  • Here's an updated progress pic. :)
  • The after photos were from May 1. I've lost another 6 lbs for a total of 30 so far, about halfway to my goal.
  • I just bought Enlightened this week, and it's good! I got the mint chocolate chip, and there was sea salt caramel at Kroger as well (I assume they would also have it at Harris Teeter, since it's the same company?). It's 80 calories per serving and sweetened with erythritol.
  • I used to work in retail, and I understand the stress. It wreaks havoc on your schedule, sleep patterns, cortisol levels, and digestion, which all contribute to weight gain. If you decide to look for something in an office, beware of how sedentary those jobs can be, and there are always treats and snacks lying around in…
  • Selenium is recommended. I take 400 mcg per day. Selenium is also found in Brazil nuts, but it's hard to know exactly how much you're getting from them.
  • Keto is simple. All you need for each meal is a protein, a low carb vegetable and/or fruit, and a fat. Examples: Breakfast - 2 eggs, sauteed spinach, and half an avocado; or chia seed pudding with coconut flakes and pecans; or sometimes I have leftover brisket and a salad for my first meal. Just depends on how I feel.…
  • Open to my friends so my nutrition coach and personal trainer can access.
  • I think of it as nutrition is for weight/fat loss. Exercise is for muscle tone and cardiovascular health. You can be thin and still be out of shape. If you want to look and feel toned, you usually need exercise. Lots of people lose significant amounts of weight through nutrition only, and they might be happy with just that.
  • I think the more recent information is different from the old Atkins method, for example. I could never sit around eating bacon and pork rinds all day like people used to. I closely monitor my calories, and I try to get a good percentage of my fats from high quality plant sources. I really am trying to find/develop…
  • You may be right. So why would I want to eat the same number of calories, include carbs, and feel hungry all the time? If fat and protein are more satiating to me, and carbs are more satiating to you, then there's nothing wrong with that.
  • I apologize. I wasn't referring to people on this thread saying that. I was referring to people I encounter, mostly at the gym.
  • I know this is different from the CICO law, and I get what you're saying. But how long would you follow an eating plan that isn't getting you the results you desire... 6 months, a year, 2 years, 10 years? That would be insane. I switched to gluten-free/low carb on my endocrinologist's, my personal trainer's, and my…
  • Sure, I can agree with all of this. The problem comes in when someone has a difficult time losing weight, and someone else smugly says to her, "It's just CICO. You must be doing it wrong. Eat like me and exercise like me and you'll lose weight." That's not how it works for everyone, and the assumption is that the person…
  • Um, yours is not open to the public. Why would I make my personal information available? I'm sure if I did, you'd just say that I recorded things incorrectly, or that it doesn't show you what I actually consumed, only what I recorded. There is literally nothing I could do or say to convince you. I'm not an idiot. I know…
  • Why? If I find a study, you'll say it's the wrong one. If I find an expert, you'll say it's the wrong one. If I tell you my personal experience, you'll say I'm wrong. I know that I lost weight by creating a calorie deficit, but I've also created a calorie deficit by following a diet that included a lot of carbs, and guess…
  • Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how many doctors, scientists, trainers, nutritionists, etc. that you cite. They are all the wrong ones... especially if they've heard of the second law of thermodynamics. :/
  • OMG! You're both right! I didn't realize that eating a low carb diet and drinking plenty of water would result in a 24 lb weight loss over the past 10 weeks that's purely water weight! Thank you for enlightening me.
  • If there's no debate, and the people arguing with me are 100% correct, then why does this thread even exist, and why does it cause so much controversy?
  • Exactly! Which is why if I eat a 1300 calorie diet that includes gluten and carbs, I can't lose weight. However, if I eat a 1300 calorie diet without gluten and carbs, my weight drops pretty rapidly. That was my only point. What works for one person doesn't work for everyone, even when the calories are equal.
  • I think it's the other way around. I'm very happy for you that you can eat a lot of carbs and maintain your weight. I never said that anyone else should change over to my eating plan. To quote my endocrinologist, "You can cut calories to try to lose weight all you want, but as long as you're eating gluten and carbs, you're…
  • Clearly. I should have said, "tracked calories and exercised diligently with a deficit." I apologize for thinking that was implied.
  • Oh, ok. You're probably correct. You probably know much more than I do about my health and my diet and exercise habits. I never said that I have a "genetic mutation," but every woman on my mother's side of the family has hypothyroidism and insulin resistance. The insulin resistance is probably not genetic, but probably the…
  • I read enough. No, I didn't read all 51 pages.
  • I'm glad that simple CICO works for you. I've tracked calories and exercised diligently for extended periods of time with very minimal results. I'm sorry, but everyone's health is not the same, and everyone doesn't have the same genetics. Also, the processed food industry works against us with all of the chemical additives…
