Help with app calorie counts?

Hey there! I’ve been using MFP since November so I’m used to logging and what not. Recently I’ve started exercising at the gym. When I log my exercise though, the app doesn’t add any more burned calories from steps/general activity during the rest of the day. Can anyone explain why that is?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!

Are you using a fitbit or similar device? It may be that MFP exercise selections tend to give pretty high calorie amount, so you device isnt adding anything else for the day since your MFP adjusted goal is already high enough.0

I am just manually adding exercise in the MFP diary, but it wipes out the naturally tracked step calories.
For example— today, the app had tracked around 8,000 steps at my day job and it showed around 50 calories or so burned from that general daytime activity.
Then tonight, I went to the gym and did an hour of walking on the treadmill. I went into my diary and logged the time of the exercise and the 250 calories it burned, but now the 50 from earlier have disappeared and it only shows a daily calorie expenditure of 250 calories.1 -
I've found the calorie tracking is better to be used as an overall guide rather than an absolute measurement. Reality is what counts, so don't stress if you don't get credit on the tracker. Your body (reality) is what matters and will reflect your exercise.0

What are you using to track your steps?0 -
MFP pulls the step data from my iPhone.
And thank you, I know my “real life” health and fitness is what truly matters. This has just been bugging me because I don’t understand why it’s tracking things the way it is. You’re right though, I will remind myself not to get hung up on the numbers0
