  • Thanks everyone! I've barely been on the computer the last week, as I'm getting used to the schedule and have been pretty wiped out by the end of the day. I'm just seeing your responses now. Some really good ideas on here, including the cleaning idea. I've just become so accustomed to morning activity, I've found that I no…
  • I don't think I could read or watch TV while I'm working out, although I was on an elliptic that stared right at the TV today, so I did read a bit of the CC on the school shooting. I like an eclectic mix of music, so long as it's mostly uptempo. Usually iTunes on shuffle...today I ran across Rage, Van Morrison, Cage the…
  • Interested to see the responses for this. I've noticed a cramping feel in my shins when I walk on the treadmill. If I slow down, it improves, but I do not enjoy walking that slowly. If I jog, I have no issues. Not sure if it's just the treadmill. It's been too cold to do brisk walks outdoors, but that's about to change.
  • I had quit drinking in June (3rd time in 15 years). I spent the first 3-4 months really wallowing in depression. The last time I had quit I had really started to organize my life, but it wasn't happening for me this time. I had tried exercising a few times in the last couple of years, but always stopped shy of 30 days. By…
  • I had pretty much zero experience working out, and I started with the 30 Day Shred. I think it's an excellent beginner workout. I am just branching out from Jillian, and I really like Jessica Smith's free videos on YouTube as well. I think as beginner, it's important to find workouts and trainers who are encouraging and…
  • I took a class for women at my local rec center. The instructor knew weights, but had zero idea how to teach a class, and I learned next to nothing from her. HOWEVER, it was worth my $40 to get comfortable walking into the weight room. I was lucky (?) to be unemployed at the time, so I went during the slowest times and…
  • Yikes, I went back to Level 2 for the first time in awhile, and I forgot how much the first circuit cardio sucks. I've been doing planks for months now, but that 2 full minutes in plank is brutal.
  • I've done all the levels of Ripped now, although I have not completed the days I have blocked off for it. After BFBM, anything seems like a breeze lol! Level 3 and 4 are challenging, but I really like them. I think I'm starting to become a little more coordinated now, and I'm enjoying a more intermediate workout.
  • Am I supposed to have one? I was just commenting.
  • I started working out in November. 40 years old and had never been to a gym (yes, seriously!), but I really like the strength portion of the workout vids I was doing, so I decided to take a community ed weights class for women. It's the first time the instructor has taught this class, so it is a little disjointed and…
  • I'm doing this workout in rotation with others. I'm 4 days into Level 2. It's tough but I really like it. I'm going to try Level 3 in the next couple days.
  • I think it takes about 30-45 days for the desire of it to sort of dissipate, and to get used to not having it around. I would say it took me a good 90 days for my emotions to level out. But I drank an average of about 7 beers a night, probably with a whiskey nip in there, too. So I think I was going through some real brain…
  • I'm in. I'm not overly enthused about most veggies, so I'll really need to work on that. I do like fruit, but I don't eat much of it. In the last few days, however, I've had perhaps 3 bananas, 3 oranges, 2 apples, and today I had a whole container of blackberries that was absolutely divine. I quit smoking in November, and…
  • Hy-Vee has a store brand Cheddar and Sour Cream potato chip. Not only is it the best, it is the cheapest! They have them on sale for 3/$5 frequently, and sometimes only 99 cents a bag. I ate them with cheddar cheese every night. I bought I jar of polish dills to cure the salt cravings when it gets really rough.
  • Rotating Ripped, Killer Arms, Killer Buns, NMTZ and BFBM. I want to try Body Revolution in the fall. Gardening and yardwork will take care of my workout vid time for summer.
  • I better get in on this one. I'm trying to clean up my eating in January. I finally tracked my calories yesterday, and all I can say is WOW. I watch about a half hour of TV a night and eat my worst stuff during that time, even when I'm not all that hungry. When I saw where I was with calories last night, I at least stuck…
  • First day of Ripped completed today. Was able to use 5 lbs weights through nearly the entire workout, with the exception of the reverse flies and the side lunges. I fear I will never entirely master the side lunge. I'm working out regularly for the first time in my near-40 years, so considering I thought I would die using…
  • Thanks to you both. I learned something new today. I've been told for years that breakfast is very important so that you have "fuel." I certainly don't want to be one of those people who won't allow myself a cupcake and eat bland chicken and raw spinach for every meal. But I am finding that I really enjoy working out and…
  • Thank you. You can do it. And you can even do it at weddings and parties and dates with guys you like that drink (if you are single). It's hard at first, gets better, and gets hard again at times. But you'll feel good about yourself and you'll look back and wonder how you were ever lucky enough to escape some terrible…
  • I quit drinking nearly 7 months ago. Two years before that, I had quit for just over a year. I also quit in my mid-20's for a year and a half. My brother had told me years and years ago: "some people just shouldn't drink, and you're one of them." It's interesting because I know he's right, but alcohol seems like so much…
  • I like a good rock playlist. I generally keep iTunes on shuffle, but I realized I have a lot of slow music, so I started a playlist with a faster tempo; I just need to build it up a little. But some of my favorite artists/albums are Volbeat, Cage the Elephant, Guns and Roses (Appetite for Destruction), Disturb's The…
  • I hate cardio! Since middle school I've despised that "heart gargling in my throat" feeling. But I did it last night and made it all the way through. The hardest circuits for me were the old school calisthenics and the 2nd to last one. I HATE high knees!!!! Yuck, yuck, yuck! I'll make sure to check in with you on Ripped in…
  • Right here with you. Almost 7 months sober. Previously quit for a year and then decided to drink some wine at Christmas. Then kept going for another 2 years. I think all the time about how I could be 3 years sober by now. This time, I think of alcohol as pure poison that I won't allow in my temple. I also live in a rural…
  • I had just bought Killer Arms, Killer Buns, and Ripped in 30 for nearly $10 each on Amazon. Grrrr. But I did pick up some of her others at the Dollar Tree yesterday. Even at $10, they're a lot better investments than the cigs I used to smoke. I actually just finished doing 30 Day Shred, 6 Week 6 Pack, and No More Trouble…
  • I just finished doing 30DS, 6 week 6 Pack and No More Trouble Zones. I mixed up the workouts, doing 10 days of each level of shred, 15 of each of 6w6p and 15 x's of NMTZ, just rotating the workouts and levels to keep it interesting. Level 2 of 6w6p was the biggest killer for me. I feel FABULOUS. I'm so happy that I just…
  • I'm rotating workouts from 30DS, 6-week 6-pack and No More Trouble Zones. I've come close to finishing the 30DS, so I decided some variety would help.
