Do it... :)

@7lenny7 That totally sucks! I didn't even know we had extensor digitorum brevises or that we could tear them. I learn something new every day.
-
@RunRachelleRun I will most likely run it again, especially now that I know what to expect. If I had not lost my phone, I think I would have made it, even with the missed training.
-
@7lenny7 ... Congrats on your race and I loved the report, especially the pictures. So cool to do a timed trail race!

So here is my race report for the Sinnemahone Ultra 50k that I ran on Saturday. On Saturday morning I got up at 3:00 a.m. to drive to Emporium, PA, which is about two and a half hours away so I could pick up my race packet at 6:30 a.m. for a 7:30 a.m. start. It was about 42F and raining most of the drive and I was stressed…

I am sorry I have been so absent... I truly miss you guys... Many things have been demanding priority over my running, but I am getting up at 3 a.m. to drive 2 hours to my 50k race tomorrow. I am not ideally prepared since I have missed several weeks of running, but I signed up for it and I told everyone here that I was…

Been in a major slump...so pathetic. Hardly any running for 6 weeks and my 50k is a week away. I gave serious thought to skipping it, but ultimately it's not in my nature, so I will go die on that mountain...

Well after three weeks of multitudinous and widely varied suckiness and no miles, I finally got out for a short run this morning. The upside is that my legs are rested and healthy. The downside is that I lost three crucial weeks of training for my race in a month. Maybe if I go hard between now and then and skip the taper…

Totally missed my goal last month with only 116 miles... shooting for 150 in September.
-
That is very tempting! I am always about inflicting unnecessary pain on myself... Unfortunately, that is a week after my 50k and also I will be Dayton, OH for my son's year end soccer tournament.

Riding a funk out.
-
Why did they cancel that?? That race ran along the same route as the big one.
-
@travelling_lots I mostly go sockless, but if it's wicked cold, I go with a basic merino wool hiking sock or the Mizuno Breath Thermo
-
Totally loved 8/16 to 8/23
-
Yeah... One of the cool things about minimalist running shoes is that the majority of them are built to be comfy sockless

You know you have good winter stuff if you are freezing your *kitten* off for the first couple of miles and then warm up to the sweet spot of just warm enough to keep moving for a while...
-
I do need to modify my comments slightly... because I run outdoors all winter, I do spend a little more on winter running gear. I go exclusively (with one exception) with Mizuno Breath Thermo jackets, pants, socks and gloves... that stuff is magical. It super light weight, but as soon as you start sweating it wicks it away…

Wow... I could not fathom paying that much for sunglasses... I can't even figure out why people wear them for trail runs... when I try wearing them, I trip all over sneaky cobwebs and snail tracks...
-
I spend my money on shoes. Shoes are the only thing runners need to spend serious money on. Shorts? Tops? Socks? Seriously... I've tried dozens of brands ranging from $35 for tech shirt to $5... difference in performance? Not a damn thing. UA and Nike are the absolute worst for gouging people for a name brand... some the…

I wouldn't touch Under Armour with a ten foot pole.
-
The ticker is retarded. Avoid it. Socks? I skip them entirely.
-
Races that permit drop bags have them at specific aid stations at specific mileages... and they usually designate what aid stations you are permitted to have a crew.
-
I have run several ultras. I run and train alone and I have never been in a running group or had a running partner. I follow the the advice and routines in "Relentless Forward Progress". Most 50k races do not permit drop bags or pacers unless the course is particularly challenging. I have used drop bags in 2 50ks and one…

*blushing* Sounds like a win/win for me...
-
I feed my legs whatever they want. They don't really like meat that much, but holy shlt, do they love alcohol.

Check out Eric Orton's book "The Cool Impossible". http://www.runningwitheric.com/page/the-cool-impossible A great book with tons of great information on strength routines (using only a slant board and a fit-ball) and running technique. The slant board and fit ball routines are amazing and when I do them regularly, I see…

The best times for me to run are early mornings EST.... so whatever date you choose, I could start at 5 a.m. EST and go as late as 8 or even 8:30 a.m.
