  • @chicbuc really you were able to sleep at the airport? Wow, I wish I had that kind of ability. I am still working on sleeping in my own bed. AF life continues. Drinking canned club soda (seems to have the strongest fizz level) mixed with pure lemon juice. No calories and my husband has switched over to this also, liking it…
  • 131/2025 miles. I am getting more miles in by lowering the resistance and instead focusing on keeping my heart rate over 100 so at least I get sweating. I can squeeze 15 mi out of an hour and 3 min, so will go and do 20mi now. I can make the time.
  • @MissMay I want to be just like you when I grow up, a rarely drinker! Whether I can do it will be the true test when I have my first transatlantic trip to Spain to visit relatives. I'll have all my triggers in my face - the wine, the family argument(s), the hugs and kisses followed by "what happened to you, you got so fat"…
  • Sending a virtual HUG to All of you! Just a random show of appreciation. Nobody knows this but you guys not even my husband- I ditched my gym class today to go to a medspa appt. and get whatever cellulite and fat blasting special of the month and let them have at it. Secret!! @tmbg1 these days all I want to do is binge eat…
  • 106/2025 miles. Got in 3 more rides since my last post! I would do much better to watch a whole movie since that would make the time fly and I'd go longer.
  • Taxes are done. Oh what fun yesterday afternoon was when I came home and found my husband surrounded by a sea of paper, 2 Coors beers both half empty on his desk and the urgency to finish our taxes NOW. And it was only noon. It was like a tax attack. That was my afternoon joy, spreadsheets and receipts and paper…
  • 68/2025 miles. Realizing how much of a weekend exerciser I am then by midweek it's a dead halt. You guys inspire me though! Putting a note on the fridge called "cycle and watch videos". I do enjoy that and get lost watching travel videos, I just have to DO IT!
  • @tobinross that's a pretty good video and happy you are seeing success. A better life is what it's all about. @MissMay I am curious, what did you wind up drinking? @Stepawayfromthetable congrats on your promotion and your AF day collection! On a roll! @SurferGirl1982 your AF day one is here! You're way more powerful than…
  • Hope everyone had fun yesterday. I FINALLY had a 3 lb. weight loss after going hungry for weeks on end so I was feeling like WOO-HOO my body is finally working again. I really feel and look 10 lbs. lighter but the scale only says 3 came off. Oh well I will take it. So we went out to Mexican restaurant happy hour before the…
  • I never heard of a donut burger! Thank you all for supportive words, you have no idea how helpful you all are to keeping me going. @NonnieDoiron congrats on that 11 day streak! It's exciting to get a new job. Hopefully the people are really cool. Cool people is my #1 job requirement, above money. @SurferGirl I hope your…
  • For Superbowl, I drank diet coke with lots of lemon. No dessert, just amazing chicken wings and junk food. Oh, is that why I have put in my 12 weeks of fitness over and over and still not getting anywhere? So this is month "6" AF for me. I found out my husband's jim beam, the one he uses for his cooking, is located in the…
  • 56/2025 miles. Got in some miles past 2 days. RPM class helped. I leave that class completely drenched in sweat. I'll have to get on my home bike later and ramp up my mileage.
  • 5 mo. 8 days AF. It's all one day at a time. Yesterday went downtown for a drinking afternoon with a group of visiting friends. They all had 4 XL size drinks over the span of an afternoon, me 3 XL diet sodas. It's funny to be with tipsy people. I actually didn't think of wine whatsoever and it was all in my face the whole…
  • 33 mi /2025 miles. Sat. I took the day off all exercise. About 10 hours to go until Superbowl feasting begins. That's 10 hours to get a lot of exercise in!
  • Quitting drinking takes daily work and the motivation can come from 3 sources as I see it: external (support groups), going at it alone (reading quit lit, psychology, stop drinking youtube videos, online reading), or medication. One can try one approach or all of them, depending on how much structure and support one wants…
  • 5 mo. + 7 days AF done for Feb. Today going out to lunch with friends (a spot that does not sell wine, so that was an easy one). Superbowl husband is making "bourbon" wings (Weber smoker). https://oklahomajoes.com/recipes/bourbon-smoked-chicken/ We substitute apricot preserves for the apply jelly. I'll make the "easy" side…
  • 29 mi/2025 miles. Long way to go! @wendsg wow how long did it take you to ride 38 miles? A recumbent bike is an option in my future. Goal this week is to make this a daily habit even if it's a short add-on to my other activities.
