If you have not read this thread and you want good ideas, read it now. It will infuse your mind and spirit with good plans and energy to make your meal planning healthy and smart. It's as good as any group session I've run focusing on meal planning and eating out. Great work, myfitnesspal members!

There's way too much confusion about the calories in rice here. Let's clear it up. Rice is usually 100 to 150 calories per 1/2 cup serving the way you eat it. It's a great deal! Here are the facts: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/calories/rice-a-roni-spanish-rice-as-prepared-112735639…

Actually 1/3 cup of prepared Spanish Rice a Roni is about 85 calories, not 300. Rice can be a great deal!

Every weekend I do roasts, as big as I can get. Pot roasts, pork roasts, spare ribs, lamb shanks, turkey, chicken... I intentionally make lots of leftovers and put them up in Ziplocks and freeze them in serving sizes. I've always got a bunch in the freezer. They heat up pretty quickly and I serve them with frozen…

I lost 140 pounds and have kept it off for over 30 years. That's after 25 years of being overweight and failing with faulty diet and exercise schemes. In the end, success came with developing habits that get the caloric balance right. Now, it's easy. It's all habit.

Thanks for all the great sharing of ideas and experience. To be clear, I am not suggesting that my way of doing things is the only way. I think our goal needs to be to create a happy healthy life, and part of that is finding a way to eat that helps us be happy and healthy. There are many ways of doing that, and when you…

Looks great, but a bit heavy for lunch for me. The 600 would be fine for my dinner, but a hamburg is just not my idea of dinner! I'm old-fashioned and like the traditional dinner plate with meat, starch and veg at the end of the day! However, that 600 Wendy's meal surprised me. Good find!

And only 270 calories!

My work, the patients and clients, as well as my own recovery from being overweight, are central to my life. They are the reason for the use of myfitness pal. When I contribute to discussions of diet and weight loss help, it is they that I am thinking of as well as the other people here. We share what we know about in our…

It took a while to form a "repertoire", but now my house is stocked with all the ingredients for 5 different breakfasts, 4 different lunches, and about 15 different dinners, the components mainly in the freezer. The portions are the habits I've been practicing for years, so there is no real work anymore, not much thinking…

I have a client who has an office and home in France, husband from Paris, and they are astonished to see the way we eat here. When they spend time here, they gain, and cannot wait to get back to Paris. They are spending more and more time in France every year.

Here's another idea for lunch if you want help with diet and weight loss, especially if you work, have a family, and are overwhelmed. Fitlife Foods recently opened in my town, selling high quality prepared meals, reasonably priced, all fresh, and offered in different sizes to accommodate different desires in caloric…

@Tiny_Dancer_in_Pink and @RuNaRoUnDaFiEld , 1329 calories for lunch does not sound like a weight loss lunch for people, unless they are exercising like an athlete for hours every day!

Very cool! I'm a participant in NWCR too! In fact, I started learning from them with the work they did before they organized themselves as the NWCR! Social media is an interesting phenomenon. I'm not accustomed to forums, though I engage on Facebook with a lot of people regarding current events and politics. That's…

I gave a good working definition of an addict. I am not diagnosing anyone here.
-
A good working definition for an addict is someone who, when they indulge in the behavior, it causes problems, yet they continue to do it. A healthy person stops doing what is hurting them. In the clinic I referred to, all the clinicians were overweight and obese. We had a treatment team meeting every morning with pastries…

Thanks, I really appreciate that. It never gets old feeling good about this victory. Today was unusual, checking all these messages coming in, like a full mailbox. I can't do that all the time but I'll check back again later or tomorrow.

Thanks. I don't expect to spend a lot of time conversing here, just too many other things to do. But I'll be helpful where I can.
-
I am learning as much as I can in the time available. I'm not really interested in chatting unless I can be helpful. So please forgive me if I don't reply to you anymore. I don't see that our conversation helps anyone.

I am not doing research or a study. I asked a question. You don't need to answer or be offended.
-
You've done great. To answer your question, I'm here to learn and share knowledge with others. It need not cost anything to anyone here. I am a professional, and while some are opposed to paying teachers and doctors, etc. we all choose a professional path in life, and hopefully, it satisfies not only needing to have a…

My field is behavioral science related to weight loss.
-
Well, I plead guilty to being unfamiliar with this. I'm old and low-tech, but my life's work is helping people, especially with weight loss. Being part of a group that had a common interest in fitness and General Diet and Weight Loss Help seemed like something I should be a part of. As far as selling products and wisdom, I…

I am a counselor, therapist, teacher, writer, and don't market anything other than a book that you can get at the library if you want.
-
Well, I am stating who I am and what I do. Most people appreciate that. It's OK if you don't like it. I like what I do and the contact I have with most people and they do too!
-
@hproscia - Sounds familiar! I actually quit a job because it was such a pain with all the food addicts' insistence on having the place be a smorgasbord all the time. It was ironic, because it was a mental health clinic that was treating addicts! Have no fear! You can win again. [/list]

It's very supportive.
-
It's only important because I'm curious and like to know things I don't know yet. I know some of my clients have used myfitnesspal to track calories rather than a written log. When I was Googling for "weight loss support groups" to refer them to, this site appeared with a few others. I'm checking them out.
