A quick story about why trail running gets me so fired up.... my brother, Eric, was tackling his second 100 mile race at the Kettle 100 in Wisconsin and was struggling to finish. At one of the later aid stations, he encountered an amazing group of trail runners known as the Ninja Runners and what follows is what happened…

I have 6 pairs of Merrells (4 road, 2 trails) which are all zero-drop. Merrell is probably my favorite shoe company. I have 5 pairs of New Balance (4 road, 1 trail) all from their minimus line. The road shoes are all zero drop and the trail shoe is 4 mm. I have 2 pairs of Inov-8 (1 road, 1 trail). The road is zero drop,…

Then I won't be doing any fitbit step challenges with you.

One advantage that I have discovered about being able to run in zero drop shoes is that it eliminates the guess work about buying shoes. It is nice because I can order everything online with no worries. I only need to decide if I want any cushioning or not. I can tolerate up to a 4mm drop in trail shoes, but anything more…

The wrong shoes can kill you

I can't imagine going for a 10 mile run starting at 9 at night...

That was a gentle suggestion. She asked for a push.

Pick your poison... Just run... It's only 5 damn miles. If running didn't involve suffering everyone would be doing it.
-
Waterproof bandaids on the nips, Vaseline elsewhere... But only if I'm going over 10 miles... Shorter runs don't cause issues

Yes...

I am so over this day. Too many whiny clients, fickle judges and stupid phone calls. Does running out of fvcks count toward my monthly miles?
-
I think @katiebug3268 can do it! I started running in 2011... on April 25 of that year I squeezed out my very first mile in a cotton t-shirt, gray Russell sweats and Reebok cross-trainers. I got educated in a hurry about running clothes and especially shoes. Chafed nipples and blistered feet are harsh teachers. I ran my…

Wow... what an exciting morning! The only thing I encountered today was large loose dog that helped me find my runner's high.

@AlphaHowls Only 13 miles today? Are you ok? Sick? Injured? :D

@vm007 I think it is actually a range. According to the American Psychological Association, the divorce rate is 40-50% for 2018. The rate is higher for subsequent marriages. http://www.apa.org/topics/divorce/ I do know that for the past 35 years I have never had a slow down in work. I swear sometimes the rate feels like…

LOL.... Actually it's my brother after a particularly hard fall... We carefully document all of our wrecks... Then, and only then, do we inquire about injuries...

Here is a delightful aid station story... http://dailydumbbell.com/plus-sized-runner-has-to-be-forcibly-removed-from-aid-station

@garygse lol

I am 60...I have no aches or ailments. My hips used to bother me, so I replaced them. Twice.
-
@Teerai That seems to be a very complicated, contrived way to get a runner's high... Lol... I get that every time some loser dog owner let's his/her dog run loose... Quite honestly, the best runner's highs that I have gotten have been when I am on 20+ mile solo training runs and around the 20 mile mark I take a few hits…

I love New Balance... but only their Minimus line
-
@huntersvonnegut Yes... whether it be mental, emotional or physical.

I am a divorce attorney. Statistically, about half of you will be in to see me despite your protestations to the contrary.
-
I think that I do frequently. When my alarm goes off at 4:50 a.m. and I'm stabbing around in the dark for my running shoes I find myself many times muttering, "Dude, you gotta be high getting up this early to run..."

Which time?

Lol... I think pooping in the woods during a run is primarily in the domain of trail runners, who are a separate brand of idiot. And the word "real" is bandied about loosely to describe various levels of idiocy, and in no way meant to denote levels of legitimacy as a runner. ;)
