  • You look wonderful. What a fabulous achievement.
  • Something is way off here. Where did you get these figures? As someone else said, you're a normal weight for your height -- close to overweight, but still normal. Where did the 39% body fat come from? I believe 30% and above is obese, so I don't understand how you can be a normal weight and have that body fat percent.
  • I too gained a lot of weight eating out and eating high calorie, sugary snacks all the time (in my case, mindless eating without regard to the calories). I lost the weight about a year ago and have kept it off so far. MFP is a great tool to see exactly what you are actually eating.
  • I pay someone to cut my grass because my lawn has steep hills. I clip the shrubbery, weed, and mulch.
  • That's interesting. I see your point about the possible fluid connection. Thanks for the link.
  • That's a good point about potassium. I'm tracking it here on MFP. I added a banana a day, even though I don't care for them. I eat a lot of lentils and vegetables. I rarely hit 4700 mg a day but come close.
  • I drink alcohol about once every two years, so that's out. Nope, no fast food. I very rarely eat it plus watch salad dressings, read labels and eat a lot of whole food. I also read in some study somewhere that people who had the best blood pressure were not very low on sodium either, but somewhere in the middle (I did not…
  • That's a good idea about the food list. I eat almonds and spinach salads every day. You're right about the BP cuff, but I will have to drag myself kicking and screaming to buy one. I'm a widow who took care of my very ill late husband for many years and at this point I have an aversion to anything medical. However, I will…
  • I agree, it's a mystery. However, over the past week, since I stopped the multivitamin, my BP has gone down to normal. Yesterday I went for an annual checkup for an unrelated issue and my BP was 121/74. It's been running between 140-160/80-90 until I stopped the multivitamin. Before the multivitamin, my BP was…
  • I started to take the multivitamin because I had borderline low Vitamin D on a blood test. It wasn't low enough for treatment with supplements the doctor would give, but was very near. I began eating more Vit D fortified food, getting outdoors at least 15 minutes a day -- and started a multivitamin, all of which I…
  • I believe everybody in a nursing home gets the same food -- food is not divided up by who pays the bill (government assistance pays for 3 out of 5 Americans in a nursing home, then long term care insurance and personal savings). I had asked if since Medicaid, the program for the poor, pays for 3 of every 5 Americans in a…
  • I would say 3-4 days for most of those foods. If in doubt, throw it out. I had food poisoning once in my life and nothing is worth going through that hell again.
  • Medicaid, the program for the poor in the United States, pays for 3 out of every 5 people in a nursing home. What about their food? Take away the chocolate cake and potato chips for grannies on Medicaid?
  • I got my first flu shot of my life last year. I refused to get them for years because when I was a kid, my mother got a flu shot, had a reaction, and was ill for several months. What exactly caused her reaction? I don't know. She was also allergic to penicillin and other things. It scared me. I also didn't worry about the…
  • Here are a couple of useful websites: https://www.choosemyplate.gov/ https://choosemyplate-prod.azureedge.net/sites/default/files/myplate/checklists/MyPlateDailyChecklist_1600cals_Age14plus.pdf Click on your age and calorie bracket for more details. This is an interesting website. It gives very detailed nutrition info.…
  • Log everything and consider the logging a success. Eat a normal dinner and do the best you can tomorrow.
  • Ha ha, well done, a great success!!
  • I never binged, but I went over my calories a few times at a restaurant.
  • I wouldn't run through the bowling alley again. The area sounds too remote. Run on the main street even if it's longer. These guys are probably just annoying, but you never know.
  • Why 500 ml a day? Or 4 bottles of 500 ml water? That would be deadly. I drink about 5 bottles of 16.9 ml water in a day. That comes out to be about 84.5 ml water in a day. If I drank 500 ml of water in a day, that would be almost 30 bottles of my 16.9 ml containers. You're asking people to drink 500 x 4 = 2000 ml in a day?…
  • http://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/vitamin-a/safety/hrb-20060201 Here's some info about Vitamin A safety. Do you need the multivitamin? If you are getting enough vitamins from food, perhaps stop taking the multivitamin -- or take a targeted vitamin instead of a multi.
  • If it's a problem to take off work to go to the doctor, most pharmacies give flu shots, at least where I live (east coast USA). The pharmacy gives shots as long as they are open, which includes weekends. Some communities organize additional places for shots, like at soup kitchens where they are free for the poor.
  • You could always ask your doctor's office to weigh you and then compare the numbers. The bottom line is you've put in the work, have lost the weight, and are doing great.
  • congrats, well done!
  • I found some inexpensive sleeveless dresses at Walmart. They have attractive prints and are made of fabric that almost reminds me of swimsuit material -- it dries quickly. They're way too big for me now, but I love them and refuse to get rid of them. I wear them with a t-shirt underneath.
  • I went to Walmart and bought a couple of cheap jeans. I also bought a few inexpensive pairs of black pants I can wear to work.
  • Good luck. You sound like a kind friend. Keep an eye on her and encourage her to see a doctor/psych if things get more out of control.
  • I put USDA by my food searches because it tends to come up with the most accurate entries and often has the smaller details like the sodium content. For example, there's a USDA entry I use for Lentils, Mature Seeds Usda - Cooked, Boiled, Without Salt. I'm sure there's one for lentils dried USDA. Also, if you buy these…
  • If you're eating the food in the dining hall, limit high calorie items like creamy salad dressings, French fries, desserts, etc. Choose food that will fill you up on fewer calories, like vegetables and bottled water. Eat regular meals with decent food so you don't grab the donuts and other high calorie snacks that a lot of…
  • I'm also drinking water 99 percent of the time. My only other drinks are an herb tea and Silk Protein Nutmilk. I wasn't addicted to sugary soft drinks, but used to drink a lot of coffee -- until I ended up in the emergency room from the caffeine. Good luck with the water. I think drinking water is an investment in our…
