  • The equipment is there for all paying members to use, that miserable old crone was the one with the problem. Just don't tie up my power rack doing 50 lb squats.
  • Good going ! I just stopped worrying about my weight yesterday. After watching those Height/Weight charts for several years, It dawned on me. I'm not overweight, I'm too short. I should be 11 feet tall.
  • Does the claim require that the onions be eaten raw? If not, grilling them allows you to put them on top of just about any main course item. Try caramelising 2 medium onions with some fresh garlic and making a soup with a can of vegetable broth and a palm full of barley and a dash of red pepper flakes.
  • I am a 67 year old recovering power lifter who is transitioning to become a cyclist. At the start of that endeavour I weighed in at over 250 Lb and was too heavy to ride my bike without voiding its warranty. Having lost over 30 Lb of muscle and fat I ride every day this cursed tropical weather permits. Today I look more…
  • Set achievable goals for yourself with a realistic time line. Develop an equally achievable fitness/diet program and stick to it. Then, once you finish for the day, get on with your daily routine remembering "All you can do is all you can do" so just keep going.
  • Last year (2016) I reviewed some research that concluded muscle protein synthesis was maximised on only 40g of protein daily, provided 4 grams of leucine were included in the diet. While the other 160g would be harmless it is also expensive. I suspect the figure of 200g is usually recommended because that dosage would…
  • At 66 I stopped power lifting with its big eating & big lifting because I wanted to stop the sore joints after every workout, Soon I started to cycle & eat vegetarian but kept taking the meds like some kind of a machine without thinking. When I lost enough muscle and fat to weigh 220, I would get dizzy every time I took…
  • Anyone out there retired and an avid road cyclist or into fitness and exercise?
  • Any opinions on the best Irish Whiskey for the money?
  • I have been riding at a local county park, newly paved and totally flat. 7 times around is 100 Km Although the park has a reputation for being haunted, except for one incident, I have only seen deer, hogs, alligators and wild turkeys.
  • I hate indoor trainers but the weather here can get so foul that I may be persuaded to spend a couple of hours on one. Even with an entire winter season training on these devices you never seem to gain ground or even maintain seasonal levels. Never lost an ounce of fat or gained a VO2 point in my living room.
  • After 15 years of power lifting I was at or around 250 lbs with high BP & cholesterol. This year I lost almost 50 pounds of fat by lifting moderate weight for 4 sets of 15 on a split routine of 4 days per week. I'm still at 220 lbs but want to loose another 10. The plan is to increase cardio and reduce my protein intake to…

  • Be careful with Protein Powders, some contain fillers with little or no value to an athlete, the practice is called Amino Spiking. There was a class action suit about this practice but I don't know what became of it. Meanwhile there is a list of come common brands and their % protein content on the web. A web search of…
  • There has been a class action suit against some manufacturers for "Amino Spiking" where cheap substances, like gelatin, are added to the powder to maximise profits. Some protein powders are less than 16% useful protein.
  • Just got back from riding a bike path here in Florida that is supposed to be haunted, no spooks today just gopher tortoises, gators and gnats. Lots of gnats. I'm riding a Merckx - I think it's called an EM5, not a new one but really light. I'm not worried about the frame so much, since it's aluminium, it's the carbon fork…
  • Thanks TimF, I agree about Walmart bike, it's found a new home. My friend refused to fight the bike shop over his broken frame and accepted a 20% discount on another. I bought a Merckyx and have had no issues with it.
  • Thanks, makes me feel better about carbon. Still avoiding bumps in the road though. got a bit spooked when a buddy & I both a little over 250 rode on new carbon bikes, second day out buddy broke his frame. The Wrench at the bike shop said we were too heavy for carbon so I bought a second steel Walmart special to ride until…
