On page four of this thread you posted a photo showing that your maintenance level was 1647 calories, and said that you burned an additional 400-600 calories 3 or 4 days a week doing cardio. Now you are claiming that at 1200 calories a day you lose only 1/4 to a 1/3 lb a month??? If that was true, that would mean that your…

If you are trying to say that consuming 1400 calories one day put you at maintenance for the whole week then you have some logging issues or something else going on. You may be short, but even at 1400 calories I would imagine you were still in a deficit for the day. It may not have been the 500 calorie deficit that you had…

You ate below your maintenance calories. That's all you need to say. You are over-complicating something that is not a difficult concept to grasp. If you are looking to lose weight then you need to consume less calories than you burn. That's it.

Too much of anything is bad for you. How is drinking non diet soda(which you suggested people should "man up" and drink) any better for you? You can't make the claim that diet soda is worse with no data to back it up and expect anyone here to not say anything. This is the same unsubstantiated and uneducated claim that gets…

Why would you even log grocery shopping as exercise? Am I missing something here? Why wouldn't you consider that as part of your normal daily activity level?

I have never seen a single person argue that a thousand calories of two different foods have the same nutritional value. The fact is a thousand calories is a thousand calories period. You can't confuse calories and nutrition in this argument. It is like arguing the difference between a thousand pounds of feathers vs a…

What other "bro science" would you be referring to then if you were being sarcastic when you mentioned CICO? I ask because I didn't see anything but actual logic being used to refute what you were saying. Even if you were being sarcastic, this is your second post in a short time to mention CICO in a negative light. I find…

In response to the bold, you are one of the people that you are complaining about. You literally just said: "Mark my words. Carbs should be the smallest of your macros. (fats and protein are what you evolved over millions of years to run on)" That is your opinion that you defend by cherry picking bits and pieces of…
-
Oh, well since your friend won't touch protein powder, then clearly the rest of us who do are wrong. Seriously, this whole post is a train wreck. A treat is a treat? Cool. What is your point? Drink water when you are thirsty? How is that an unpopular opinion?
-
Nobody is disputing that you burn more calories exercising vs sleeping. What people have a problem with is when you said: "Any nutritionist is going tell you that you need to exercise to burn calories. Saying, "losing weight is an effect of burning more calories than you consume" and exercise "isn't required" makes you…
-
Umm....Yes, it's true. Any nutritionist is going tell you that you need to exercise to burn calories. Saying, "losing weight is an effect of burning more calories than you consume" and exercise "isn't required" makes you look like a damn fool.
Wow, some strong language from someone who is completely incorrect.…

If you weren't accurate with your logging, and you think you were eating at maintenance then how would you know? You should be eating at a deficit based on your TDEE minus your weekly weight loss goal, and then maybe eating back half of your exercise calories(depending on the type and duration of the exercise).
-
This doesn't make sense. You won't lose at maintenance even if your calorie level was higher before you started reaching maintenance. You need to be at a deficit to lose weight.
-
It's just going to be a challenge to do that and also have a varied diet.
It certainly dramatically limits your fruit and veg choices.
The confusion as always lies in what that particular person's definition of "processed" foods are. Almost everything is processed in some way, and if that is what they mean…
-
Something can be varied and still exclude certain things. Varied does not necessarily mean all inclusive, it just means that it incorporates a number of different types or elements. I'm fairly certain your diet probably has conditions as well, or would you literally eat anything?
-
Yeah, at the very end you said that, but you start out your post by saying "When it comes to any weight training, unless it's at Olympic qualify form, it doesn't count." That was what you stated was your unpopular opinion, so don't try to walk it back now because you have been called out for having poor logic and sounding…

This is literally the point I was trying to make in my post. I was pointing out by the original posters logic a size 12 would be considered overweight since they say the average woman is a size 12 and the average woman is overweight. This is why I ended my post by saying what really matters is being at a healthy weight.
-
That makes sense, I didn't see the statement you were responding to, but understand you taking exception to it. I just know as a man, I wouldn't really have much of an idea, or to be honest care what a woman's dress size was. If you are healthy and feel confident and comfortable then it shouldn't really matter what size…
-
I don't know that I completely buy that this is the case. By your own admission you state that the average woman is overfat, so if the average woman is a size 12, and the average woman is overfat then wouldn't you expect most women who are a size 12 to be overfat? I think maybe there is an issue with women themselves…

My unpopular opinion is that society has gone way too far to accommodate the overweight/obese. I think that HAES and other fat acceptance related groups are just contributing to making the problem worse. If two thirds of the population smoked, that wouldn't make it ok to normalize smoking. That wouldn't make it right to…

I think to really know whether that is true or not we need to accurately define the word "dumbest"...

500cc of blood weighs just over a pound, but your body may retain water after giving to compensate. Regardless, giving blood really should not be relied on as a weight loss tool.
-
But you haven't even defined what fattening is. How high do the calories have to be in a food to be fattening in your opinion? That 1500 calorie meal is not fattening to me because I still stick to my maintenance level. There are people out there eating salad and chicken(examples you gave) and going over their maintenance…
-
Exactly. Also, by this definition a food could be fattening for one person, but not for another. It would be dependant on their maintenance levels. A 1500 calorie meal may be able to fit into my overall calorie goals for the day, but I know for a lot of people around here it would put them well over.
-
So if someone did eat enough chicken and salad to gain weight, would it be the food's fault in that scenario as well? Whether you are over maintenance eating pizza and donuts, or chicken and salad, it is still up to the individual eating it to regulate how much they eat.
-
Wait, so we can only watch a documentary about something if it specifically fits who we are? If that is the case then it concerns me how many documentaries there are about murderers. If you are on MFP, especially in the forums, then there is clearly a level of interest in diet and it's relationship to health. I watched the…

How does this even make sense? As Stef said, you need to eat to live, and food is your fuel. You need a calorie deficit to lose weight and that is it. Balanced macros are good for nutrition but not necessary for weight loss. With that being said, I think the more balanced the diet, the more sustainable the weight loss will…

It is exactly because people such as you and janejellyroll are educated that this person is willing to just leave a link to a video and bolt. It is hard to defend what you are trying to say when there is no concrete evidence backing it up. There certainly is nothing wrong with eating only a plant based diet, but I have yet…
