I agree with Panini - veggies and high fiber/whole grains seem to fill me up and last longer than when I eat bread, chocolate, cookies. Even if it's the same number of calories, I seem to feel hungrier sooner. Not sure how much of this is in my mind!

I've going to gyms in the US and then in Europe for years and never experience any problems either. They always feel like very accepting environments where everyone is there to do their own thing. The problems have been outside in the "real world" where I've had people yell or honk from cars when I'm riding my bike slowly…

I also find it difficult to separate the real hunger from the boredom/fake hunger. I've been trying to go have a cup of fruit or herbal tea (no milk, no sugar). It takes a while to make and drink, and give me some time to see if I'm really still hungry afterwards.

Just restarting too. Add me if you like.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I’m mostly interested in being able to do a faster 5k next spring. Nothing longer than that on the horizon. I took the advice and ran a little longer today. The weather was great so I managed 4k in 34 min. Slower pace but longer time! Tired, but not exhausted.

Does cycling bother your hip? If not, a recumbent stationary bike might be an option.

Hi. I'm 49. I was in the best shape of my life 2 years ago, but somehow just slowly gained 10 lbs and lost some fitness. I'm here to get it back before I turn 50 next year. Happy to have friends in a similar situation to help motivate each other!
