Even chicken fat renders out at about 9 calories per gram. When I roast a chicken the pan is covered in fat. Bacon and untrimmed pork even more so. That is why meat should be weighed cooked, unless, of course, one is drinking the fat from the pan.

The data base is huge but highly flawed. As stated, above, it takes some finesse to get it right. After about 1000 food entries you will feel comfortable weeding through the mistakes to get the right answers. And then you can check the important ones on external data sets.

Processed "deli ham" is typically just a little above 1 calorie per gram. https://www.myfitnesspal.com/nutrition-facts-calories/cumberland-gap

Chopped pork (untrimmed) should be about 2.5 calories per gram.

I have cod as a regular, but rotate it with Halibut, Orange Roughy and Scallops for whitefish (although of course a scallop is not a white fish). Cod is always wet unless you batter and fry it which ruins the whole point of cod in the first place. And, it melts in soup and stew down to nothing. And, it is not great in a…

You have to weigh a banana. They can be 300% larger or smaller. And, don't weigh the skin unless you are eating it.

Skinnypop mini cakes.

That order? 1200

I believe in science. If you are not losing weight then your calories in = calories out. Where is the error? There is one, you just have not found it.

You should always go with the cooked weight and find the "cooked" calories per gram per USDA. Those 4.4 ounces of weight loss probably included at least two ounces of pure fat which you did not eat or drink and therefore using raw weight would have given you a 450 calorie error.

Estimates are better than nothing. With a scale, no one has to miss by much. Red meat has about 3 calories per gram, fish 1 to 2 calories per gram, Pasta 4 calories per gram raw, about 2 calories per gram cooked. Oil 9 calories per gram. Cheese 4 calories per gram.

I stay away from recipes and concoctions. If its shrimp they go in a skillet with some red pepper flakes and maybe a little soy sauce. If its avocado its sliced put on a scorched tortilla and salt, pepper and hot sauce. Scallops go right in the broiler with a little toasted sesame oil drizzled on them and a little garlic…

It is because they never go away. Every mistake some yahoo make is preserved forever for you to fight through to find a real entry. A simple computer fix that MFP is too lazy or cheap to fix.

Its all about the water and the waste elimination. Ignore daily fluctuations.

I'd get a second opinion. A low fat plant based diet for Type 2 diabetic is a complexity that most nutritionists would not impose other than for philosophical as opposed to medical reasons. At least until the Type 2 is under control.

Calorie reduction is always easier if you reduce fat because of its very high calorie density. but olive oil has no other adversities. Try coating the cutlets in a little olive oil before breading and then bake them and see how that goes.

I spray a little pam in the pan and when its popped dust it with powdered salt, not fine. It works fine. 60g of Orvilles popcorn and no oil. Just the right amount.

Measure it cooked, unless it goes in a dish where all of the cooking liquids are consumed. At 9 calories per gram, that 4 tbsp of liquid you left in the pan counts for 480 calories you didn't eat.

I try craft chocolate whenever I see it. We only have a couple of places where I live but some cities now have dozens. Fun to see it made right there also.

Pork rinds are great. Here is my choice: https://www.samsclub.com/p/members-mark-original-fried-pork-rinds-16oz/prod22644730?xid=plp_product_1_1

We did a little experiment on potato chips. The first couple are fantastic. but the salt dulls the taste so you could eat raw apple slices and not know the difference after the first few. Also, popcorn mini-cakes sea salt variety is the best, are a good choice for less calorie dense salty snack.

Love Oreos. I'll have to check out the 100 calorie pack.

I like canned salmon. Can eat it right out of the can. Also, try the packets in foil.

Protein powder is a biology experiment on yourself. May turn out all right. But, Norwegien smoked salmon has 20% protein per calories. So you can get your whole day taken care of with a breakfast of eggs and salmon, smoked or poached.

I think people get "freaked out" when confronted with goofy stuff like Keto and fasting because strict calorie counting requires consistent discipline and people are afraid they will fall back into the cycle of binging and guilt fasting. Or, denial of favorites and a miserable diet of unattractive foods. Relax folks. Don't…

Shrimp, crabmeat, white fish (halibut, sea bass, cod and orange roughy) are, IMO, the best low calorie, high protein foods one can get, cheaply and conveniently. I know, sea bass is not actually cheap, but everything else is.

You're right. I just had a little black one about the size of a baseball and half of it was 63g.

There is an explanation for every inconsistent result in calorie counting. Mostly, the explanation is pilot error. Bad counting, lazy counting, denial, aversion, etc. On the expectation end, it is also pilot error. "Oh, I'm way active. On my feet all day long. You wouldn't believe how much housework, lawn care, walking…

I was advanced. And, by the time I got to college there was nothing to remember. And, the carbohydrates slipped into a dim memory in favor of far more complicated molecules.

Alcohol made me forget it.
