Welcome back!

No races, but I am plugging away at my training plan. I have not seen Augusts' numbers yet so not sure what I am doing yet. :)

Welcome!

Yep! Yay!

Looks like the one we have. Really needs to not be on the grass even though it has legs. :) We need to get some bricks or something to put ours on.
-
Ah man, sorry. Maybe just think of 2020 as a taper... year? :)

Yes, this is a very lucrative business for the malware people. There is very little ongoing expense and a huge potential profit. Sucky all the way around no matter what path they took and no matter what the press release says the cost of recovery will be passed on to consumers plus the costs of whatever extra means they…

Yes, if they had transaction logging on... but I would not trust those logs. Again, their systems were compromised at a point in time. Anything after that point in time has to be suspect. Data, logs, backups, anything. Only a very inexperienced admin would assume that a single piece of malware made it in through the hole.…

I have not dug into Wasted but as a form SysAdmin, I would be demanding a complete system wipe/restore. That is the only way to be sure they did not leverage whatever opening they used to get in to put other malware in. So who knows? The only facts we have are a couple vague statements by Garmin. We might never know the…

YAY!! Well done!
-
@mbaker566 sorry about the DNF, but with a hurt ankle, I think you made the correct call.
-
Maybe, but "we paid the ransom" would be admitting to a federal crime, so I would not expect to see anything suggesting that regardless of what they did.
-
Or they are saying that to prevent admitting to a crime. They could mean "10 mil is small enough we can carry on without it" or something. The only to thing to be sure is that announcement was very carefully worded by a team of experts. But it does seem to confirm the ransomware attack at least.

UPDATE: Garmin® issues statement on recent outage https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200727005634/en/Garmin®-issues-statement-outage/
-
Yeah, it is all rumors as Garmin has officially said nothing. We do not even have a confirmation that it was a ransomware attack. However, restoring from offline backups (which is what I would do over paying a ransom) would mean data loss. There is no way around it as they would have to use a backup from before the attack…

Yes it can, but I doubt it would be enforced in this case. As for the camera, odd. My browser permissions are set to block that so I did not have that issue. But if that link is trying to turn on people's camera's maybe we should have a moderator remove it. ETA: I reported my post and the link.

Rumor is Garmin paid the ransom... https://news-sky-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/news.sky.com/story/amp/garmin-obtains-decryption-key-after-ransomware-attack-12036761 :(

My watch synced this morning and Strava does NOT show double entries, but MFP does. No big deal to go through and delete the old manual ones, but wanted to give a heads up for anyone else that might have manually added exercise to MFP.
-
Yep, their status page is no longer a sea of red: https://connect.garmin.com/status/ So yay! Go team!
-
No one knows anything, but the rumors seem to point to a Russian group called "Evil Corp" using ransomware packaged called WastedLocker - but since Garmin is being really good about staying tight-lipped we have no actual facts just some leaks and outside observation. It does seem likely though. Gramin will have to make a…

With my 935 I can see the details on the watch itself, which is nice, but with the tiny watch screen it takes a lot of scrolling. :) I assume your Fenix 5 would be the same.
-
Yeah, I ended up, uploading my runs manually mainly so that my coach could see the data and so that MFP would be rightist for food again. I suspect there is a chance this will create duplicates when they are finally back up and syncing is live again, but I can just delete the manual entries if that happens. Or ignore them…

SUNDAY UPDATE - Pastor Vincent vs Boston! For those new/or with short memories I recently hired a coach to help me run faster - with the original goal of a BQ in 2021 (thanks to all the mess around COVID-19 and etc, this will probably be delayed but still a future goal). It is probably an unrealistic goal, but I am not…

They absolutely are working on it. The poor IT people probably have not been home since it started. We have the minor inconvenience of not tracking/recording the way we are used to, but I know IT and I know what they are going through right now and every single one of the IT workers wants this over far more than you. As do…

Way behind in thread... and new just reported we are on our way to be the hottest July since we started keeping records. It is already the second hottest, and we have a week left! Not sure about today's run. Might wimp out dunno. Just got home and well 2pm is not the best time of day during a record-breaking heatwave. :)

Altra makes a great 0 drop but still cushioned trail shoe. I have owned a few. The toe box is more "foot-shaped" so it is a better fit, at least for me, then most shoes. It might be a good one to try. If you are used to 8-10mm running shoes they will feel VERY odd to you. Like you are leaning back on your heal.
-
Oh yes, but it did not hurt at all. Itched a little the next day is all. It is allergy season in full bloom here so my biggest concern was I might cough while there and throw everyone into a panic. Thankfully we were in and out fast enough that I did not.

EASE into barefoot running, or even minimalist shoes. Your feet are not ready for it :) I had to give it up years ago due to Raynaud's, but it is still a good exercise. Running barefoot will help teach you better form. I mean you have to learn to land your foot softly, or it will hurt. :) Foot stomping is probably the…
