Yeah, totally normal. Trendweight and my body fat scales have kept me sane. My water weight varies by a kilo or more day to day, especially if you've started exercising where your weight will be all over the place as your body adapts. Fat percentage as measured by my BF scales seems a far more dependable yardstick than…

Cheers, I hadn't considered it like that. I guess I'm just sick of seeing the same readings on the scales each morning, without really taking credit for the changes that ARE happening. I'll keep stepping on the scales and keep plugging away.

Cheers for the reply. I'd love to get to my 'ideal weight' but that's right down at 65 kg or so! I'm taking it 5 kg at a time, but I do have a lot to lose. I haven't been using my food diary, maybe that's where I'm going wrong. I cook all my dinners from scratch so find it a bit exhausting to log calories, but if I don't…

The Aria body fat measurements are only useful for trending. If you use them at the same point of the day every time they can be quite consistent, but hydration or using when damp post-shower etc can throw your conductivity way out. I use them every morning as soon as I get out of bed, and I get nice consistent trends.

I had you as a friend from another thread, I've only just seen this! I'm just starting out cycling as well and am slowly getting over the humiliation of being made to look stationary by people 20 or 30 years my senior on old Raleighs! 300 miles a month is good going, well done for keeping it up despite the setbacks.

I've been eating 1,500 on sedentary days, and eating back my exercise calories. I've been losing weight a bit faster than I'd planned (~0.75kg a week, with a plan of 0.5kg), which sounds great, but I want to give my body a chance to adapt to the cycling I've started doing so have increased it to 1,700 from today.

Congratulations! Great transformation, you look like a new man. Remember all the hard work that got you there and be proud.

Two weeks in, and seeing good progress on the scales after an initial plateau. I put that down to water retention after starting cycling. My weight readings have been fairly erratic, but my body fat percentage has seen a much more consistent downward trend. Onwards and downwards! I'll just do a monthly update from now on,…

Thanks Lynda. We cook from scratch pretty much every night, so scales are mandatory in our house! The main thing I'm getting used to is logging calories - it's amazing how quick they add up :o
