I get that -- it wasn't until I hit the 50 lb mark that I started getting a few comments at the office. I figured by that time nobody was going to say anything, which was fine by me. (And when they asked me "how much have you lost" I didn't give a number, I just said "a lot.")

amber, sorry you're in such a tough place. I stopped and restarted 10 times both using MFP and not using it. I've had real success this year for the first time. My point is: it's possible. It's not an easy road, but it's possible and holy cow is it gratifying. Hang out here in the Community section, read the success…

I think what you are recognizing and what others are alluding to is that what we are doing here takes courage. It takes courage to push through the self consciousness. It takes courage to make the necessary life changes to achieve even small victories. But it's all easier with others who are also finding their courage.…

YES I HAVE. And I spent my teenage years in ABQ and still miss the food. Rather glad I'm not there now, it would be very tough for me to lose eating carne adovada and sopa pillas a couple of times a week.

That's true: I lose weight in Utah.

This is me too, good luck with your progress!

It's a great goal to hit the gym. I'm 52 and have been going two or three times a week for just over 3 months now. Like pretty much every other health/fitness-related goal, it takes time. After three months of slow progress I love what I can do now that I couldn't do when I started. Don't be hard on yourself -- just go and…

So sorry you're struggling! I've found that for me certain foods are very difficult to stop eating when I'm full. There is some science to this is well: https://www.webmd.com/diet/ss/slideshow-foods-you-overeat I've personally basically removed those foods from my diet, and tend to choose foods that make me feel satisfied:…

This is a dang fine community indeed. Feel free to add me -- my starting weight was 318 in February 2019, closing in on 60 lbs down.

I used to do that at dinner too. Or just the end of the day. Got home from work and started snacking right up to dinner and beyond. These past few months i have been striving to have high fiber or protein snacks in the afternoon that keep me from being ravenous at the end of work day. My fave snack is medjool dates, but i…

Weekends are definitely harder. What's working for me so far is choosing foods that keep me feeling full and reduce cravings: high fiber stuff like veggies, high fiber bread, quality proteins, etc. I also try to have "weekend foods," but modified to not totally blow my nutrition plan. If I have have meat I have…

Thanks! Yeah, it's really done the trick for me. I now look at my once-favorite (and yeah, way unhealthy) foods and think, "eating this will literally do measurable damage to me," and I choose something else. It's not always fun, but it has been effective so far.

we are on similar journeys; well done to you and the mrs!

Hi All. Love that there's a group for the over-50 crowd. (And it's surreal to believe I'm qualified to join, but ah well.) In February of this year I was generally feeling like poo all the time. Poor sleeping, poor eating habits, yadda yadda. As a matter of course I avoided going to the doctor because I have been…

Some of my frequent fiber-rich foods: avocado, broccoli, oatmeal, fresh medjool dates, sweet potato, raw almonds. Good luck!
