After a little research, I've realized the deadlifts and planks I can work on, but finding a sled to pull 25 meters . . . Um, no. Probably not gonna happen.

I've noticed over the last few weeks that even though I'm not following a "progressive overload" program as such, once I reach a cardio or strength goal I try to increase the intensity or add something new (incline bench, jumping lunges). That's different from the years I spent going to the gym hopping on the elliptical…

Shield Cast, Gamma Cast, AMRAP . . . ? All the terms sound vaguely military. And speaking of which, after using the Army's fat percentage calculator the other day, I looked up the Army Combat Fitness Test criteria, now just the AFT. I want to work on each of the five areas, even the drag-carry (gonna watch youtube to find…

40 min on the stationary bike, tough ride overall, 3 min Helix as a warm-up. 30 min strength and conditioning: 1 set sit-ups on the incline bench, 1 set lat raises, 4-5 sets walking and 1 set jumping lunges, two 1 min planks, dead hangs @ 45 and 20 sec, 1 set air squats, hip flexor stretches and . . . I got into a bridge…

Yeah, I had some guys laughing behind my back(side) once when I was on the elliptical at the gym. That was about seven years and 67 pounds ago. Ain't nobody laughing now! I've stopped using the elliptical because it doesn't get my heart rate up high enough anymore. Go back in a day or two and try it again. Or do free…

Gym today, 2 hours Treadmill 40 min (25 running, 15 walking). Stretching, 15 minutes or so Strength/ conditioning: 25 minutes Shower etc, 20 minutes. I'm missing 20 minutes. Don't know where it went. Except maybe walking to my parking space -- not close but not 10 min each way.

Last night was Taco Tuesday at our house also. Question: does anyone ever lose time at the gym? I was there two solid hours this afternoon. 40 minutes treadmill, 25 min strength, approximately 15 minutes stretching in between. Even allowing for 20 minutes in the locker room to shower and change, I'm still short by 20…

We bake salmon in foil (or parchment paper) also, but with a honey and mustard baste. Occasionally, for a variation I'll use maple syrup and chopped walnuts. @nossmf your array of chicken recipes is impressive!

Two workouts today: Almost 9 miles in 45 minutes of biking outside, very humid conditions. Another 3 miles on the exercise bike at the gym, with 3 min on the Helix, Then 26 min strength training: 2 sets standing skullcrushers, the new triceps pull from a plank position, boats for abs, curling backwards over an exercise…

So I've lost 47 pounds since October of 2024, 40 of those since January. I had a range of clothing sizes in my closet, so through the spring I just limped along with the smaller clothes I already had, or dresses that fit even given a big weight range. I purchased a pair of Levi's from Walmart last month in a size 10. But…

Today at the gym: Cardio: a total of 38 min on the treadmill (30 min running, most at 5.5 mph after the initial warmup of 4.7-5, then 4 separate minutes at 6.4-6.7 mph pace); 8 min at 3.2 mph. Also 2 min. on the Helix Trainer to warm up. That's the fastest I've ever run on the treadmill. Ever. HR was up to 165 bpm but not…

"Dollars to donuts"!!! Lolol. Makes sense. Fettuccini Alfredo for the win.

Today was a rest day, but I took a 15 min, a 40 min, and a 20 min walk at different points today.

I look like I train now, but that (arm) muscle could well have been there before, it just wasn't very noticeable under a layer of fat. I can see muscle developing above the knee from biking standing up, so that's something. I'd like to think I've gained a little, but my starting goal was simply not to lose what muscle I…

To your last point on burning more calories at a smaller size— it could happen if I start training seriously for a longer distance triathlon, something I've been thinking about for awhile. It could also happen even if I don't. This whole weight loss process is like a giant experiment where I myself get to be the lab rat.…

Yesterday in the gym I got in a 6 mile ride on the stationary bike (30 minutes), 5 min Helix trainer, 30 min calisthenics, including walking and jumping lunges, lateral jumps, planks, and incline bench sit-ups and strength training: biceps curls, lat raises, skullcrushers (2 sets each). Mat stretches for quads, hamstrings,…

When I read once that Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps needed 10,000 calories a day to support his eight hours of practice, I nearly fell out of my chair. I think I max out at under 3500 on Thanksgiving. Eating that many calories of actual food every day sounds so daunting. Now if we're talking fast food burgers and…

Ah, the cashew butter got me up there. Ate more today. (Chef's kiss) ***** @nossmf, Ann is right about the exchange I made yesterday: a tiny dinner in order to accommodate high calorie snacks. And those Skippy bites aren't something I want again any time soon. Not tasty enough for the calories. I'm still eating at a…

I got annoyed with another thread today — the one about what everyone ate for breakfast — because regular posters always seem to have coffee with sugar or go to Dunkin for fattening breakfasts. I'd rather hear healthy options that I could incorporate into my plan instead of the same old, same old, "I don't really care…

Couldn't sleep, went to the gym at 5:45 am: 31 min treadmill (21 min at 5.2-6.5 mph, 10 min at 3.2) 12 min rowing machine, moderate intensity 20-25 min calisthenics (incline bench for sit-ups, walking lunges, the wall quad stretches another MFPer rec'd, tricep holds and other mat exercises like planks)

Couldn't sleep, went to the gym at 5:45 am. After my workout there I ate a Pure Protein bar (200 cal) then a serving of thin dipped chocolate almonds (170 cal). Black tea with half and half at my favorite coffee shop (50 cal). I'll eat a fruit (@ 80 cal) once I get back home. That should hold me for a few hours.

Cardio— Rain here today, so my planned outdoor bike ride went indoors: 6 miles at a little less than a 15 mph pace (27 min). The first mile, warming up, was probably at an 11 mph pace. I pedaled standing for about 20 seconds every 4 minutes. That got my heart rate up! Strength— Two sets of heel squats and two sets of lat…

Oh, and a new woman at my gym asked me how to use the Helix today! #goals

Update: My maintenance phase is apparently over. I'm down 2.5 lbs since posting on this thread June 5. It was that TOM and I also went lighter on exercise last week because of my sore quad muscle (left leg). I think also my TDEE is higher than 2100. Putting in "heavy exercise" for 6-7 days a week gives me 2400 calories for…

Thanks Tim. I posted on another thread more specific info. That pool is the local aquatic center, so my time there was recreational. That wall quad stretch was a new one for me! I'll have to try it out soon. I do some other stretches I got from a PT last year, but icing the muscle has helped me the most these last couple…

Kinda feel like I've been diving after reading the posts from drmwc and mtaratoot . . .. but back to reality! 18 min treadmill run at mostly 5.2 mph (couple min of that at 6.2), a 10 min walk at 3.2 mph. Helix Trainer for 5 minutes. Strength training for 30 minutes: 20 sit-ups on the incline bench, one time, but 2 sets of…

A 4 mile bike ride early this morning (12.9 mph pace); then dropping off my kid and her friend at swim practice; then on to the gym and another 5 miles on the exercise bike (13.6 mph—tired from the outdoor ride earlier). 41 min total. This afternoon, a session in the local pool of treading water and a little swimming for…

A few minutes on the Helix Trainer to warm up, 5 minutes treadmill walking to cool down, plus standing and walking lunges. Strength-- 33 min total, 2 sets of 15 reps each bicep curls, lat raises, some standing shoulder contraption with a…

On my rest day, Sunday, I ended up moving logs from off a back fence to the wood pile for 40 minutes, so strength training basically.

Shorter bike ride (3.7 mi), longer pool time (69 min) yesterday. And I cranked out SIX push-ups. The last time I tried that, I could do maybe 3/4 of one.
