  • @skippygirlsmom You are spot on... until you crash hard on the trail AND poop in the woods, you are not a "real" trail runner. Although you do not have to do both on the same run, I have experienced one leading to the other... Some documented wrecks...
  • I don't eat anything or carry water for runs 10 miles or less.... For longer runs I just do peanut butter on an English muffin and maybe take a granola bar with me. If I am feeling particularly ambitious, (which I do during the last 10 weeks of my training plans) I will make a batch of spelt crepes the night before and…
  • Ultras are famous for being running buffets with a smorgasbord of real food. I try to get 200-400 calories an hour between food and energy drinks... eating something about every 30 minutes.
  • @workaholic_nurse 13 miles is a solid distance to run. I remember how I felt after after my first one and wasn't sure I would ever be able to run much more than that. After I ran my second one, I ditched road races and went to trail races and moved up to the 30k distance then jumped to 50k. I really like that 50k distance…
  • I have only done trail races and the people manning the aid stations had camping grills fired up and were pumping out those sandwiches like Willy Wonka machines.
  • Reading all these aid station ideas has been bringing back lots of race memories... some good (potatoes and grilled cheese :) ) and some not so good. When I attempted my first 50 mile race I made a stupid rookie blunder and chuffed down a sports drink that I had never tried before at the very first aid station only 7 miles…
  • @_nikkiwolf_ I run five days a week T, W, TH, SA, SU, with SA being my long run day... I do weights three days a week M, W, F. I lift and run on W because W is typically my shortest run of the week. I follow the training plans in Bryon Powell's "Relentless Forward Progress: A Guide to Running Ultramarathons." By far the…

  • They are mashed potatoes made a little thicker than normal then rolled into about 2 inch balls... often set next to a plate of salt if you want to roll them in it... a couple of those and a half of a melty grilled cheese in a fall or early spring race makes me so happy... lol
  • My favorite aid station food is grilled cheese.... I also like mashed potato balls
  • I ran my 16 miles today in these very light, very flexible, extremely minimalist zero-drop shoes... I can literally roll them up and put them in my pockets.

  • I prefer ativan and running
  • @PastorVincent It's worth a try... I have to order more... My dad decided to clean the pantry and threw out a virtually brand new bag because he didn't know what it was. I was almost ready to conclude that making it to 85 was good enough for him.... >:)
  • Tailwind is the shlt... Especially the Green Tea Buzz... I have run two 50ks with no other nutrition or hydration than Tailwind....

  • I live with my dad and he has MLB ticket, so its baseball 24/7... except when he tunes into Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. I don't really like anything on TV (or movies) so I just watch what he watches.
  • Yesterday went to a picnic with my "ink family", ate lots of good food, drank sufficient amounts of alcohol, lit some sparklers, dodged some rain, went home and was sleeping sweetly by 10:30 and neither saw, nor heard a single firework. It was a good day.
  • @3M_TA3 Now that's damn near heart-breaking...
  • I might need a little bourbon boost to get ready for this group...

  • @PastorVincent Great run! Almost makes up for the first three days of slacking and whining.

  • I'm new too... why don't you intimidate me and use that to build your confidence to intimidate others?
  • Yep. It's a rule.
  • I have run the Glacier Ridge Ultra(50k) a few times and totally love that course--- mostly because it is 15 minutes from my house and I can run those trails all the time, but my favorite race experience was doing the Cloudsplitter (50k) in Kentucky. That race was special because not only was it incredibly difficult, after…
