  • I'm really into my julienne peeler that I bought last year. I use it to finely shred veggies for stir fries and for tacos. I've been meaning to get an instant read thermometer for a while. It's on my wish list. :)
  • I love veggies, but I live in a place with limited access to exotic fruits and vegetables. I love jicama, for example, but I can't get it here. You named a couple I've never heard of (tindora?!), but next time I go back to the US to visit my family, I'm going to seek out some weird veggies. ETA: Oh, and I second your…
  • I love eggplant, and it's quite versatile. You can add it to pasta sauce to bulk it up with veggies (grated carrot works for that too and adds a bit of sweetness). You can bread it and bake it in the oven. It tastes good grilled with other veggies like onions, peppers and zucchini. It's also very good pickled if you like…
  • I love carbonated water. I found that what I enjoyed about soda, more so than the sweetness, was the fizziness of the bubbles, so carbonated water fills that void for me. I drink it plain but there are flavored versions too. You can also add a squeeze of lemon or lime. I try to avoid artificial sweeteners, so diet soda is…
  • I've been doing yoga for 10 months now, all online with YouTube videos. I started out with Yoga with Adriene, as her videos are very accessible to beginners. After a while, though, I wanted more challenging videos, and I began to do classes with Lesley of Fightmaster Yoga. Both Adriene and Lesley are great. Good luck!
  • You can make pearsauce (like applesauce but with pears!). Follow this recipe, substituting pears for apples. Sliced pears are good in salads like this one. You could also try this grilled cheese with sliced pears on it. Yum! If you eat oatmeal, you can chop them up and add them to it with some cinnamon and nuts. Happy…
  • Sauteed hake with remoulade sauce, mashed potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts
  • We have very similar stats. I'm also 5'7", and I started out at about 215 lbs. My original goal weight was 159, which is just within the healthy BMI range for our height. When I made it to my first goal, I decided that I could stand to lose a bit more (I have some very stubborn belly fat that I'm trying to get rid of), so…
  • Breakfast: oatmeal with dried figs and almonds Lunch: cabbage and white bean soup; an arepa filled with sauteed chicken, onions and peppers; and three mini chipá (cheese rolls made with tapioca flour) Dinner: Nachos made with multigrain tortilla chips, black beans, gruyere cheese, guacamole, shredded lettuce, grape…
  • Breakfast: Oatmeal with banana and almonds Lunch: Fainá (chickpea flatbread), mixed greens dressed with garlic and lemon Snack: Apple with peanut butter, homemade chai with honey Dinner: Spicy black bean soup topped with pickled radish, tomato salad with blue cheese and red onion
  • Breakfast: Oatmeal with banana and almonds Lunch: Baked salmon with horseradish yogurt sauce, boiled potatoes with herbs and a bit of butter, mixed greens dressed with garlic and lemon Snack: Apple with peanut butter Dinner: Baked shrimp taquito and spicy black bean soup topped with avocado
  • I have the opposite problem! I get in enough carbs (or sometimes go over) but have a hard time with protein. Today I had oatmeal with banana for breakfast, whole wheat pasta with vegetables and chickpeas for lunch, and a quinoa bowl for dinner (also with chickpeas). I'm not a vegetarian but today turned out to be a…
  • Ugh, yes. I have this problem. I went from around 215 lb to 163 lb (still losing), and my double belly hasn't budged. I lost 10 inches from my lower hips, but my waist measurement has only shrunk by about three inches. The roll above my belly button is what most bothers me. I honestly don't think it will ever go away. :(
