Argue all you like. Smoking hardens the arteries, and lots more besides. Nicotine does not. The problem here is that people equate nicotine with smoking. Your Dr was referring to the known effects of smoking.

I smoked for 35 years before switching to vaping in 2012. Still smoke free now and I barely touch my vape from one week to the next. Nicotine is no more harmful than caffeine. It’s the smoke that kills.

I’m 56. I lost 33kg, three years ago, and have kept it off since then. I didn’t need any restrictive fad diet. I just eat less and move more.

Here in the UK we had a TV show in the 70’s called “Superstars”. It was essentially sportsmen from various sports, competing against each other. One of things that stood out was that racing drivers we’re generally among the fittest.

I’d just have the burger.

“Possible” Yes. Advisable? Depends on your starting weight and height.

Slightly off topic, but I read an interesting article this week about the 10k steps target that most trackers default to. Apparently the number was chosen by an early Chinese manufacturer of pedometers, purely as a marketing gimmick, because the Chinese character for 10,000 looks a bit like a man walking. They sold their…

Apparently I had 40 cups of tea for breakfast yesterday. I wouldn’t have noticed the duplication, but there was no sugar added. I thought “no sugar, that can’t be right”.

I’ve got 2 compromised discs in my lower back and a long history (25 years) of sciatica. Losing 30kg+ didn’t help the underlying problems. The surgery did that. But being lighter and much stronger in my core is helping keep the residual nerve pain issues under control. Like the guy above, I’m sensitive to anything that…

I’m in my 3rd year of maintenance. I’m never at the same weight 2 days, or 2 weeks running. For me, maintenance means eating at a small surplus until I hit the top of my maintenance range (83-88kg), then switching to a small deficit, until I hit the bottom of my range. I’ve been doing that with MFP for the last 16 months.…

25kg of butter looks like this.

No. They are highly inaccurate. Treat them as a rough estimate, rather than fact.

In the Uk it’s strongly recommended for smokers by Public Health England and nearly all the medicine-related Royal Colleges. The consensus here is that it’s at least 95% safer than smoking.
-
I’m currently a bit lighter than I was when I left school in 1981. Admittedly some of that is hair loss!
-
I don’t do hourly weigh-ins but I’m usually at least 2-3kg heavier in the evening than I am in the morning.
-
I did it for most of my weight loss, but I ate at a small deficit (1800, roughly counted) for 5 days and 800 for 2. I then maintained for a year by simply reintroducing the 2 hungry days whenever I hit the top of my maintenance range. This was all before I discovered MFP, but my eyeballing portions to keep a rough count in…

The nicotine delivery of an ecig is not as efficient as analogue cigarettes, so you’re probably getting less nic than you used to when smoking. It may not seem like you’re eating more, but I bet you are. I did when I switched.

As someone who came to a Fitbit (Charge2) via a couple of much cheaper Chinese bands, the price premium of the Fitbit is worth it for the software and how it integrates with MFP. I love mine and use it all the time, but I’m a bit of a data nerd.
-
Yes. I track my CI with MFP and my CO with a Fitbit. On sedentary days I eat up to maintenance, or slightly over. On exercise days I find I need to leave a moderate deficit “in the bank” as the Fitbit seems to overestimate my burn a bit. I’ve been maintaining like this for over a year, so it works well for me.

I don’t know if I “had to” but I gave up alcohol as the first step of my weight-loss, because I’ve never been a big eater and it seemed the easiest way to cut a lot of calories. Over the first few months, I lost 20lbs or more, so it certainly gave me a good start. Oddly enough I found it easy. In the 30 years leading up to…

I gained and lost weight on SSRIs (prescribed for neuro pain), over a 2 year period. I stopped the meds about halfway through my main cut (50+ lbs) and my data showed that the meds made no real difference to my BMR. My rate of loss with and without the meds was the same.

I got 3 lines into their description before my BS meter started buzzing like crazy.

I gain 2-3kg every day. It’s usually gone again by morning.

What they said, but also, sodium is essential. Having very low sodium levels is unpleasant to say the least.

The best conversation killer I’ve found is mentioning that the first thing I did was stop drinking. I never get asked what the second thing was. 😂

The only thing I’d ban is diet advertising.

I never go over my calories*. *My calories = whatever I decide I want to eat, bearing in mind my activity, weight and mood at the time.

My Protein’s Salted Caramel is hitting the spot for me at the moment.
-
Do you have KFC where you’re from? That always works for me.

I gained 2kg by just moving my scales an inch or two further away from my bathroom wall. In general, I gain at least 3kg between breakfast and bedtime every day. Don’t sweat the small fluctuations. In 2-3 weeks you’ll start seeing a trend.
