  • You've got to toughen the mind !
  • Does it say "Diet" on the bottle ? ;) :)
  • I'd have thought that any cycling would be putting pressure on the foot, you have pressure on both the down stroke and the up pull of each rotation. Clipped in especially would have pressure on the up pull, regardless of the gradient. Swimming puts minimal pressure on the feet, and using a pull buoy reduces foot movement…
  • Some advice I was given when I was doing alot of hill walking - if you want to keep being able to do alot of hill walking then use walking poles. They take a lot stress off the knees . I'm not talking about nordic walking, swinging them along on the flat, just for the ups and downs.
  • And that's it in a nutshell. Find something you enjoy and do it regularly, then it's not a chore.
  • You'd be surprised, pasta , bread, beer, sugar rich fruits..... I was veggie for 15 yrs and I put weight on!
  • Thursday night I failed, I took my bottle of sparkling water to the bar, had my dinner, but then a glass of red wine led to the bottle and then a few cheeky Chivas chasers... didn't help that I knew even with all that I was still under my calories for the day. It meant I missed my 4am run yesterday and then had the sinus…
  • I was vegetarian for 15 yrs, although towards the end I was eating fish. I'd taken it up as I thought it would give me health benefits. I realised after 15 yrs, there'd been no noticeable benefits. I never missed eating meat, but now I'm eating it again, I love a rare steak. And bacon. And roast chicken.
  • Not really enough info given to understand your situation. It depends on what is sore and what your injury/condition was. e.g: if you had a calf injury and your calf is sore then rest, but if your abs are sore, then its probably OK. I disagree with 'if you're still sore, a bit of exercise will probably help', there's a…
  • Try run walk intervals, e.g: walk 3 mins, run 30 sec for 10-20 intervals or what ever ratio of run/walk works for you. This is how you come back from injury and have to start building up your running from scratch. As the days and weeks go by, you change the intervals, reducing the walk and increasing the run until…
  • I use the yoga sessions that come with the Sufferfest cycling app. They are by the girl who does Yoga15, each session is 15 mins, so its easy to put in 1-4 sessions at a time. They have a 30 day challenge that I'm currently enjoying. Before that I used to download the Yogamazing video podcasts, which were free.
  • The mind is generally a lazy, lying piece of *kitten*, that needs discipline & training as much as the body does. It would rather you had a drink, so it can put you on autopilot while it slinks off to hide.
  • A big bag of thai chillies, chopped up into tiny slices and left in a jar of vinegar and salt. Zero calories worth worrying about, big hit of flavour and an endorphin rush.
  • I get migraines and know how they can wipe you out and leave you feeling bruised days after the pain has gone. Take it easy, make good food choices, plan your come back and enjoy the down time. Don't rush back, A couple of days off won't affect your fitness. In a day or two when you're ready to train again, it's more…
  • That's the right attitude, don't quit, then failure is impossible! Go you!
  • You have to remind yourself constantly why you are doing something and ask which do you want more, your old life or the one you are working towards ? No one can make you do something, you're the only one who drive yourself forwards, no matter how slowly it might seem. If you're taking action then that's more than 99% of…
  • Have a goal to aim for: a distance you'd like to run, a weight or dress size you'd like to be. If you've got nothing to aim for , how will you know when you get there ? The good news is you have 14 hours a day when you're not behind a desk, take off 6 for sleep and you've got 8 hours, factor in housework, travel and you've…

  • Get up at 4am, wake up slowly, coffee or energy drink, by 0430 you'll be awake and ready to go When my alarm goes off at 4am, I remind myself there will be people more driven that got up at 3 am and are already 1 hr ahead of me.
  • I went to the bar last night, because that is where us expats have to eat during Ramadan. Took my bottle of sparkling water and enjoyed drinking that with ice and lemon. I took a lot of *kitten* from my mates, they would not believe what I was drinking: "What's that your drinking Ed?" "Water" "Oh aye, and what else?" "Ice…
  • what distance is the tri ? How's your swimming ? A good tri plan would see you do each of the 3 disciplines at least twice a week, with some strength/core thrown in too. Core work helps support you on the bike and will help keep good form on the run. You should try and do at least one brick session a week - running off the…
  • To quote John Lydon, "Anger is an energy", pouring it out into a workout is the best way to release it, better than carrying it around like a burden.
  • In today's Guardian, sobering stuff! https://theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/may/30/one-weekend-bender-can-ruin-your-life-pancreatitis
  • My mind is so sneaky, it tried to convince me last night that as it was only 29th May and not June 1st, I could mix some Chivas in my sparkling water. I spoiled its night by not going to the bar and drinking just the water. F!!! my lazy mind.
  • My Genesis Day One , 8 speed hub gear, disc brakes and off road tires. An absolute blast to ride, it begs to thrown around in the dirt. My Look 576 TT bike for 'serious' riding, the 576 is an ideal frame, as when I finally get bored with TT malarkey I can convert it to a road bike. My Bianchi Oltre Nero. I'll never be good…

  • David Goggins. When the alarm goes off at 4am and I don't want to run, I remind myself Goggins will have already been up for an hour.
  • I s!!t myself prior to pretty much every race. If it's a Ironman, I start to withdraw as the race day approaches, the night before I'm almost mute. The second the gun goes off, it all disappears. I always remind myself of something I saw at Challenge Roth , a huge Iron distance race in Germany. While I was putting on my…
  • I'm in for this, alcohol is a serious weakness of mine and I believe to be the primary cause of the occasional bout of depression. I know I don't need a drink but my mind likes to trick me that I do. My mind can go and ***k itself tbh, it needs to learn who's boss.
