  • Our winters are wet, cold, and the days are about six hours long. It doesn't take much to be lazy. Every winter I gain weight because of the "rewarding exercise with food" syndrome, when the calorie burning exercises are out of the equation.
  • I'm a really good cook. I can and do eat it all. Keep in mind my calorie limit is 2200, so an extra 1300 is a nothing to me. Steve's post explains it better than I can. "Rewarding exercise with food" is done by vegans and snackers alike.
  • Wasn't lighthearted, really. It's a problem I bet many have. Check it out. Someone exercises for the sole purpose of being able to overeat. That someone stops exercising for whatever reason, but still has the eating habit. Instant weight gain. Over-exercising to enable overeating isn't a good thing at all. btw, I've always…
  • This thread is food pornography. Shame on youse...shame, shame, shame. For penitence, cut today's intake by 25% and jump rope for 25 minutes.
  • 1 cup oatmeal, 4 strawberries, 2 slices Dave's Killer White Bread, 1/2 tbl Lite Land o' Lakes butter 1 hour home exercise: free weights and planks
  • It's cold, raining, and my mandatory weekend rest period. I'm a good chef. I made a great meal for four, but there's only two of us piglets in da sty. Guess who ate up the tasties? If it wasn't for the guilt, I'd have no shame and 50 pounds of fat. Monday is back to the 4am wake up and hitting the exercise routine and…
  • I know that below 160 is not healthy for me. I lose energy and get sleepy and lazy. Calories=energy and for me to be juiced means 160-162. I know the rule is to not freak until 5 pounds over target, but for me, it's 2 pounds.
  • Old age is just.another.excuse. I look at pictures from 50 years ago and the slackers that were slacking, just like they're doing today. The major difference is the decades of booze and food wearing them down. Bigly. Me? I'm fine. Blood looks like a 20-something and body fat is +/- 8%.
  • Daily work out; logged meals sorta honestly; thought about my eating problem and resolved to stay at this weight.
  • It's all about how badly you want to achieve your goals. Think about the things that you love to do and will spend all the time needed to achieve them. Is exercise on that list? Really on that list? Honestly? Enjoy yourself...choose the exercise that you enjoy and want to do. yikes..I got to get my 30 minute planks done.
  • If it hurts, don't do it. There are many alternatives to every exercise, so chose the ones that don't hurt. Or stop with the weights entirely. Planks, bands, and jump rope are just as good as free weights. Just have fun and don't hurt yourself.
  • Stay with the weight that doesn't give you pain. We're into this for our health, not our pain. I don't do some exercises just because 1) I hurt doing them 2) I might get hurt doing them 3) I don't want to. We need to have as much fun exercising as we had with doughnuts. Chose your doughnut carefully.
  • Weekly weekend protein bombing: BLT (sourdough, baked uncured center cut bacon) and my normal 3/4c oatmeal, fresh fruit, coffee: 770 calories/31 protein
  • I thought it was insta-thc. rip off thread.

  • Hiring someone to be accountable for yourself? Ain't gonna happen. You either want it or you don't. Slacking off can be caused by a busy life, boredom, distractions, whatever. I work out 5 days a week for a total of +/- 8 hours a week, including biking. Weekends are mostly free. We all slack sometimes. It's hard work.…
  • Tension/anxiety will push me to overeating comfort foods. I mean, back in the fat ol' days, a box of Entenmanns would make the discomfort go away. Donuts are a no-go now. Last night was the first time in a year that I emotionally overate, plus had a whole Mexican apple cup dealie--all homemade, by the way. The original…
  • Slippery slope, right there. Stick to your plan. The burned calories are a bonus and not permission to eat tasties.
  • I'm old, too. That said, your goals are confusing me. Are you into bodybuilding or weight loss? The two are very different. Bodybuilders have 32" waists, but weigh 220 pounds. Skinny guys have 32" waists, but weigh 160. Using the scale instead of the tape measure seems to be the easiest (re: lazy) for me, but not the best…
  • 4 dislikes! Wow, I do not fit in here. I won't disturb you again.
  • I've seen it twice that I know of. They weren't employees, by the way.
  • The best knowledge I've gained was from strangers in the gym, either from them tapping me on the shoulder, me pestering or staring at them. Public gyms aren't private. I got my home gym going because I started to really hate the crowd in all three gyms in my smallish town. Among other reasons, but yeah. I've seen many bad…
  • Public gyms can be a negative place and many--most--people get turned off by the experience. The private trainers are very popular, but you have to work around their schedule--not an option for me. The places like Barre are getting very popular, too, but don't offer drop-in schedules. I have a modest home gym now and love…
  • "You're skinny!" "No! You're fat!" Shuts them up every time.
  • When I decide on food, sodium is the second thing I look at; calories being the first. I'm the chef at my house and only use no-sodium-salt, but most canned and packaged items are loaded with salt.
  • Yep. That's why I weigh myself 2nd thing in the morning.
  • No? Some skin may loosen, but billions of seniors are in their 18yo body fat range (3.9%), yet they say it is 12.4% I bet it's a marketing ploy or like the famous "calorie", it's a best guess number.

  • bwahahaha! HA! It's just you. Winter is my worst time. 18 hour nights. Just chilly enough to stay inside. Always a little rainy. Terrible riding weather on my scoot (it goes into storage/maintenance mode) and bicycle (it sits in my den staring at me). I'm going to get a few pristine acres in Santa Monica and enjoy their…
