Where did I say IF didn't work for me? I used it as a way to help me with calorie adherence for around 5 years, it was one of the tools in my weight management plan, along with my food scale, my daily weigh-ins etc. What I question though, is the claims that IF has benefits beyond helping with calorie management. It seems…

How long have you been doing IF for? I did IF protocols for years. In all of that time I didn't experience any special benefits, besides it helping me with my calorie adherence, I'm curious to know what extra benefits you think IF is providing you? I have a lot of data, from my twice a year blood work panels/health…

Great job tracking on the weekends! I need to get better with this.

You can lose weight doing low carb, keto, moderate carbs or high carbs. Carbs/macro ratios don't matter for weight loss-being at the correct calorie deficit for your weight loss goals is what matters. How you go about creating that deficit is an individual thing-what works with your eating preferences, schedule, lifestyle,…

That's wild lol. Here (midwest), our newly remodeled McDs is done in 70s colors/theme-lots of beige/dark orange/70s green, with mod-style furniture. I wonder if the menus are the same, or if they have a different one in Loma Linda?

If I'm reading your post correctly you haven't been successfully maintaining your weight loss with low carb, long term? If that's correct, then how can you claim that low carb is successful for you? You say that many people have kept weight off using Fung's plan-do you have any studies that show the long term adherence…

Highest was around 180lbs. At that weight I was diagnosed a prediabetic Lost around 50lbs, normalized my glucose number (all said and done it took about 6 months) Been maintaining now for 6 years/consistently see normal glucose numbers, no longer considered a prediabetic I lost the excess weight by diet alone/no exercise.…

All food is fine, within the parameters of your calorie target.

Anything with calories counts-doesn't matter what form your ingesting it in.

I don't worry about protein intake but when I spot check over on another site I'm always above the recommended intake (46g is my target and I usually end up in the 60g-80g range/I'm a 40 year old female who's only intentional exercise is walking). I'm doing the DASH protocol and get my protein from plant sources, dairy and…

Canned-pineapple and that's about it (to add to cottage cheese). I just don't like the consistency of canned veg/fruit (I do use canned beans all the time though) Frozen-I but a LOT of frozen veggies, especially this time of year. Vegetables are frozen very quickly after being picked vs fresh being shipped around the…

I've read other things about how good mushrooms are for you and I always have good intentions to eat them, (I buy 1-2 packages every time I get groceries), but I forget about them more times than I remember them for some reason? It's like they become invisible once they enter my home :p

I'd love to hang out with the BlueZones group in Loma Linda for a few days, I think it would be so interesting! I'm tracking my DASH numbers with a highly sophisticated paper/pen method :D If you go back a page you'll see a screen shot of my tracking method-very basic but the simplicity is helping me stay on top of things.…

During my active weight loss phase I ate out usually 2-4 times a week. It didn't hinder my weight loss at all. Now, 6 years into maintenance, we usually eat out once every weekend (usually pizza). Sometimes it might be twice a week, just depends on our schedules.

If someone is morbidly obese, losing some water weight right away may be medically necessary/beneficial. At that point just getting any weight off may be the difference between life and death.

Been poking around the BlueZones site some more, I'm so fascinated by the BlueZones project and it keeps getting stuck in my head lol :# Found the BZ food guidelines to match up pretty closely to DASH, though they limit dairy more and then there's an emphasis on beans (2 servings a day/1 cup), that DASH doesn't have. I…

When I was in my active weight loss phase (with around 50lbs to lose), one of the things that I had to learn was that I would not starve to death if I still felt a little hungry after my designated food was gone. I may feel one way but I learned that those feelings can be false/misleading. At first I felt like a little kid…

Morning everyone! We're seeing amazing temps today (last week we were in the single digits and today we're going to see 62! Warmest day since last October woohoo!). The sun is out in full force right now but thunderstorms are coming in, so I'm going to get in a 2 mile walk before they hit. We're also on notice for…

I've gained weight while doing IF so yeah-nothing magical about it :p OP, I'm 6 years into maintenance so I've got a pretty good handle on things at this point. I go more by my daily/weekly/monthly weigh-in trends vs daily calorie tracking. I do some mental calorie math throughout the day and still use my food scale to…

Welcome to the group, we're a pretty awesome bunch :# B) Sounds like you're approaching maintenance with a good plan in place!

I don't take any vitamins, get what I need from veggies and fruit. I've taken them in the past (including fish oil) and my doctor recommended that I stop taking them. Quit them a couple years ago and my blood work panels/health markers are still good, no deficiencies.

People lose weight on a low carb diet by being at the correct calorie deficit for their weight loss goals, same as with any other diet plan. You may lose more initially by switching to a lower carb macro ratio, but this is due to water weight and isn't actual fat losses. After that initial whoosh your weight will settle…

This. Exercise is good for health, but has a pretty minimal impact for weight loss (especially since it tends to make you hungry afterwards and it's easy to eat away any calories earned). Op, focus on your food intake-make sure you're accurately tracking your intake (food scale), and also that you're choosing correct…

I'm in that position right now, working on some maintenance vanity pounds. Since I'm already at a lower weight (which would usually be the case as someone is getting closer to goal weight), my maintenance calorie intake is around 1,600 calories, (40 years old, sedentary for the most part). Now, to lose weight I need to…

Meal timing/meal frequency is a preference thing. Do whatever works best for your schedule, makes you feel the best etc.

There are no 'bad' foods or 'good' foods. I have a few boxes of those oats in my cupboard right now (in various flavors). I like using one packet with one serving of regular quick oats (this is a meal for me). I enjoy the flavoring of the instant packets and how quick they are to prepare :) OP, as long as the oatmeal is…

The quote option is being weird on the forums right now. My pp is quoted correctly now.
