  • Another 30 min. walk on the treadmill at 3.0 mph.
  • Thank you so much, Djproulx!! I am glad to be back and on this side of the surgery. I admit to thinking about a late May / June tri. The thing is, I've got to see how my body handles those stinkin' chemo pills before I start training. I miss my bike but really don't want to risk a fall and another hospital trip. And TBH,…
  • Wow! I've never seen that IRL.
  • Thank you so much, Ann! I went to the gym again today with the hubs and our kids because it was yet another snow day here in NW Arkansas. I walked for about 20 minutes but felt a little dizzy. Hard to admit that even at that low level of working out, I may have been over-doing it. Probably will skip the gym tomorrow in…
  • I got back to the gym today for the first time since my colon cancer diagnosis on Dec. 19th (and surgery the 21st). I walked on the treadmill for just over half an hour at 3.0 mph. Was it a bit discouraging to be so slow after doing a triathlon several months ago? Yes--but I'm not going to stop.
  • Not about exercise, but my absence from this lovely board: as many of you know, I pulled a leg muscle this past summer, kept putting off getting PT, and also my work schedule doubled. Then . . . 12/19: routine colonoscopy reveals: a big tumor 12/21: surgery to remove said tumor (determined to be a Stage 2 but surgeon…
  • A few months ago our town opened a new bike path down to a newly opened kayak park close to our house. Hubs has been biking and walking it, but I haven't. Today we enjoyed gorgeous fall weather and an hour and 15 minute walk with the dog this afternoon (we didn't get all the way to the kayak park . . . this time).
  • Dragged myself again to the gym today for 22 min. on the elliptical. Hate that I'm off my routine of regular workouts.
  • Nice work, but man--if we have to give our age AND weight on this thread, I'm out! I got in the usual walk with my dog, then biked to work and back. (About 25 minutes--faster going because it is mostly downhill.)
  • Dragged myself to the gym last night and got in 20 minutes on the elliptical plus a little walking.
  • Went to Ireland in July and had a fabulous time with Hubs, including climbing the 618 steps hewn by monks around 500 AD on Skellig Michael (where Luke was hiding out in The Force Awakens). I got sick coming home and am STILL fighting the cough and congestion mess with a second round of antibiotics. I took a month off from…
  • @justanotherjen13 -- my elderly cat is currently perched on my left shoulder as I write this, and we both like your stopping to pet a cat during your workout. Welcome! @Djproulx, great video! It makes me want to go for the middle distance IM. @nossmf --your description of nearly tearing your arms off in the weight room…
  • @Djproulx, great job finishing and thinking your way through the difficult spots of the Half Iron race. Those photos were nice to see, also. Take some time to really rest up, mentally and physically. You know this already; I'm just spelling it out again. :)
  • I took myself back to the gym today for the first time in awhile (in summer my workouts move out of doors). Got in 35 min. on the elliptical and a couple of min. on the Helix trainer to stretch my leg muscles after.
  • Really helpful info here, @Djproulx. I haven't tried walking out of T2 but then haven't needed to when to bike part was only an hour and the run only 2 miles. Best of luck with your race!!
  • Two plus hours in the river yesterday just messing around with my kids--some light swimming, treading water, etc. I'm taking a few weeks' hiatus from running because I started developing shin splints. I tried to up my mileage too quickly, I think. I hate enforced rest, though.
  • Took a quick 5 day trip down to the Florida Panhandle to visit family and of course the beach. Lots of fun playing in the water with my girls, but the riptides in the Destin area have been pretty bad lately. Twelve people drowned in the last two weeks. We witnessed a rescue Wed. when an older woman swam too far out and…
  • Had a rare night away from home with my hubs, so breakfast today was a big restaurant meal. We shared a giant blueberry pancake and a Chef's veggie scramble (an open omelette over roasted potatoes). Also a pot of tea for me and lots of coffee for him. Instead of lunch, we had several pieces of chocolate from a local…
  • I keep thinking about how you lost NINETY pounds whenever I jump on my bike and start to think, "Oh, it doesn't burn that many calories." It really can, truth be told.
  • Hubs and I took a rare night away from our kids, so today's workout was really just walking around and window shopping in the quaint town of Eureka Springs.
  • I'm with you, @mtaratoot. I walk my dog nearly every morning, and it never fails that Sunday morning's walks involve seeing lots of cans of booze, soft drinks, McDonald's wrappers--sometimes other types of wrappers--discarded throughout my neighborhood, which is on the edge of town. Sometimes I bring a couple of extra…
  • Agree with you, @LenGray! I find it endlessly fascinating to hear what different people eat, esp. on MFP. With that said, tell me more about Ben and Jerry's Netflix n' Chill'd ice cream--I haven't seen that flavor in my corner of the world.
  • [quote="Ernest_Nigma;c-47526302" I could barely manage a slow couple of km on the track today. There was a time when I'd have hardly considered that a decent warmup, but I'm obviously not that guy anymore. Gotta start from where I'm at now, and this is a start.[/quote] I feel this. I've been missing my distance running…
  • Pictures?? Please!
  • @Djproulx, thank you for the offer. I do have lots of questions about tri training. Biked for 50 minutes today, high humidity so a slower pace.
  • Hear, hear to those just joining this thread! And a big "boo" to spilling tea. This happened to me yesterday while sitting on our wonky love seat (the foot rest comes part way up and gets stuck). I managed to spill near-boiling tea on my stomach and shorts. Ouch! I made dinner for a friend tonight who a) just had a baby…
  • @thiccc2fit, that's an awesome story! I've finally (at age 47) ditched the idea of fast weight loss and am embracing the .2 of a pound daily loss (or 1 lb off / week) that I'm seeing this summer. I've gone from 238.8 in 2018 (my highest weight ever) to today's 190.8. I lost 30 lbs in 2019 but then gained some back during…
  • 30 min. run this morning in humid conditions. Also some walking to cool down (ha!--not possible in 83% humidity). 36 min. bike outside yesterday, with another half hour of "water aerobics" ie, jogging in place or treading water while keeping up with my autistic 15 year old at our local outdoor pool. My regular Wednesday…
  • Don't I know it!! Ask me (or rather, don't) about my 8 minute TI in last year's sprint tri. All I can say is that race (the Ozark Valley Triathlon) included a 200 m. run uphill straight out of the water to the bike area in their transition. That was the worst part of the race, IMHO.
