  • Yep, in the scheme of things macro ratios don't really mean a whole lot for the vast majority of people. Also 6 years into maintenance and I don't track/care about macros. I've still hit all my weight/health goals. OP-as long as you're keeping your calories in check and are eating a diet that has a good variety of foods…
  • Op, you still haven't answered-are you using a food scale to accurately measure out your portion sizes?
  • I only use MFP for the forums so the free option works fine for me :)
  • Good to know, I didn't realize MFP had this option :)
  • MFP is not set up to do keto, you'll need to figure out your numbers on your own/using different site's calculators etc.
  • Maybe you didn't realize this but you're posting on a forum, not a journaling section. You're going to get feedback on what you post, that's how forums work. If you don't want feedback then maybe try a different venue-there's sites like Sparkspeople that have private diary/blogging/journaling areas. That's not how MFPs…
  • I'm a walker and always recommend it-you can do it at any fitness level, it requires no special equipment, you can do it for any length of time that works with your schedule and I find it very relaxing :) Its also great for your heart/health!
  • I've read over 50 books on dieting/nutrition and this one is on my very short list of ones that I recommend :) I've borrowed it a couple times from the library, so maybe check around and see if you can find a copy to borrow? It's a quick read!
  • You might enjoy reading the book, Diet Cults, by Matt Fitzgerald. He talks about this quite a bit, very interesting stuff!
  • You may not know this but there's numerous lower calorie bread options out there. The two I get are either 70 calories or 110 calories per slice (both are whole grains, one is sprouted and the other is a seeded organic option). I eat two slices of toasted bread every morning, along with cheese, and it comes in under 300…
  • I'm a former prediabetic and I was able to normalize my glucose numbers with my weight loss (no changes to my diet/macros ratios were needed). I also struggled with nighttime snacking, so I decided to cut it out completely, over the course of a few months-started out by not eating after 10pm, then a couple weeks later I…
  • Maybe you didn't realize that you're in the Debate section of the forums?
  • The main forums are pretty active on MFP, the user created sub-groups are a bit quieter though.
  • Do you have any skills you have learned during your weight loss period? How did you succeed at it? 6 years into maintenance at this point, the things that I attribute to my continued success- -learning what true hunger is, vs eating out of habit, because of the time on the clock, out of boredom, because of a social event…
  • Here's a good article about fiber, with a good breakdown of its roles in our body, and how important it is-lines up very nicely with DASH's food recommendations :) https://www.vox.com/2019/3/20/18214505/fiber-diet-weight-loss
  • I'm using it as a cheaper option to Halo Top, so a similar calorie comparison would be a decent amount :)
  • Here in the Debate section we all tend to get a bit 'frisky' :D But, it's all in good fun and it's a good exercise to go back and forth and have our ideas challenged a bit. Even as far as I am into this whole process, I learn new things from the forums here all the time! As a side note-I completely agree with you that CNN…

  • Why would I waste my time on a site that I know is going to be biased towards a certain way? That would be like me posting a link to an article listed on nutritionfacts.org, to prove that a plant based diet is the best way to lose weight and keep it off. Because they link all sorts of studies that show a WFPB diet is…
  • I'm not going to click on the first link because I don't trust a site with an address of ketovale to not be biased. For the second link though, am I reading it it wrong or is the time span they're referring to is 24 weeks? How is that considered long term? Maybe in terms of a study length, but where's the proof that a keto…
  • Keto has not been proven to be any better for long term weight management adherence than any of the other plans out there. So you can include keto followers in your 1 out of 100 stat.
  • We had a bizarre winter this year-between the polar vortex and the bomb cyclones, it's a wonder I'm still alive :p Schools had to get exemptions from the state, due to exceeding the allotted amount of allowed snow days. We were under state of emergency for a while, due to temperatures/wind chills etc. We also had several…
  • Also, I commend you OP for thinking of the long term, instead of just the weight loss phase. So many people focus on losing weight, but that's for a pretty short period of time-a few months to a couple years, usually. What they fail to realize is that maintenance is for the rest of your life-20, 30, 40+ years. That's where…
  • Weight loss comes down to creating the correct calorie deficit for your weight loss goals. Weight maintenance is continuing to hit the correct calorie intake for your weight management goals. Macros ratios come in a distant second to this, and is mostly a preference thing (barring a medical condition where you need certain…
  • It's been all over the news the past few days, about how eggs may in fact not be that great for you. There's a thread going on in the Debate section about it.

  • I'm in maintenance, so I eat at maintenance calorie intake :)
  • I just discovered the amazingness of Cool Whip Oreo Mix-ins, definitely recommend it if you can find it (it's with the other Cool Whip options). My afternoon snack right now is 1 single size container of 0% fat Chobani plain Greek yogurt (80 cal), with sugar free cheesecake flavored Jello pudding mix (25 calories for 1/4…
  • I think it would be awesome to be able to use HSA funds for exercise equipment! We had a horribly cold winter and I had to stop my walks. I looked into a treadmill but didn't have extra funds to buy one. It would have been great if I could have used our HSA to buy one.
  • I actually lost my weight while continuing to eat out several times a week and I didn't exercise at all. It can be done (and in my case pretty easily), but a few years into maintenance now I do appreciate the calories info on signage at most restaurants, (this wasn't a thing back during my active weight loss phase).…
