  • My real name is Leah and I'm a fairly Kosher kind of gal. You can read more about it here A dear friend of our family, for whom I was named, had mentioned that the flour had to be "watched". In Israel, where she was from, this meant the Rabbi coming in and literally watching the processes, from deliver to manufacturing the…
  • King Arthur is a good company. And I'm 63 so yeah I'm likely much older. I've never even touched a bread machine. No desire to. Do it all old fashioned. Anyway, all I know is the end result turned out as good, flavorful and soft inside and crusty outside as with salt. And I know you don't need yeast to bake bread. I made…
  • Today is better! :)
  • This is the oat loaf. Made essentially the same way only with oat flour added at the end while kneading.
  • if you're making wheat bread well of course it "does something" for the wheat bread. But if you're making a bread from almond flour and other alternatives, then wheat basically ruins the purpose of the bread. Maybe baking bread since I was twelve doesn't qualify me as an expert. But I've been doing it since then and this…
  • Someone else said that on facebook however, I found that my dough rose perfectly, did not get carried away, and was perfectly healthy and happy without salt. So I'm not sure that "sing the praises of salt" is as important as what you put in and processes used.
  • But it certainly isn't necessary. I've made breads for years and always thought it was. But as you can see, mine held up quite well and did everything necessary to become tasty and good. Personally I think that the chemical reactions are variable.
  • My family loved it! :) I liked it very much as well
  • Ive been so sick! Even though i made some no sodium bread.
  • Here I am and with a success! I made NO SODIUM BREAD! see it here
  • I bought one and was honestly unhappy. In fact, I felt like I had been deceived by the infomercial. For one thing, I love onion rings and they didn't say in the infomercial that you had to use the frozen ones from the store. Instead, they set up to look like the guy had breaded them and had them on the plate ready to fry.…
  • Thanks Madison! I hope you're doing well!
  • I had to go out of town and wasn't able to connect to the internet to log in :(
  • Thanks Madison! Things are goin really well. Today's lunch faire was light and I really enjoyed cooking it for the first time- steelhead trout!
  • Thanks for posting Madison!! Great thoughts! And I know what you mean about eating out. I spoiled myself too early in 2019 by dining out on a day when I suppose I could have pulled from the fridge instead. And, I saw a distinct gain in water weight as well as puffiness! I do the cook n freeze too. A lot of this is…
  • I don't do coffee or anything with caffeine. I'm an afib patient and while some say its ok, I would rather not chance it. Instead I do a grain alternative (Postum but there's other brands as well).
  • Today is our day out day. Hubby and I go out for a small lunch together and we usually split the meal. So this could be cool! Welcome to the new comers!
  • In Texas chili isn't supposed to contain beans. At least that's the legend. Supposedly it's all about the meats. Basically cuts of meat leftover, smoked and then rehydrated into a stew called chili. Not so sure that sounds appetizing to me and you can bet the sodium levels are off the charts with the smoked, cured meats…
  • If I may- let's unpack this. First of all, family is family. You can't drop them (unless you move off the grid). So you're going to have to ask yourself: will I let others guide how I deal with and cope with my eating or will I be in charge of it? Unless they're force feeding you through a tube, I would suggest that…
  • Thanks for joining in. I've got a consistency issue as well and will appreciate helps and encouragement also. Here's something I came across: Rule #1: Never tell yourself “I’m not motivated.” That’s not the real problem, unless you really don’t want to lose weight or live a healthy lifestyle. As long as you do want these…
  • here I am again! Tried avocado toast for the first time and it's not half bad!
  • Checking in with myself apparently lol Thats ok!
  • HI there! Sent you a message! :)
  • Count me in! I have 70-80 to lose but am doing it 10 pounds at a time.
  • You're welcome to hang out and log in though. Sincerely- all welcome here :)
  • DAY TWO TO A NEW YOU Have you ever wondered if you can really change? Sometimes it seems impossible, doesn't it? And especially if you have more than one change going on, like changing your eating habits, working out, and logging in! Below is based on some things I've read. Step 1: Focus on One New Habit You may have…
  • Thats kind of the idea. I log in every day and then come here and simply share a message or a howdy. Today's message is: DAY TWO TO A NEW YOU! :) I like poetry lol. The messages are like mini motivationals.
  • This is my first time in the over-50 group so I'm guessing an introduction is a good thing? I'm 63 and was diagnosed a few months ago with non-alcoholic cirrhosis, first stage. Since then I've lost 22 pounds (as recommended for people in this predicament) and have seriously trimmed back the salt (also recommended) and…
  • today I had 2.5 ounces of home roasted white meat of turkey with 1/2 cup mashed potatoes made with 1% milk, sugar free homemade cranberry sauce (from raw cranberries, too!) lightly sauteed sliced zucchini and some home made gravy made with unsalted chicken broth, cornstarch, and herbox unsalted chicken bouillon. For dinner…
