  • I went back to college. I meal prep but only make simple food (the food police aren't looking over my shoulder). It doesn't take much time once you find several things you are willing to eat. My staples since I don't have time to cook: - Make salads to last about 3 days. Takes about 10 minutes. It would take longer than…
  • I joined a gym for the first time over a year ago. I have health problems, and while I love walking/hiking/jogging outside, we have rough weather -- snow, ice and high humidity. I can go to the gym year round no matter what's happening outside. I can't say I love going, but it's essential and one of the best things I've…
  • I'm in maintenance. My weight usually fluctuates 1-3 lbs from day to day. If it stays up then I record it. For me, weight creep starts to become a problem when I don't weigh, don't log, and don't record food. People are different, though. You could always try both options. Don't record it, but if you start to feel anxious…
  • I agree, Mexican restaurants have plenty of options. Ask them to hold the cheese and sour cream. Asian restaurants -- Chinese/Japanese/Vietnamese/Thai etc. also have plenty of choices. Usually American restaurants will only have a veggie burger or some kind of pasta dish (ask them to hold the cheese).
  • I eat at a Chinese buffet several times a month. This place doesn't have a menu with calories online. I look up similar items in the MFP database and guess the quantities. Sometimes I use the quick calories for the whole meal (I guess high).
  • Laughed at this one. I ate a banana this morning so I guess my whole day is off.
  • I understand what your doctor was saying, but she also isn't doing her job. My doctor didn't suggest I lose weight, but he said I was at high risk of a heart attack or stroke and wanted to put me on meds for high cholesterol and high blood pressure. That woke me up fast. I lost the weight. Then he piled on the praise. He's…
  • I agree with this. Your post says you don't record everything and your diary isn't accurate. Record everything you eat and drink. If you don't have a scale, buy an inexpensive one (you can find them on Amazon and other places). Weigh and measure. Weight loss is all about calories, not the type of food. You say you are…
  • Wonderful news! Congrats for losing the weight and making your health a priority. :)
  • Choose a career you love and to heck with what your parents want you to do
  • Three things helped me to keep the weight off this time. My doctor said my cholesterol was so high I was at risk of a heart attack or stroke. He also talked about putting me on high blood pressure meds. That conversation woke me up fast. I'm aware of the "I don't care" attitude that led to weight creep in the past -- when…
  • The freecycle network is a worldwide site where people give stuff away or exchange it. https://www.freecycle.org/ Also Craigslist is another resource.
  • Agreed, and MFP people in the Caribbean, too.
  • You look wonderful and also about 20 years younger! Congrats!!
  • Huh? So men don't have hormones that are "delicately balanced" but us ladies do? Not buying this one. Women can fast just as well as men. You made some other good comments but this doesn't fly. A lot of good suggestions. I like the one about suggesting places with light/healthy meal options. Many places have online menus…
  • I agree, find what balance? You are two different people. Support each other in life but realize your skin ends with you. Being a couple does not mean you have to do everything together including food and health problems. He's a separate person. Let him be him and you be you. Good luck with your health journey.
  • Can you find time to join something? If you live in the USA, the YWCA has all kinds of classes for kids that I see moms attending too (you could look at a local website for more info). You might also look for local volunteer activities where you can take kids along.
  • Check the color of your urine. If it's clear or almost clear, then you're drinking/taking in too much fluid. Ask your doctor to check you for a urinary tract infection if you're worried.
  • One way is to stop buying them and stop keeping them at home. Or allow yourself to have one bar once a week, outside the house -- don't buy a lot to take home. We all need treats. Find some other treat that you enjoy but you can control your eating. Meal prep if you don't have have time to cook. Take time out on a less…
  • Most herb tea. It tastes like lawn grass. (To my sorrow, I've developed a caffeine allergy, so I'm working through the herb teas)
  • Just a note to say that if you decide to take a B12 supplement, you might read the article below. According to a study, large doses of B12 and B6 dramatically increased cancer risk. If you buy a supplement, read the label and don't buy a dose that's many thousands beyond the daily requirement, which is common with some…
  • What a great smile. You look wonderful All that logging shows a real dedication to a better life
  • There are lots of plant milks. Most come unflavored and in flavors like chocolate and vanilla. Many have as much calcium and vitamin D as dairy milk. Cashew (creamier than almond) Almond: low calorie Protein Nutmilk (I like Silk brand): has 130 calories and 10 grams of protein per cup Soymilk: has good protein but soy is…

  • You need to supplement B12 if you have a vegan diet with no animal products. If you eat a vegetarian diet and include eggs and dairy, then you don't need extra B12.
  • "Weird" was a polite way of putting it. Nosy hits the mark. The woman was hinting around to find out if I was seriously ill and offended me. She doesn't know me well. I lost about 40 pounds. I don't know how dramatic that was over 6 months. I was technically obese before I lost the weight, but not morbidly obese. I would…
  • So many people are criticizing the OP without reading her comments. She has a right to her feelings. She clearly said this: "I didn't buy into many things in the documentary. It was the animals that bothered me. BTW, I am from the hog plant area in North Carolina so I grew up smelling pigs and watching chickens head to the…
