I think you are right about the populations. Thanks for the compliment on my book. It's my life's work. Where did you see an ad?

You'll be famished, and if you continued to do that for very long, you'd get sick. I know some people like to fast in the religious traditions, sometimes nothing for days, but I think that's a bad idea. Better to eat and lose modestly.

Eat fewer calories than you burn, using the Mifflin-St. Jeor equation and the activity level you can live with forever. Never eat more than your living MR and try to have an average consumption over the week of half the living MR, never going below 1000 calories on any given day.

Learning about the myfitnesspal community. There is no "reply" button to click, so I assume the "quote" mechanism is the way reply to a reply.

I am a recovered food addict, was overweight, unable to create moderation and tormented by it for 25 years. By approaching it as an addiction problem and creating abstinence of compulsive overeating between planned meals, among other strategies, I lost 140 pounds and have kept it off for 30 years. It has been a blessing…

Yes, a Whopper Jr. is a good deal at 320 too.

Take a look at my comment above.

It's Hellman's Low Fat Mayo, 2 TBS, and I squished it over the edge of the bread for a dramatic flair. From my article: "My BLT shown above is only 250 calories. I make a great ham and cheese sandwich at only 270. How can that be, you say, with all that bread, mayo and bacon or ham and cheese? Easy. I use Publix reduced…

Yes, @breathless575 , Walden Farms products are great! 0 calorie dressings! My favorite is the Balsamic Vinegret.

@wellnesschaser - Was it mainly CBT or more of my work that you wanted to read about? If you Google "William Anderson, LMHC" you'll find loads of my work. My eclectic behavior therapy for weight loss is heavily CBT, but I generally don't label it as such. I just lead readers and clients to think in new ways. If you Google…

@wellnesschaser - Yes, it is one of the many facets of CBT. There will never be an end to them, as they are limitless as the imagination and inventiveness of the mind is limitless. The concept is as old as man itself, with many teachings of it in the Bible and works of other great philosophers. It has always been thought…

@Tiny_Dancer_in_Pink - No, can't say I've heard of that, but there are so many! The first diet I was put on was 1956, and that's when my weight and eating problems started! We could fill books with all the diets I tried until I quit with the diets.

@endlessfall16 - Great! The good strategies (which are in the mind!) are what behavior therapy is all about, programming them in with conditioning and modeling technique so they become habitual and automatic. "Will-power" and good intentions are usually not enough. It's a science that has evolved since the 1960's and has…

@Bex953172 - There is a big connection between neurotransmitter action (what the meds affect), mood, and eating drive. It is not well understood. Make sure your prescriber knows about all you experience, and you should be working with a therapist who specializes in eating disorders too. I think CBT is the best therapy…

@domeofstars - I love it - "You can't outrun your fork" I will remember this quip, use it, and thank you for sharing it!

@tinkerbellang83 - Many of my clients use myfitnesspal for calorie tracking. Some have looked at the app's other features but I don't think many have gotten too far looking at it. I admit I looked at it, but quickly lost patience. I'm happy with my success, am not very high-tech and my time is already pretty much filled. I…

Nothing succeeds like success. If you are doing well and happy with it, there is no need to change. I offer ideas with the best of intent for those who ask, and no one need to follow me if they don't want to. I advise everyone to work with their doctor and I've had marvelous results for 30 years, not one client without…
-
@jlsturgeon2 - You are practicing beautiful CBT! Great work! I would never have been successful without quantifying the calories I was putting in my body by accurate tracking. I never tried to track the caloric expenditure of my daily activity. For one, I don't think the methods are valid. And I think there is too great a…
-
@tinkerbellang83 - I'd never advise anyone to consume fewer than and average of 1000 calories per day through the week, never fewer than 800 on any given day. And I advise everyone to work with their doctor and get regular check -ups. Most clients average 1000 to 1200 per day. Tiny sedentary women have it really difficult.…

@DamieBird - The Mifflin-St. Jeor equation is the most accurate formula for estimate of energy usage. The only way to get a more accurate read is with direct or indirect calorimetry. Creation of caloric defeats is the only way to lose weight, by eating fewer calories than would fuel your activity.
-
@janejellyroll - The caloric range you are talking about is very low. What is your age, gender, height, desired weight and activity level?
-
@TeaBea - Yes, this is for weight loss for people who are overweight. The caloric range you are talking about is very low. What is your age, gender, height, desired weight and activity level?
-
@RoxieDawn - What is your age, gender, height, desired weight and activity level?

@domeofstars - Nothing succeeds like success! You have a strength and ability I never developed, though I found a way to thwart the devilish CO! Whatever works for the individual is a good thing and a great find. Good work!
-
@EbonyDahlia - Yes, I know I sound like an evangelist, and yes, I am on a mission. I'm a counselor, teacher, writer and recovered obese person and I've found my life's work in helping people solve their weight/food problem and reversing the obesity epidemic, by spreading valuable knowledge and encouragement.

@joan6630 - I tried finding things to snack on safely, thousands of times. It never worked. I finally decided to quit looking for things to snack on, and that is when I came upon the very black and white thinking of planned meals and "fasting" in between. It's was the only way I could succeed. The eating switch is either…
-
@craigo3154 - Your plan is very sensical. Although it is not identical to what I teach, I see no glaring problems with what you are doing, and a lot of good technique and ideas. The problem with "common sense" is that is too uncommon (ha-ha), and the reality is that a lot of established behavioral science is assembled from…
-
@cmriverside - Yes, I am very familiar with AA, the Bible and Buddhism. No, I did not invent them, or behavioral science. I studied them as well as discovering some truths myself because of my own experience rather than from my studies of addictions and behavior therapy. I am a teacher and counselor and help people with…
-
@auntiejen2 - Everything is experienced through our psyche. Cravings are sometimes the result of physiological stimuli, and sometimes the result of conditioning.
-
@joan6630 - I "fast" between planned meals. This is another behavioral strategy I pioneered. For me and other addicts, there are no safe things to snack on. If I had a few carrots, all that did was make me want something decent, and then it was one thing after another. Plan specific times when you'll eat, and "fast"…
