'feed me sweets!'. Sometimes I give in. Sometimes I tell my brain to shut up and do all those things we've all heard a million times (drink iced water/clean teeth/have a 'treat' drink like chocolate mint (the plant) and boiling water...) Sometimes…
  • Sounds like a familiar pattern! Happy to be a friend if you're still looking.
  • I can't comment on the trailer thing. Cycling is hard for us noobies (or returners) to it. But also - and forgive me if you'd already considered this - but by 'got air into them'... did you get enough air in? The first few times I went out on my bike after a long time off, it felt like I had zero power in my legs... then I…
  • Pants! Rant away! It's *kitten* here too, but I've got so many bits and pieces to drop around the villages I'm gonna have to brave it anyway.
  • Nice sounding set up @stephaniek511 . Today was much better. I dropped out of the (ridiculously packed) session this morning in favour of a much more relaxed 4 of us in a double lane at lunchtime. Slightly disappointed I ended up 3 lengths off a mile in the allotted time, but only had to go slow/stop about 4-5 times cos…
  • I've never even thought about baking then freezing my oven baked potatoes. What a great idea!
  • Whilst I don't disagree with this, and agree with much else they posted, I just want to shout out for the cardio lovers... Any kind of exercise is beneficial. Weights will help keep your muscles as you lose weight. Cardio (as the name suggests) will work your heart and lungs. Most peeps of here advocate a bit of both. You…
  • Hi ya! Well done on your loss - that's great! I'm a veggie by conscience so will (and do) eat beef products about once a month from my local farmer. I've not had that kind of reaction, even after a 3oz steak...
  • Hello! It seems we're not too sociable over on this group! But feel free to befriend me if you wish. I'm a reasonable online cheerleader!

  • I'm a fan of the slow cooker - bung meat and veg, or just veg, into the cooker. Put it on low first thing, and eat at dinner! Cottage cheese on rice cakes, fruit and raw veg for lunch. Overnight oats - prep last thing (2mins prep). Tasty brekkie. Even more filling if made with protein powder.
  • How did your swim go @stephaniek511? And - youch! @juliet3455... that's ridiculous pricing! I swam twice today o:) First thing at the pool - 40 mins and 1.3k (in the middle lane, supposedly for those who can swim 45 sec and under. Reality - anyone who can swim steadily, as the slow lane is full of walkers, floaters etc...…
  • Been swimming regularly since last post. Yesterday was a first go out with my 'toys'. Apparently, I'm not allowed to use paddles and fins in the pool as they're plastic and could scratch people... so that was frustrating. I was allowed to continue using my pull bouy, so used it for both kick and pull drills. Today I moved…
  • You've had great advice above, and seem to be reassured about your place in this, but I thought I'd reiterate a comment above about statistical outliers for completeness: Whilst all that's been said about 'athletes' verses 'normal people's versus 'cardio fiends and weight lifters' is true and valid - that's only true if…
  • 42 mins gentle BS for ?1.3k
  • Feeling 'blurgh' today, so whilst I hopped over to the fast lane and busted a gut doing so, I only lasted 30 mins with about (edited - apparently it was 4 mins rather than the originally estimated) 2 mins of that resting (aka getting out of the way of the faster swimmers!) - so 1.1k FC.
  • Yoga can build muscle/prevent you losing muscle as you lose fat - but really it's more a flexibility/injury prevention tool (and a meditative/spiritual exercise if that's your bag). The bike will help improve your lower body strength and cardio fitness. Both will cause some calorie deficit (depending on effort etc) but the…
  • You'll definitely feel it more today if you do run - but it may not be that dissimilar to how you feel on the 2nd/3rd work day. There are peeps who (work up to) running twice a day... so this should be fine. Just listen to your body, make sure you warm up/stretch after and get adequate rest per week. Enjoy your run!
  • Breast stroke today... 1 mile in 46 mins.
  • Nice one @bruceapple!
  • Just a thought - but you mentioned you played it with your Dad before... were these good memories? Bad? Significant memories in some way? Were there events that are linked with those days that are - perhaps - being triggered now? Might be worth just playing with your Bf and when those feelings come up, 'sit' with them and…
  • Aw! Was thinking of you just this morning wondering how you were getting on - but then MFP told me you'd hit your century logging, so knew you were still signing in. As a dog-mum myself, I feel your pain. I did the same for my older pup. They give us so much, we do what we can for them when they need us. However, remember…
  • 1 mile in 40 mins (whoop whoop!!!!)
  • Actually.... 1375m in 35 mins... so a 45 min mile is within my capacity it seems. Haven't lost as much swim fitness as I thought!
  • Mine is open from tomorrow. 45 mins only though, so doubt I'll hit a mile for a while (especially after 4 months off)
  • It depends on your starting position and what you like doing... Following threads like "what youtube workout did you do today" will give you great ideas. I create playlists of resistance bands workouts (mainly HASfit) and cardio dance (Popsugar) for indoor stuff and walk/cycle/yoga with Adriene for alternate days. My week…
  • Fitbit seemed to work for me (Versa), but as others have said, ymmv as their algorithms are based on the average... which means there are statistical outliers out there for whom it doesn't work. You may - or may not - be one of them. So try eating all the calories for 4 weeks - yes, it's a long time, but that's what it…
  • You've got grit aplenty but... you won't always be able to get a PB. Just look at competing athletes. Sometimes you've got to pat yourself on the back for just showing up! Keep up the hard work. Keep up the r n r, keep up the food and water and all good things will come (And all the other motivational bullcrap! Now get out…
  • I'm sorry... but that's just rank! Fair play to you for a)working so hard and b) getting back to it, but I'm just imagining a class full (dunno if this was Lockdown/ home or not) of sympathy retches!
