  • I plateau every 6-8 weeks for 1-2 weeks, then the needle moves again. It is possible this happens because I get sloppy with my diet, and the lack of movement causes me to re-focus.
  • I use Strava for my activities, and after 3 mos of close monitoring I have figured out that for me it calculates "double" the ACTUAL calories burned. So FOR ME, in order to be accurate, I eat back "half" of the calories it says I expended during the exercise. Before I figured this out, I was gaining weight on exercise…
  • the 300g of carbs is killing you. Lower the carbs and raise the fat and protein. Eat higher volume low calorie foods. When it's important enough to you, you will be able to overcome this issue. When I fought this issue I just introduced cheese and nuts. A handful (weighed, of course) when I'm getting hungry. Ice water too.…
  • your workout buddy doesn't have to be your wife. If there's someone relying on you to be there, it's much easier to get up and be there. Same for them. I'd find someone to work out with, and crack the whip on each other!

  • "Weight" doesn't tell the whole story. If you are building muscle and losing fat, while gaining weight, that's not a bad thing at all! A lot of health food stores have a body composition machine, using that could give you a bench mark to compare future measurements to. This lets you know if what you are doing is getting…
  • Fruit is a weakness for me. It is "healthy" but you have to understand that fruit is very calorie dense. It's easy to get too many calories eating fruit. Veggies that's not going to happen easily at all.
  • just be consistent. First thing in the morning will likely result in the most consistent #s.
  • Fasted exercise (exercising on no food) is extremely exhausting to the central nervous system. The brain has to fire harder to get the same output, compared to when you work out with food in your tummy. I found this out the hard way, FWIW. Talk about power naps? LOL
  • have you guys ever seen competitive table tennis? Most folks think badminton is also a leisurely activity.... It is not!
  • My experience is that any benefits (strength, muscle building, toning) you get weight training are wiped if you do cardio the same day. It works much better if you don't do both on the same day, just split them up a day apart. I suspect that doing both the same day "confuses" the body, and it doesn't know whether to get…
  • I have a Tanita that I've been very happy with. It calculates BF based on age/gender/height/weight, and measures within 1% of professional measuring (with the expensive machines). Mine reads 1% higher than the expensive ones, which is ok, since I just use it as a bench mark to track progress or regression.
  • Protein supplements can do this, so you have to be careful you don't over-use them. Try increasing the intake of some oils (olive oil, etc) on your greens, this may solve the problem. I take psyllium every couple days mixed with water to keep things moving, it's very effective. This may be TMI, but you will soon figure out…
  • if I want to indulge I first do a big bike ride or something (logging calorie loss), and then I have that "banked" to treat myself (not going over). Do the work first, then you can reward. This keeps me honest and on track for my goals.
  • Most "Americans" have a skewed reality of a healthy image. There are so many overweight folks running around it has become "the new normal". Many of these comments are also to excuse the image of the commenter (make them feel better about their own body image). Keep chugging along, just know the comments from these folks…
