Tracking goals by meal
I've been trying to set up daily goals by meal, and have been running into the problem that every time I change a day's overall calorie goal it resets the meal goals to a default split and I have to reenter those as well. Does anyone know how to get around this?

I'm not going to meet my New Year's goal, and that's okay
Based on my rate of loss through the first part of the year, I set a "stretch goal" to be out of the obese BMI by the end of 2017. Well, we've got 13 days left and it's not looking likely I'm afraid, but that's okay! I needed to hit 164 to be considered overweight and my most recent low is 168.2. I suppose a whoosh is…

Running as a Tourist
I'm going to be headed out of town for a few days and am really excited about the idea of running in a new place. I don't have any real goals here other than liking the idea of running in a new place. Any tips? I'll be in Portland and Vancouver so I'm not too worried about weather or crime, but I've never run anywhere that…

Back on the running train and looking for advice
I started running last summer/fall and loved it right away - I live with anxiety and find running outdoors really clears my head in a way I never thought possible. Anyhow, I’m looking for advice on how to get back into it responsibly, so here’s my background in a nutshell: I started last August with a C25K-ish run/walk…

Trap/hex bar deadlift in beginner program
I've been doing the A Workout Routine beginner program at home with adjustable dumbbells for the past five weeks. I'm about to max out my dumbells on the deadlift and will max out on goblet squats shortly after. My goal is to begin barbell training (leaning toward SL 5 x 5) in June when finances loosen up and I can afford…

Frequently Asked Questions about the Apple Watch 3
Did you just acquire or are you considering acquiring an Apple Watch, and want to know how it works with MyFitnessPal? You could start a new thread, or you could read the following, because I was real bored at work today, and idle hands are the devil's playthings. I got my watch shortly after release in late September 2017…

Substitute Vertical Pull Exercise
At the beginning of March I started A Workout Routine's beginner's workout at home using adjustable dumbbells. I'm really enjoying myself and am itching to move to the barbell when I have the funds in June, but in the meantime, I am running into one issue I could use some advice on. The B workout is deadlifts, pull-ups,…

The Real Skinny on Fat
Hey all, my stepmom (who I haven’t seen since I started losing weight) just sent me a message recommending a documentary called “The Real Skinny on Fat.” I assume it’s this: http://www.therealskinnyonfat.com/optin/. Have any of you more science-types heard anything good, bad, or ugly about this? It’s setting off my woo…

February sort of stank, but that's okay
Towards the end of 2017, I posted a thread talking about how I wasn't going to hit one of my goals for the year but that was okay. A lot of people seemed to relate to that sentiment, which was awesome! At the risk of looking like I'm just bad at the CICO game, this post is to acknowledge that not only did I not meet my…

Recommendations needed for sweet sources of protein
I’m looking to add maybe 20-40 grams of protein to my diet in the form of an end-of-the-day sweet-tooth-satisfying snack, ideally around 100-200 calories total. There are a lot of options out there, so any opinions on pre-made products would be awesome. Making my own is not on the table for now, unfortunately. Thanks!

Has anyone trained themselves to fidgit?
I've always been a fidgeter, and perhaps at least partially related, never struggled with my weight until some life changes a few years ago. I made some efforts to break myself of the habit as an adult, but have allowed it to come back since learning about NEAT. I was recently listening to a Lyle McDonald podcast that…

Temporary Maintenance Thread!
I've been lurking around these parts for a while, being envious and admiring of the fine folks who've hit their goals or found a happy spot or are just taking a breather. And then last night, I set my account to maintenance for the first time - so many calories! Alas, it's only temporary - I still have about 30 lbs to go…

Stretches for indoor bike soreness?
With all the ice on the sidewalks where I had been running, I’ve been using my stationary bike a lot more often recently. The problem I’m running into is that my legs, in particular my thighs, get sore really quickly when I’m pedaling, making it hard to actually get a decent workout in even at the lowest resistance…

Basic fitness minimums?
When it comes to weight loss, I'm all about the philosophy of "whoever eats the most and loses weight, wins!" I feel pretty good about how that's going (37 lbs down, 36 lbs to go!), so the last couple of months have started focusing on fitness. I'm trying to find a basic routine that meets that same "least amount of…

Do I need a rest day if I'm only a slow beginner runner?
After two months of alternating jogging and walking, I'm up to a mile jog every morning. I'm not going quickly at all, usually not faster than 15 minutes a mile (including breaks while my dogs do their business, although I do try and jog in place as much as possible). I've started looking into beginning runner tips, and…

Where are you imprecise with your measurements?
There are lots of posts about how to measure portions accurately, but I'm curious where people who are successfully losing weight fudge their counting and why. Personally, I rarely weigh pre-packaged single-serving foods - I figure close enough is good enough, and they don't make up enough of my diet to throw off my…

What are your go-to "small meals"?
Over the last few months I've more or less accidentally fallen into the six-small-meals pattern of eating. I promise I don't believe any of the woo, it's just the best way I've found I keep satiated throughout the day. I'm really curious to hear from people who eat in multiple smaller chunks how you do it. I hear people…

Does anyone have a formula to project weight loss?
MFP appeals to me because I'm a numbers nut, but unfortunately, I'm only a talented novice when it comes to spreadsheets. I've been trying to create a formula to predict my weight loss going forward, and I thought I had it about right, but when I applied it to my last seven months of tracking it was a little *too*…

Beginning strength training - do circuit classes count?
I'm hoping to start easing my way into some strength training soon, but I'm really new to this so could use some guidance. A gym near my house has a circuit training class that I could probably do once a week that they say is "muscle sculpt" (I have no idea what that means) - would this kind of thing be a good start? I've…

Adventures in totally botching calorie counting: Velveeta shells and cheese
ETA: well, clearly the moral of this story is actually that a post-graduate degree and above average reading skills will still lead you astray when reading nutritional information on boxes. I feel rather silly, but I'll leave this here as an additional cautionary tale. And I think I'll just avoid pasta for a while.…

Logging help: deli chicken salad
A local grocery store has a great chicken salad with celery, grapes and cashews (light on the last two). There's an entry for that store's product stating 100 kcal for 100 g, but this seem low given how filling it is, plus I don't trust the round numbers. I've never made chicken salad myself and there seems to be a huge…

New to boards, but not new to MFP
I'm checking out this whole "community support" idea, so I suppose an introduction is in order. I gained about 70 lbs over the last seven years due to mental health issues and falling into some bad habits. A little more than a year ago I got a paid MFP account and started tracking calories and my weight, but not making…
