  • "Diet." That word should be banned in the Maintenance thread because we no longer "diet." We've graduated from the diet phase into the "eating normally phase."
  • I didn't see the stupid question. If you dint have a question, you'd be either knowledgeable or not interested. (I like "remaining numbers", because I know I've forgotten or under-counted calories somehow, so it's all good.)
  • Mu 2019 winter goal is to learn to do cardio in the rain and cold. Cardio has always been a fair weather friend; a really good one.
  • There's a reason for the warning about seeing a doctor before starting exercising for reals. Get a good check up with blood works, heart, etc. No, you shouldn't feel tired.
  • Is bumping allowed here? I'm going to try high protein food for my winter weight struggle, instead of my normal high carb habit.
  • Here's a quote I use. Guess who said it...."I'd ask myself, 'What are you more hungry for? Am I more hungry to be Mr. Olympia, or to eat what I want and look like everyone else?'" he says.
  • I looked on the Accu-Measure paper chart for men and it has the same odd array for the 4-6 measurement: I'm 5 on the measurement tool at 62yo, 5'10'', 160-165, waist 31 There's gotta be a reason. Their numbers: 18yo=3.9 bf% 35yo=7.1 bf% 60yo=12.4 bf%

  • lol...I eat fish and the occasional hot link a few times a month. Otherwise, it's all "veggies." Dude, my veggie meals would beat any meat meal any day of the week. Search out vegetarian meals on the internet. Using left overs for lunch is great. If you want to get specific, search out nationalities like "American…
  • 50 here. A health dealie--plus quitting smoking--made me lazy for decades. That's over now, so I'm back to my natural weight. Want an eye opener? Lift a 50 pound dumb bell over your head...it is a lot of weight.
  • lol...quality problem, that. I use a old fashioned caliper called Accu-Measure. I bought it on the internet. (I've two regular scales that never agree and take turns being too heavy.)

  • Bottom line: There is NOT an app for losing weight. We have to STOP eating like mindless....wait....humans are the only creatures that will kill ourselves through food. Literally.
  • Some men have all the luck. I'll trade you. Your cats for my wife and her two cats. The wife's high mileage and maintenance, can't cook at all, but was a Vegas showgirl in '78 when I married her. 40 years later, that still counts for a lot. Her cats have fur, claws, annual vet bills, and go "mrrrrr". Let me know...
  • That's my thing, though. BMI can be misinterpreted by the obese. How many fat men walk around thinking they're linebackers, when it's far from the truth. Body fat measurements, not so much. When you pinch that gut fat to measure, it's really obvious. When you try to get your 44" waist into a 32" pants, it's really obvious.…
  • Take a train. There's no reason to leave a perfectly good airport.
  • Body fat percentage and waist size seems to be the true signs that you're on the right track. I've seen pro ball players and body builders with high bmi, but nobody ever could say they were too fat. Ameuter body fat measurement tools are cheap. I use Accu-Measure. My son has a professional one called "too expensive for…
  • I'll try to make it as much as a habit as brushing my teeth twice a day. Been doing that for a long time every single day and night.
  • uh yeah. You *probably* burn enough calories just living life, but there's all sorts of websites that have "body weight in-home" exercises. I have a small home gym that I use every weekday. No way could I get to the gym with my schedule. Word of caution: when you quit smoking the calories will pile on like a blizzard. Take…
  • Daily on wake up. The weight tells me how much I'm going to eat and exercise that day. Hey, I bought another scale to see if my old one was wacked. They never agree; always .5-1.5 pounds off. They take turns being the heavy. I take turns believing the light one. That said, this NFL player I met at his friend's public gym…
  • Within the parameters your doctor says. I'm now 162-165 at 5'10 and feel great. My doctor mentioned the weight loss and I told him I feel great. He shrugged his fat lil self and said fine. I know he'll ask me at the next appointment....I was 220 when I first started going to that medical office ten years ago.
  • I hate those dislike buttons (see what I did there?). If I don't like what someone posts, I just move on. I don't know the person, the writing skills, or the true intent. Maybe the post is the best they can do..I don't know. It's nice just to post without being worried about how you feel about my one sentence written in…
  • People notice fat or skinny. Probably more than any other physical characteristic. My target is 170, but I'm happier weigh my weigh-in is <165. Hey, for 25 years I had a blood disease that screwed with my body in all sorts of ways including my metabolism. I got cured 4 months ago (3 month treatment) and now maintaining my…
  • Yeah, maybe my snacking is okay. It's not like I'm doing my doughnut addiction anymore, which was my downfall. Pasta, too, but pasta is a winter discussion..:( My 2250 limit keeps me at <165 lbs @ 8% body fat, so maybe I should be content with what I'm doing. Any less than 2250 and I'd probably go into starvation mode or…
  • I'm similar to the OP in that I cook all my mostly veggie meals. You'd think that was a good thing, right. Wrong. I'm a good cook. My meals can be eaten in one sitting. Case in point: last night's Cheesy Black Bean Enchiladas. I made a batch of four with a calorie count of 500 each. I ate two and still made my daily goal,…
  • Gyms are fine, but bike riding, planks, and a small home weight set is better. If you can teach yourself to do it at home, with all the distractions, the self-discipline you'll learn is better than anything in the gym. I don't like walking or running. Biking is safer. My neighborhood is safe enough, but I cause too much…
  • yikes...spot on. Everyone, literally everyone, gains weight due to injuries or winter. Every single winter, I'll gain half the weight back, then come spring, I'll lose it. (Our 16 hour nights don't help any, either.) This winter will be different. I'll log on and won't cook all those great comfort dinners. I've never had a…
  • Scales are an evil addiction. I got frustrated, so I bought another one and set it beside the old one. They never agree. If one says I'm on target, the other will say I'm a pound or two over. Never under; always over. I have a body fat tool and a custom tape measure that ideally I should use instead of the scale(s). After…
  • 35 lbs lost. Weigh in at 165lbs now. Do ya one better (of course), buddy. I log each food separately, not using the meal feature; I force myself to look at what I ate. Maybe once a quarter is when I cheat bigly, I might accidentally forget to log in that day.
  • I walked 8 miles today on hard packed trail and streets in 85 degree heat (which is blistering hot up here). Basically, 200 minutes. Weekdays, I spend lunch on the road bike for my hour (sneaking a sandwich before lunch--it's good to be king). Weekdays, I'm up at 5am (3 hours before work) and work out in my modest home gym…
  • pffft....we're talking about middle-aged office workers who failed gym class here. They'd be far more comfortable researching fitness and tailoring what they learned to meet their needs. Every single gym in my small county is trainer-centric. Good money standing there telling clueless noobs to jump up and down.
