I believe tonight I will fire up the grill and cook some chicken legs that I plan to marinate in some leftover dill pickle juice (pickles not pickled with sugar). Undecided on the rest of the meal, but there are a lot of good non-starchy veggies in my fridge to select from. Last night it was nuked leftover pork loin, and…

Yum (only if without raisins...) Cornbread

Panera's used to have a great Cobb salad, hold the chicken but don't forget the avocado. (They've replaced it with something simply not as satisfying.) 5 Guys Burgers and Fries makes the only edible fast food hamburger; I go for the lettuce wrap, pickles, cheese and mustard.

Right now, western Massachusetts, in the rural Hilltown region.

Feel free to add me... note that I'm going the low carb route, mostly Paleo, but not to the Keto level. Love to have a few more friends!

Prior to the surgery, yes super important to get the upper body in shape. While my surgery was for a large tumor removal in the knee area, I was informed that a lot of the re-training of the body would be similar to that of a knee replacement (and in my case, maybe even worse, since that tumor had taken out a lot of…

Yes, definitely want that professional, Kris. I appreciate your advice! Also, Chieflrg, your "coming back" is inspirational. I do wish I could find a pool near here.

Never heard of lyengar until now. Will check out what this entails. Thanks.

Yes, I've been on a stationary bike as part of my PT. Yoga may be of use, and there are some teachers sensitive to the fact not everyone can attain all positions. I'll check with PT.

As others have said, it won't work long term unless you populate your diet with foods you like - decide if you are going to go low carb (that's me) or low fat, based on what you will stick to. (Do however try to remove, even if gradually, those junk carbs and junk fats, in favor of what's termed Real Food.) You don't want…

breakfast. 3 slices of bacon (no sugar), obtained from a local farmer. Two fried eggs, with turmeric and Rainbow peppercorns, ground. 3 ounces shiitake mushrooms. And, of course, coffee.

I'm only planning on tracking my food for the first month, more or less. I want a baseline... I weigh some of it, or rely on what the packaging says. Other things I eyeball. I do have to eyeball everything I eat out (I maybe eat at a chain restaurant which does post their servings, about once a month, as I really don't…

Hi there, new here. Cutting back, but not so easy in the hot weather! (At least for me.) I know things are better when I DO cut back! I love autumn so that will be the big impetus here! I'll be outdoors more, and active that way.
-
Meh. It's good in its place. Mashed sweet potatoes, no extra sweetener, but herbs and spices. (It's what I am eating now...)
-
I'm asking because my PT suggested I should now move on to a gym, and work with a specialist there. I'm in part wondering how to track here what I do.
-
These are all great suggestions! I can continue on with some of the weight room stuff I was doing in PT, that particular piece of equipment appears to be standard. (I didn't do the PT at Yale, it's nearly 2.5 hours away from here!) I wish I knew of a pool around here, I will continue to look. Yoga may be a possibility. At…

The hum of my fridge. And perhaps a little tinnitus.

Meh. (Sorry, not a yum but not a yuck either.) Tomato, basil and mozzeralla caprese salad.

Yum Vietnamese shrimp summer rolls.

I just ate breakfast: Right now I'm not hungry for anything more.

I'd also like to know of any melty cheese substitutes... that also do not contain tree nuts. I can't eat most of those... and the purpose of cheese is to melt, by and large! Thanks in advance....

I agree, but some carbs are better for you than others, some fats are better for you than others. But goals are set in terms of the three macros: Carb, Fats, Proteins. While you might be able to change percentages, this belies the fact that some carb sources are not remotely healthy, while others indeed are. Or that some…

For me, aspartamane isn't scary... it just has a taste that lingers... and lingers... and lingers. I am twice as thirsty after consuming an aspartmane drink as I was before. Might as well go to the water instead, and spare myself the gustatory disgust.

Tracking I think is good for establishing baselines, and is especially good if you can account for fiber intake etc (not just the macros). But I never want to count calories, points or any other thing as an end to itself. I suspect here I'll be tracking actual food intake for around a month, but afterwards having geared…
