A McDouble, small french fry, and side salad with light Italian dressing is just a hair over 600 calories if you chuck the bottom of the bun. Keep them coming people. I like this thread. I do better when I pack my lunches, but that is not always an option and it is good to have quick alternatives that don't break the…

Fresh-- either homemade or store bought sauerkraut-- just make sure it hasn't been Pasteurized, gets things going for me. Between the bacteria, fiber, and the salt that pulls water into your gut, the results can be dramatic. Kim-chi will do the same thing. I also track my fiber along with my macros.

Like said above, planning is the key. If we do fast food, I know ahead of time that I can get away with a burger, small french fry, and side salad for a meal. Other restaurants, a reasonable portion of grilled/baked/broiled/steamed.... chicken/pork/beef with vegetables for a side dish and a salad. Chinese? I know I can…

My veggie taco filling recipe: 1 cup prepared black beans 1 cup prepared brown rice 2 cups dry textured vegetable protein 2 cups water 4 tablespoons taco seasoning ....bring the water and taco seasoning to a boil, turn off heat and stir in the TVP. Wait 10 minutes. Stir in the beans and rice. I seem to recall that it makes…

I am 6'3", 320 pounds, have it set to sedentary and MFP has me at 2030 calories a day to lose 2 pounds a week. The exercise I do throughout the day, I log in addition to that. Beans1955-- You are wrong. 1oz of plain oatmeal is 100 calories and has 4 grams of protein. 1oz of 90% lean ground beef is 50 calories and has 6…

Sauerkraut with turkey sausage is a great low calorie meal. I have lots of ideas for meals under 400 calories, but all of them involve meat. I am not sure how avoiding meat is going to help you lose weight. Could you please explain?

Yes. Some guidance would be helpful. Are there any particular foods you are fond/not fond of? A particular diet strategy? Working with a tight budget? Cooking for yourself or a whole family?

Simple works well. Add 1 pound of lentils, 5 cups of water, and 2 tablespoons of veggie/beef/ham/chicken base. Bring to a boil then turn down to a simmer. Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes until desired tenderness is reached. Eat the lentils. The same thing works with split peas.

Correct. In theory, that is how it is supposed to work. In practice, what I have been doing is allowing myself to eat back half of those calories that I burned because I feel they may be overly optimistic. I could also be wrong and they are spot on. My suggestion would be to try it if you want to, and if over time you are…

If you are referring to what you ate on Saturday as "bombing" I think you did great! You got some good protein in there... fruits, vegetables... plus a bit of a treat and stayed within your goal. There is no point in going to extremes because it will lead to abandoning your diet. If you stay within your goals day in and…

What I have found is that if I start with some sort of lean protein for a meal, then add on vegetables and go sparing with the starches and high carb stuff, I do pretty well with my protein.

What specific ideas are you looking for? Do you have any dietary restrictions? Are you looking for something with a specific diet or eating strategy in mind? What are some of your priorities? Budget? Time? Taste?

I am not vegan or vegetarian, but having some textured vegetable protein (TVP) around is a good way to adapt some meat based recipes to vegan. Take taco seasoning, 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Add 2 cups of TVP and a cup of prepared black beans and you have a pretty tasty taco filling. Manwich sloppy joe sauce is…

As far as baked goods go, I have never really found anything as satisfying as the real thing so I do not bother anymore. If I want a brownie or chocolate chip cookie, I eat one if I earned it by eating smart that day or exercising. My biggest things were bread and pasta. To get type 2 diabetes under control, I ended out…

My eating habits are exactly the same way. I have had absolutely no issues gaining weight with that routine either.

A lighter way to fry them is to dust the fillet with seasoning and a bit of cornstarch then pan fry in a bit of oil. Not quite as low calorie as grilled, steamed, or baked but much better than breaded/battered then deep fried.

My go-to for all fish is Lawrey's seasoned salt and dill. You can either bake it or grill it that way. If you like pan fried, a light dusting with corn starch plus the Lawrey's and dill is what I use. Most fish is excellent. The trick is to barely cook it until it is done. Overcooked fish is terrible. Another seasoning for…

I reversed type 2 diabetes. When I first started trying to get it under control, the only thing that worked was going super low on the carbs. A big help was getting rid of bread and I used low carb tortillas as a substitute. If you do not have a glycometer, get one and take readings every morning at fasting and 90 to 120…
