Try keeping the tempting food/liquor out of your house for a few weeks. That’s what I had to do and it really helped. If you know there’s a big bag of chips sitting in the cupboard, it’s much harder to resist the temptation. Don’t totally deprive yourself though either, because it makes it harder to avoid going ham when…

Do you like animals? Volunteer at your local shelter to walk dogs! They will brighten your day and it’s a form of exercise you can look forward to :)

I always loved what they called “turkey gravy”... it was a scoop of mashed potatoes with a gravy/shredded turkey mixture poured over the top. And a white dinner roll on the side.

Rather than focus on gaining weight, I would try to focus more on “healthy living” and then see if your weight falls in line with what you want. I know it might sound counterproductive, but maybe try to get a brisk half hour walk/jog (depending on your ability) in each day. Exercise releases endorphins to help you feel…

Hi there! I would be happy to mentor someone! I would probably be best helping someone who is totally new to this and/or has a lot of weight to lose. —I am a big believer in making small, sustainable, changes to keep working towards your end goal. —Lots of fresh produce. —Not a huge fan of commercial diets/plans. —I…

You can do it! At least this time around, you will have a jump start because you already know what works for you!

If your current plan is so hard that you can’t follow it, than you might want to reconsider the plan you’re trying to follow. Rather than doing an intense and/or restrictive exercise/diet plan, look at things from a long term perspective and then start by making small changes. Make a Pinterest board with inspiring quotes,…

MFP pulls the step data from my iPhone. And thank you, I know my “real life” health and fitness is what truly matters. This has just been bugging me because I don’t understand why it’s tracking things the way it is. You’re right though, I will remind myself not to get hung up on the numbers :)

I am just manually adding exercise in the MFP diary, but it wipes out the naturally tracked step calories. For example— today, the app had tracked around 8,000 steps at my day job and it showed around 50 calories or so burned from that general daytime activity. Then tonight, I went to the gym and did an hour of walking on…

Avoid buying snacky foods and keep your fridge stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables— this has helped me tremendously! If I have a bag of chips or Hershey’s kisses sitting on the counter, it’s much harder to reach for that bag of carrots. Don’t deprive yourself completely either though. I just buy one single serve…

One of the most helpful changes I personally have made, is to not buy (much) junk food when I grocery shop. If I fill my fridge with fresh fruit and veggies, that’s what I’m forced to snack on when I get hungry. It has made a huge difference. If I have chips or snacky things sitting around the house, I end up eating them.…

Veggies can taste totally different depending on how you prepare them. For example, I really don’t like raw broccoli or green beans... but boiled, they taste so much better to me. One of my very favorite things to make is a bowl of fresh green beans with bacon bits on top. I snap the ends off my beans, throw them in a bowl…

I hear you— it can be exhausting to have so much “to do” constantly swirling in your head. One thing I find helpful is keeping a yellow legal pad handy and writing everything down that I need to remember. Cleaning, appointments, shopping list, etc. It greatly reduces my stress because my brain can be clear. I write things…
