There’s really no other way to gain weight without exercising besides taking in more calories than you are now. I would say definitely yes. You can ad the weight without exercising but that weight is going to come from accumulating more fat. The weight you would gain from working out would be from gaining more muscle.

If you want to include whey the best time would be right after your workout you can also use before but I’d rather eat protein before the gym. As far as aminos I usually drink them at the beginning of my workout or first thing as soon as I wake up in the morning.

In general you can do crunches and leg lifts to define them more but I get noticeable results on my abs just by doing squats and from pull ups as I skip abs a lot of the times and those two exercises alone show result even without doing ab exercises.
