Hello runners and walkers and all and sundry! It has been almost a month since my last confession post - I’ve missed you all, but not as much as I’ve missed running! I was starting to get worried that I was going to log another month without running, but then a miracle happened - I rolled out of bed this morning to walk my…

I have found that with something solid to hold onto (like a windowsill or bed frame) I can still get a good stretch without getting my knees to the ground.

Hi runners (and walkers, and swimmers, and lifters, and hopers, etc etc)! Here's a really long update that doesn't actually involve any running, but is pretty much positive anyhow. According to my usually extremely detailed records, the last time I posted was March 28th, when I’d decided to take a leave of absence from…

Hey all, I know this is a high-stress time for everyone, so virtual hugs all around. I am hoping to get a run in today - I haven’t been out since Tuesday, but I made a big decision yesterday that I’m hoping will help. Putting COVID and mental health discussion in spoilers without any judgment on what anyone else wants to…

I think I would have the cider, and then I would take the “decrease to sustainable and hope for a fall race” option. I’m an introvert with social anxiety but I absolutely love the race atmosphere and think it makes a big difference when going for speed or distance PRs.
-
For sure! Also, sorry I blew you off without saying anything last weekend - I’ve been going in and out of a pretty bad head space recently and was probably hiding in bed.
-
Big hugs @Avidkeo - and great idea, @emmamcgarity! When I went to the grocery store this morning they were collecting donations for people who need help buying groceries, so I chipped in. I continue to be immensely grateful that my husband and my income is not currently being effected and is reasonably unlikely to be…

@LoveyChar: I don’t want to get into a whole thing here, but I think you might benefit from reading a bit more about how diseases like this spread. I’m not staying home to keep myself healthy - I’m doing it to help, in my very, very small way, to keep everyone else healthy, and to try and remove as much burden from the…

Minnesota largely shut down yesterday - take out and delivery only at restaurants, all “public accommodations” are closed (a local paper defined this as anywhere you go to spend money and have fun with other people), k-12 schools close tomorrow, government services (including the courts) are at least rolling back services.…

My right shin and knee are a little twingy today so I'm going to skip my run, but my gym posted today's workout on Facebook so I'm going to head down to the basement as soon as I finish my lunch and work out in a responsible, socially distant way. Elbow bump! I'd initially planned to go in since there's usually only a…

Great timing on the shoes, but sorry about the hip pain. It sounds like you need to make a note to yourself for the next time you're thinking about adding a sixth day. That or find an off-season cross-training activity!

Had a hard time getting out of bed this AM but managed it eventually, and decided to sacrifice another couple of hours of sick time so I could go for a run this afternoon.* The run was tough - hello shin splints my good friend - but I'm definitely feeling the afterglow right now. Yay! There was a confirmed case of the…

I'm thinking about running the race on my own - same day/time/course. Would you be interested?

I just re-read my last post (from March 8) and man does it seem like more than a week has passed since then! So here’s how my week went: Monday: Intake for my new therapy program. I walked home in anticipation of wanting to make this a new running route - 2.2 miles, about half lakeshore, not bad after a really gnarly…

Today I got to run 3.36 miles around the cemetery by my house, with a couple of stretches along lakes number 1 and 2. My running friend canceled due to “epic child meltdowns” so I went on my own and it was absolutely beautiful. Way too many people for the last stretch along the lakeshore, but I can’t be mad at people…

Hey look, it’s March already! As I mentioned one of the last times I posted, I lost a lot of time in February to anxiety and food poisoning. So it goes. I managed to just barely log more running hours in February than January thanks to a lovely 5k-ish while visiting Madison last weekend, but was down on lifting, moderate…

I was waffling on gym vs no gym yesterday, and then I remembered that I have a perfectly well-stocked home gym in my basement that I haven't used for a year, so I did a 20 minute Fitness Blender upper body workout and then hopped on the exercise bike for 15 minutes. BOOM! It felt amazing, and I'm feeling much more…

I finally caught up! Well, sort of - I started reading again on page 40, so if you posted before the 18th, I offer hugs, condolences, and congratulations as appropriate. It has been 11 days since my last run, which was my first run in seven days. Suffice it to say, this will not be the month I return to the 50 mile club. I…

RACE REPORT!!!!! Yesterday was my first race since September, which is a little bonkers. I’d signed up for three races in the fall that I blew off mainly for mental health reasons, then didn’t sign up for a planned January race due to illness. I’d convinced my weekend running buddy (P) to sign up for yesterday’s 5k,…

I really, really empathize with this. Most of the last year has been wanting to get back to half marathon shape but being stuck struggling with the 5K.
-
Oh hey, missed this earlier! I think I'd noticed a bit ago that you were doing those two as well - want to try and meet up for a MFP photoshoot before one of them? Are you doing the Hot Dash 5k or 10 mile? I really hope I wasn't being overly optimistic when I signed up for the 10 mile...

Wooden footbridges are deadly slippery even when everything else is fairly solid - I'm glad there aren't many around me!

3.99 miles yesterday afternoon, woo! That’s the longest I’ve ran since getting sick at the beginning of January, so it feels like a pretty good accomplishment, even if it was a bit tough at times and I had to take a few walk breaks. Also, the weather and road conditions were a bit awful - not too cold in the high 20s, but…

Good morning, runners! It has been 15 days since my last confession post, and I have in no way kept up with your posts during that time. My profound apologies! I’ve abandoned the January thread but will try and catch up on February at least. When last I posted I had spent two weeks in bed due to The Crud and was hoping to…

Hi there, sickos! I see I’m not the only one who’s been hit by the plague/gunk/crud the last couple of weeks. I hope everyone is recovering, or is able to take the time they need to rest so they recover more quickly. I’ve been off the running train for two weeks and am trying not to let that get me too down in the dumps.…

Hello runners! I’ve been lurking but still running, so congratulations, condolences, and hugs where appropriate (especially @katharmonic - I hope your gym friend is okay!). December wrapped up a mixed second year of running. On paper, my biggest accomplishment was probably my sub-30 5k in March, of which I remain quite…

Ran a fairly easy 1.58 miles to the gym this morning. It was around 20F out, which felt amazing after the single digits this weekend and negatives last week. My workout at the gym felt really good too - it felt like I was pushing myself and could see progress from the last couple of weeks. My primary complaint about the…

I absolutely think everyone needs to be aware of their surroundings while running (primarily to avoid being hit by cars, which is a real danger in most of the places where we live), but these kind of abduction situations are incredibly rare in most places, and almost always involve someone the victim already knows.…

I didn’t hit all my fitness goals last week, but it was definitely a good return to form after a couple of weeks off. I ran 11.46 miles total, up from 4.12 the week before and 0 the week before that. My runs consisted of two trips to the gym, one back from the gym (all along the most direct route, as there is a LOT of ice…

Two runs so far this week, or three depending on how you count it: I ran both to AND from the gym on Tuesday (coldest runs of the season so far at -4F!), then just to the gym yesterday since it was well after dark when I was heading home and also I was pretty tired by then. Both gym sessions were great, but it was…
