The short answer is 4 years. Looking back the first 2 were all excersise focussed. The last two were balanced, healthy eating and exercise. It was the last two where the biggest gains happened. Year 1 lost 5 lbs Year 2 lost 5 more Year 3 lost 15 lbs (fat loss started the day after I went caloric deficit) Year 4 lost 5 more…

No problem :D - good job on your transformation too! How long did this actually take you?

If you are trying to lose 'weight' (I'll assume you mean fat) for aesthetic reasons. Use the mirror. BMI is not a terribly relevant metric to go by and in the grand scheme of things weight isn't either. Unless of course you are trying to make weight for a specific sport etc

Are you trying to improve an estimated number or actual performance...

Thank you for allowing me to actually read something on this thread that doesn't make me what to pick my eyes out, lol. Yes V02max in and of itself is not a strong predictor of performance. Garmin is just stuffing 'features' into these watches so they can keep selling people the new one the come out with every year or so.…

I have read the "white paper". It only assists anyone who knows what they are actually looking at to conclude that this particular metric as it is estimated (happy?) by a Garmin is of no value. Please explain how using this metric is of any value to anyone looking to improve their fitness or performance? How would this…

And who said this? Not to sure what that has to do with this thread... Nonetheless what exactly do you mean by a 'TDEE method?'
-
Which would be wise as myfitnesspal is not great and estimating this very accurately in the first place.
-
I am very aware of the 'tests' built into them. You clearly have not comprehended my initial post. And what you are describing is basically what I said. Try and create a vacuum lol. Then let it determine all this based on your heart rate compared to your pace. Sorry but that doesn't make any sense. Heart rate is impacted…

Oh man when it comes to the science side of things Greg Doucett is a raving idiot. This is why the fitness industry is such a mess. 99% of what I see being spouted online is just not right. Unfortunately people will follow guys like Greg lapping up everything they say because they are 'youtube' famous, or have had achieved…

I've been mucking around with the latest and most expensive versions of these Garmin watches since they came out in 2003. I've just reread what you wrote 4 times (and I'm hardly illiterate) however I have absolutely no idea what you are trying to say... Following directions? Allowing it to automagically figure it out for…

Turn 'add exercise calories on' too off

Replied to wrong person...

If you are genuinely at that low of a body fat % and in eating in a calorie deficit. At your age you're going to hemorrhage lean body mass with your protein that low coupled with not lifting heavy. Sarcopenia anyone? RIP Are you chasing an arbitrary number or a certain aesthetic look? That number will be different…

How do you figure that without knowing how much he weighs and what specific activity he is engaged in?
-
Unfortunately none of these garmin vo2max readings are accurate unless you are running on the flat in a vacumn as they don't consider wind factor, temperature, ascent, or elevation. Just to name a few important variables they don't consider. Not to mention it calculates most of this off heart rate versus pace which is a…

You're eating in a calorie surplus. You need to eat less calories.

If the effects are above your chin, i.e. running nose etc. Go for it. Below the chin. Sore throat, chest congestion, aching muscles etc. Then don't.

^^^^^^^ This is truth ^^^^^^^ period.

Which part specifically do you disagree with? I would also like to note I said higher intensity, not high intensity. There is a difference.
-
In terms of time spent performing an activity to burn calories walking is very ineffective. You are much better off putting that same amount of time into using a cross-trainer machine, or a an exercycle, and using a 'higher' intensity. Or at least walk on an incline. Everyone has to start somewhere but if you can manage…
-
If you are trying to change body composition for sporting performance improvement. Results are best measured in actual sporting performance improvements. A number on a body composition test is irrelevant. Especially when that number can be impacted by so many things in these tests that aren't actually changes in actual…
-
Unfortunately you are not everyone and if you followed the MFP protein recommendations some of that weight loss would have absolutely been a loss of lean body mass.
-
Just make sure you don't use the myfitnesspal recommended calorie intake to set you deficit. It doesn't ask nearly enough questions to provide an accurate starting point. Nor does it recommend enough protein for eating in a calorie deficit to spare lean body mass.
-
These things are rarely accurate even just using them to get a 'status quo'. In order to 'relatively' accurate gauge any changes you would have to use the same machine, with the same operator, lie in precisely the same manner, go at the same time of day, after having eaten the same food at the same time on that day, and…

Yeah they were making them before fit bit even existed. Fit bit is one of the new kids on the block. Garmin is one of the original companies that started making these devices. They have much more experience.
