  • My daughter wears glasses. She has a face shield attached to her helmet. The face shields are required for kids.
  • Awesome job! At one tournament, I had to compete against higher belts, because no one signed up in my belt group. I ended up winning sparring! I was surprised. Always fun when you have to switch events like that. Keeps you on your toes, I guess.
  • And dexcom is the way to go!
  • If you have diabetes, and are on insulin, CGMs can be lifesavers, quite literally, especially if you have hypoglycemia unawareness. If you do not have diabetes, and are just asking for general weight loss/fitness purposes, it won't be useful to you at all.
  • for me, it's the last 10 lbs to my goal weight, which is based on my age, gender, height. since july, I've lost a whopping 4 pounds total (had some ups and downs), with a total weight loss since april of 20+ pounds. So for me, the last 10 has been difficult. but I've also had some traveling and family gatherings, which has…
  • My karate dojo is exactly the same!
  • Wow. Big tournament! Good luck!
  • Google 30 day push up challenge and you'll find all sorts of schedules that will help you gradually increase your push ups. Great job! Push ups are tough. It's taken me almost a year to get to 5 full push ups! I started with wall push-ups! Keep up the great work
  • Thanks! Just practiced wansu and solid stance five, as well as some basics. Helps that my daughter is a black belt and can coach me. @shadowbaby4 glad I don't have a written test! I'd feel like I was back in school. @Bluebell2325 let us know how the tournament goes, if you decide to do it!
  • Been working on self defense sets this week, which is not necessarily much of a fitness workout. But at home, on my own, been running (almost five miles yesterday) and kata. Kata is definitely a workout. And I know I need to work on sparring more!
  • No, acetaminophen will not affect weight loss. But how are you estimating calorie burn from exercise? My guess is you are likely overestimating calorie burn. If you are currently eating back all your exercise calories, I'd try eating back only half.
  • Amen!! There is so much more to good health than just eating and exercise. And we don't pay enough attention to things like sleep and happiness, and making meaningful connections.
  • Very true. I'm fairly fit, so had an advantage there. I'd probably do even better with free sparring, rather than point.
  • Did a four mile run, but daughter was sick, so missed class. Which is a bummer, because Saturday is a "back to basics" class, where we really clean up and perfect our basic techniques.
  • Awesome!! Congrats. I've done 2 tournaments, and at one, was the only one in my division. I had to fight someone 2 belt ranks above me, but I won.
  • I'm a stress eater, too, and my job is often emotionally draining. And I'm constantly going, going, going. When I finally can sit still and eat, I have a hard time not bingeing. Lots of great ideas on here. I've taken up drawing and doing those adult coloring books. I feel a little silly doing the coloring books, and I'm…
  • @Bluebell2325 My story is so similar to yours! My daughter started karate about 5 years ago at age 5. She is now a black belt. I opened my big mouth and promised her that I would take karate once she made black belt. her interest was waning at the time, so I thought I wouldn't have to deliver. well, she made black belt in…
  • can I say my daughter? she's how I got into karate...she's a black belt at 11!
  • this is why I hate the term "super food," or even "clean eating." bottom line: yes, blueberries or kale or beets or whatever the newest thing is have loads of nutrients, antioxidants, fiber, etc etc that are good for you. but they won't magically allow you to defy the laws of thermodynamics. you can't drink 800 calories of…
  • My daughter's school has a great policy. If you are hungry, you can eat during class time, BUT only if it is fresh fruit or fresh veggies. No hummus, or ranch dressing, or dried fruit. Only fresh fruit/veg. No restrictions on what they can eat at lunch (other than what restrictions parents impose). I love it, because it…
  • Daily burn has videos you can download and do at home, and they have a beginner program. Fitness lender.com also has videos to do at home, and best of all is free!
  • You've made my day by quoting ab Fab. Can we also work in the "tax the stupid people" line somehow???
  • this topic definitely has some grey areas. I've had co-workers comment on the fact that they have noticed I've lost weight and that I look much healthier and fitter. I actually find this encouraging! I had one person who hadn't seen me in awhile say, "wow, you look like an athlete!" I think this type of comment is not a…
  • thanks, @maidengirl_ and you look fabulous!! patience, right?
  • thanks, that was my feeling. losing slowly but happily seems a recipe for long term success. I've lost enough that I feel generally healthy, so now it's just losing the last bit to really be fit.
  • One thing I have LOVED is a service called Platejoy. now, it does NOT deliver groceries, but it does generate recipes/meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an aim to reduce food waste. it is super personalized--you fill out a survey detailing how many people you are cooking for, food preferences, if you are any…
  • You can add me! In general, I try and avoid the term "clean eating," because it is so loaded (you may have stirred a pot here....). but I do try and eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, and make most of my meals from scratch.
  • I liked insanity, it's definitely a full body workout. That being said, it is high impact. If you have any knee or back problems, may not be the best thing for you. My husband tried it, but it really aggravated an old knee injury. And like others have said, you likely won't be able to keep up at first. Go at your own pace,…
  • Awesome job!!! I have a big family reunion next week. Hope I can do as well as you!
  • It's a MFP post! I never underestimate the ability of even the most benign question generating a discussion that veers into a rigorous debate about something or other. Now we just need to work in clean eating, CICO, keto diet, and "junk" food and we'll be all set. but, in all seriousness, thanks all for the comments, they…
