I could not agree more. Refrigerated stuff takes on a kind of slimy coating just from the condensation that clings to it the minute it comes out of its wrap. However, I can see rice prepared for a few days ahead so it just needs to be tossed into the skillet for stir fry with frozen shrimp, seafood or whatnot. Spoon a…

Point of order. Having worked as a lab technician in a food lab at Proctor & Gamble for a couple of years, I would have to differ. When the rice comes out of the pan at around 200 degrees it is as bacteria free as it will ever be, Spreading it out in a non sterile environment will assure bacteria will be incorporated into…

Good luck to those of you who count calories without a scale. I'd think the $18 is essential but I'm glad lemurcat doesn't need a scale and I am sure she has some followers who don't need a scale.
-
Hahaha! That's the strategy that got most of us here. If we had good intuition and stopped when we had enough to eat no one would need any diet approach. Jesse Ventura said it best: "just push back from the table." Easy, right?

Anyone who thinks one can successfully count calories using a diary and a database without a scale needs to re-examine ones thinking. I don't think one does any favors for a person by pretending that there are alternatives. One can lose weight in a lot of ways. But not by counting calories without a scale. I say, just be…

You can't count calories properly without a scale. Don't even bother trying.
-
You would have to learn how to use it.

An average woman will require around 800 calories per day just to maintain 98.6 F body temperature in a temperate climate with ambient temperature around 65F. That is before locomotion, cell repair, digestion, and cognition (yes, the brain does something with all that blood circulating into the cranium). Colder…

You have to have a scale to count calories. $18 on Amazon. this is the best choice.

Tuna in water is but one canned fish choice. Try Polar Salmon in water. Its a bit fishy but, IMO, pleasantly so. I like it on a bit of Basmati rice or in a salad of greens.

The takeaway from the study, obviously superficial, is that if you are getting enough protein you are getting enough protein.
-
Did I say that? I think I said adaptation of metabolic rate due to dieting made a tiny adjustment and did not significantly affect weight loss for persons who are well over weight. If I didn't say that, I am now.
-
This is an often touted reason for persons not being able to lose weight. A little science is a dangerous thing for people with enormous amounts of denial and aversion. The tiny adjustments the body can make in metabolic rate has about nothing to do with weight loss by persons with large amounts of body fat. They would…

I have a recent innovation on hot sauce. Of course I use a lot of red pepper flakes, but they are really just heat. And, I don't like to acidity of most pepper sauces. But, the hot Jalapenos have a lot of flavor but need to cook in a dish. So I ran the hot Jalapenos through the blender with just enough peanut oil to…

I've been making pancakes the same way for 50 years and then I saw this video and thought I would try a crepe style pancake. Actually very good. at the :27 mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAjw4blm7M4&t=64s

The idea is to eat less of things you like. If McD can make a Egg/bacon/muffin for 300 calories, you can too. Or just go there.
-
The need for electrolytes is unrelated to you medical conditions. When your kidneys fail for lack of electrolytes you will have yet another medical problem caused by your diet.

Banana cut lengthwise and sauted in a pat of butter and a teaspoon of honey. Pour hot saute onto a big dollop of vanilla ice cream. Had it last night. 200 calories.

Here is a light shrimp lunch of Basmati Rice, red pepper flakes and cherry tomatoes with a little lobster bouillion

Or, how about: "I am trying to lose weight by counting calories so it is really helpful for me to know your recipe so I can make and accurate count."

Great price. Be sure to buy raw as they are so much better. I'm sure that is what you got. A great seasoning for shrimp dishes is Better Than Bouillon Lobster Base.

There is good news and bad news. The fish and brewis is a high calorie comfort food. It will come in at about 2 cal/g no matter what the variables are as long as the two main ingredients are cod and bread. So if you eat a bowl and it weighs a pound which is what I would expect at a minimum from a bowl you have around 900…

Oh, I forgot. You are in control of how we interpret the OP's questions and the subject matter of our replies. Sorry, I'll delete my post as soon as I get done putting away the dishes.

Its funny, I had a choice beef filet on Sat from the meat store. At $24 lb I thought it would be a real treat since I am not limited by any food doctrines. Actually, as good as it was, it came as a complete disappointment. The Salmon and lobster I had Sunday was far superior. 583 calories including french fries. And, I…

Is a person overdoing it with meat if they eat meat every day? . Whaddaya think? Seafood once a week for a pescatarian is about right? There are about 30 retail choices for seafood that don't have breading on them. I could have something different every night for a month.

Has anyone mentioned "stuffed Mangoes?"
-
Yea, that is the approach. If I have shrimp and pasta for example, I make up about 2 or 3 servings of the pasta sauce and pasta and add more frozen shrimp when I re-heat it for leftovers. I do the same thing with fish and leek soup. Make a pot of six servings 72 ounces which is mostly trout, salmon and halibut and when I…

What am I missing here? Shrimp has the same protein by weight as steak and 1/3 the calories. Haddock a little more. Salmon has more but a lot of calories. An 8 oz piece of sea bass if one can afford it has 54 grams of protein.
-
Shrimp is one of the cheapest sources of real low calorie protein. I eat a pound or two every week. All shrimp that cross state lines in the US are previously frozen. Raw flash frozen shrimp cooked without thawing are pretty close to right out of the water. But, I would not retain cooked shrimp more than a day.

I've had a lot of scales and for my money this one is the best at $18. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C465Y8U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