  • @Born2Run1958 I plan to drink non-alcoholic bev. on Superbowl Sunday. I'm more focused on what to make for dessert that is lowish-calorie. Desserts took on a whole new priority when I stopped drinking. @SurferGirl1982 that sausage recipe we do is cooked in a disposable thick foil plan on a weber charcoal grill. Maybe over…
  • 4 days AF done for Feb. If you notice I go off on a tangent chatting about food it's because I am on a diet and freaking starving. @MissMay I consulted my midwestern chef-husband who said his sauerkraut recipe has green apple slices and yes a can of "cheap" beer but the alcohol burns off, no potatoes in his, and the…
  • I get vegetable fajitas and they primarily have zucchini and button mushrooms (the little ones) sliced in half, the rest is onions with red and green peppers. It's cooked at very high heat and brought to the table sizzling on a cast iron plate where it keeps on charring for a few minutes more. Sometimes they add small…
  • AF 3 days in Feb done. I love sauerkraut conversation. It's such a low calorie food but I manage to change that. I only eat sauerkraut cooked with onions and caraway seeds. Throw in some grilled hot italian sausages (the good ones with no chemicals) cut in half so the sausage juices mix in. Super yum. Welcome newcomers!…
  • 2/1- 0 2/2 - 11.5 miles 2/3 -13.5 miles YTD- 25 mi and 2000 miles to go. I use a Lanos spin bike at home and it measures my distance. I also go to RPM class and totally love it now that I bring my own cushioned gel seat. It was a game changer. I can get my heart rate to 160 in RPM class whereas my home cycle barely makes…
  • Day 2 AF for Feb done. Here come the next 16 waking hours. What will I do with them? Sneaking out of work for an "early lunch" of RPM cycling class. It's very hard. But it gives me the feeling I am in a disco or nightclub. The music is pumping, the room is dark with colored lights, and the screen shows a film of me cycling…
  • Day 1 AF done for Feb. On to day 2. We're capable of way more than we think. Today is hiking day with 2 of my best friends, planning 4 hours minimum. Afterwards, I throw my jeans and heels on and it's out for a date with my husband at our local favorite Mexican restaurant. For dinner, we get the lunch special at 3:30pm and…
  • One huge benefit of going AF and you may hate me for this but this is a very big reason I am doing it: my stress is mostly gone. Yep. It took some months. Life is no way as stressful as it used to be. So, if you want the stress level turned way low, going AF is the way to go. It may not feel like it in the beginning but…
  • Day 1 AF for Feb is here. Beginning of month 6 AF. Here we go! February is one of the easiest months to drink less or drink AF. But is it one of the easiest to make it a no chocolate month? I will try. For those of you who know me, I am now a certified choco-holic. I want to do the whole month without any chocolate candies…
  • Last day of Jan and it shall be AF. @SurferGirl1982 yes there were times in my life where I was a daily drinker especially when I took jobs that involved a ton of stressful hours and travel away from home. I was blessed with the ability to really drink a lot and was good at pacing. I could manage bourbon, tequila and wine…
  • Hello folks, if not too late, I'd like to join this group. I'd have to target about 46 miles a week to catch up. I do RPM class now and have an indoor cycle and a mountain bike. I think I can make it to 2025 miles.
  • @LowTechForever good thing you got right back up on the AF bus! Folks, for Feb., I will posting only on the Less Alcohol group. Trying to cut down on the number of groups I am in, just because of limited time these days. Good luck to you all and keep going!
  • I'm in for Feb! Goal is AF for the month. And hopefully get some great new Superbowl party food and NA drink ideas from this team. Wow has this group really been going strong 8 YEARS??? Amazing! @MissMay THANK YOU!
