Yeah, there are always going to be people who decide that their way is the best way and everyone else is just wasting their time. My brother-in-law is one of those runners who won't lift weights because he doesn't want to get "bulky". Also, got to love the subtle sexism of "cardio bunny"! I haven't seen that attitude much…

I think that 6-10 miles is my favorite distance because it hits that sweet spot of letting me explore the city a bit but still be home for brunch. And I also love the social aspect of races - I describe them to my nerd friends as "running conventions" and that's just about right.

Aww, I definitely felt like that last lady at my half last month!

A few thoughts on that StarTrib article from @7lenny7 : first, this quote really spoke to me as a “younger person” - “Twenty years ago, you ran a marathon. But [baby] boomers are aging out and younger people have so many choices — not only shorter, more manageable races, but they’re going to the gym, they’re doing CrossFit…

Hello again, fellow runners that need some nutritional accountability! I've been neglecting my weight goals in favor of other goals the last several months, primarily the struggles with various aches and pains limiting my running since spring, and a moderate flare-up of anxiety mid-summer. I've largely managed to maintain…

I’m on the board for October with a short run to the gym on Tuesday in the pouring rain (not going to lie, it was a lot of fun). I’m planning on doing the same tomorrow, then it’s race weekend! @zeesparrow: I highly recommend trying arm sleeves if you haven’t already (I have three pairs, including these) - they’re much…

Welcome to October! I’m not on the running board yet, but I did sign up for three more races! I was already planning on doing the Turkey Trot 10K and the Reindeer Run 10K, then I got an email that reminded me that there’s also a Halloween race in the same series and doing all three gets you a special medal holder. Since I…

Well, my plan was to end off September with a 9.4 mile run this morning, but yesterday afternoon I was feeling antsy, so my husband suggest I go on my long run then and we go out to dinner afterwards, so that's what I did! The route I'd planned is one I have only run once, and that was last year. Theoretically it should…

Borrowing from @Mobycarp, my theoretical goal for October is 70 miles, but my real goal is to stay healthy.

Yeah, he knows that bit - this is his third in five years, so its not a fear-of-the-unknown issue. He’s going to have to do this every year or two for the rest of his life, and really had a hard time with the prep the last couple of times.

I slept in a few times this week and ended up missing a run, but at least partially made it up with back-to-back runs to the gym yesterday and today. Today I ran the direct route (1.62 miles) but yesterday I took a longer route around the back of one of the lakes for 3.47 miles. Great workouts at the gym both days, too.…

Welcome, and way to get back in it!

Beautiful early fall weather today. Unfortunately, I slept in and have a big assignment due today and people coming over this evening, so I'm not sure a run is going to happen. I'm going to try and work outside for a while, at least. Welcome! That sounds like a good place to start for sure. I've never done an obstacle…

@shanaber: All the best to you and Hobbes. *hugs*

Yesterday I ran 3.47 miles around my home lake. It wasn’t an easy run - my endurance was low after a couple of weeks without running, being sick, and still smoking - but it was a good one. And since nothing hurt yesterday or this morning, and the weather today was absolutely wonderful for running after a week of muggy…

Ug, I have not have that over-taxed feeling, but I have had to deal with insomnia and a disruptive sleep partner - in my case, snoring. I've started moving to our guest bedroom when I know that I really need not to be woken up, or asking my husband to sleep there if he's up much later than me so he doesn't wake me up when…

Last week was a pretty good week, but not one that included much running, unfortunately. The pain in the ball of my right foot continued through the week so I canceled my two planned runs, although I did make it to two strength classes. On Saturday I took a nice long walk with a good friend and one of her two adorable…

Bleh, I woke up early for a run but have been having pain in the ball of my foot (metatarsalgia) when I walk around the house barefoot - putting on slippers made it go away yesterday but it feels worse today. Mayo’s website says “you might develop it if you participate in activities that involve running and jumping.”…

Also, so sorry to hear about that theft, @rheddmobile. That really sucks.

Yesterday I got to run 1.67 miles. I’d planned more, but found out just before I was going to leave that I’d left my good shoes in the trunk of the car, which my husband had taken to work. I decided to run in my old shoes, which I’ve been using exclusively for walking since early this spring. Of course now I have no idea…

I’ve been checking in all morning - so far everyone seems okay. So scary though!
-
No worries - my feelings weren't hurt. Although I did put "RACE REPORT" in all caps before the tag. ;)

Sounds great! I've never run that particular trail but will plan on heading up there sometime in the next couple of weeks to scout it out.
-
You can do it! I went into this one just wanting to finish, not expecting a PR, and it felt great crossing that finish line. I think it's easy to lose track of the fact that finishing a half is a HUGE accomplishment when it feels like I'm surrounded by stronger runners (900 or so in the case of this particular race!). I…

Thanks everyone! My legs are feeling a lot better this morning, just a little lingering quad stiffness. It felt good to write all that out - it was quite an experience. I'd been planning on going to the gym this morning but then my husband managed to break our shower, which wouldn't have been too bad since we have two…

I survived my first half marathon of 2019! It was a bit of a bear, but I made it. 36 hours later I'm still in a bit of a post-race daze, but I'll try and get a real race report up in the next day or two. Rest day today for sure. Strength training tomorrow but I'll likely take it easy.

Gooooooooood morning, Sioux Falls!

Lol.

Oh boy, not awake yet.
