  • I've mentioned this place to those that have asked about my success. One family member gave it a try and determined it wasn't for him. He has been wildly successful without using his own approach as have other friends of mine. They have lost and maintained without logging anything. Just mention that it has been helpful to…
  • Housing costs vary across the country greatly. Our property tax bill is potentially as much as or more than some people's mortgage. Jobs have always been volatile so we've never exceeded our personal debt / risk tolerance (which is very low) knowing at any moment we could be living on one income at any time. This, along…
  • This... right here... 4 years into it myself and nothing could be more true than this.
  • Any and all forms of Social Media can consume a great deal of time, if you allow it to. People use it differently at different times of their life as well, I know I do. Over the years I've come and gone from here as my life schedule allows. Friends list here are optional and sometimes can be very helpful, but it's…
  • I began 5 years ago when I was 48. However, I don't consider myself a true 'runner'. I initially got caught in the "too much" scenario - too many miles, too often and too fast for me. I eventually learned was just because my legs would accommodate a whole lot of mileage, doesn't mean I should do it or would it be…
  • ^^^ This.. for me anyways. May depend on the mileage you are going after. I typically run between 3-6 miles beginning when at sunrise. Almost 100% of the time I go with nothing more than some coffee in me and don't eat for about 1-2 hours after I come back. If I was heading out for 12+ miles, I may handle it differently.
  • Not saying you have it, but this may be worth a look for thoughts and ideas on prevention/treatment. https://www.runnersworld.com/health-injuries/a19574249/achilles-tendon-injury/ Be sure to check in on yourself for proper form as well. For me it came down to rolling out my calf muscles over many days.…
  • I wish I could say I can relate, but I can't. No one noticed me before the weight loss and getting fit - no one notices me now. My wife doesn't have a worry in the world.. lol...
  • For sure it's a sustainable long-term practice that can be done way into the ages.
  • In my 50's as well and I love Pilates (though I may not be an addict). My home setup includes a Allegro 2 Reformer and Tower in addition to a Spine Corrector. I initially began by taking private lessons for about 1 year with a certified Classical instructor who studied in NYC. Mat and apparatus. After a while, I began…
  • I tend to think we all go through these 'spurts' from time to time. For a period everything is working well, then one day it's not. Sometimes nothing has changed. Sometimes that's the source of the problem. Seasons come and seasons go, try something new. One thing. Find one thing to do today or tomorrow that you've never…
  • Amazon Music has "Coffee Shop" and "Coffee House" playlists... Just search inside Amazon Music and you'll find many options of genres.
  • Agreed with this. I think logging for a long while helps to teach about portion control and such... People have managed to lose weight for centuries without the help of MFP or logging, so yes, it can be done and is done. I know people personally who have lost 50+ lbs and have kept it off for decades without logging a bite.…
  • Interesting question. Rules probably vary by jurisdiction. I run in a Village in the early mornings and there are not many cars until I hit the 'main roads'. Almost all have sidewalks. I run the sidestreets and back roads facing traffic and always assume any car coming towards me does not see me and always get onto the…
  • You're never out of it unless you quit on yourself. Keep moving ahead and you can accomplish anything you want. Few/small sustainable goals will lead to large changes and larger goals. All come with success.
  • I'm damn lucky if I can make it to 9:00...
  • Cherishing time with my daughter. Missing my dad now gone 19 years.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGDA0Hecw1k Every generation Blames the one before And all of their frustrations Come beating on your door I know that I'm a prisoner To all my Father held so dear I know that I'm a hostage To all his hopes and fears I just…
  • What's 'older'?? I'm approaching mid-50's.
  • This... All the way! OP... eventually (probably) you may reach a point where you become sick of feeling like crap and that will be your own personal line to draw.
  • He's trying to pull a 'fast one'. Let him know it's not his or his wife's and to buy his own. Cold day in hell I'd prefer a treadmill over a C2 rower. I say this having owned both and still owning a C2 after 6 years. Treadmill long ago died and went to the recycling center. Would never ever consider replacing it.
  • All personal. For me - I wouldn't call this food... It's utter fake crap. I love cookies and desserts and all of it.. However, this example is a total waste of calories.
  • Hey all. DavidM if anyone wants to connect there... I also joined "My Fitness Pal Buds".
  • Will let you know once I try the music connection.
  • I'd have much bigger problems than weight gain if I tried to consume that much in a single day, much less a single meal.
  • Off the cuff... Musical instruments I have which feed my creativity passion. High(er) end stereo system for the pure enjoyment of listening. Kindle for reading. Pilates Reformer in my exercise space. I do other forms of exercise, but this is a luxury to have (for me). As much as I enjoy these, I could obviously lose…
  • Ummmm.. Dole Whips... Agreed with the others - just have fun.

  • Thanks again for everyone's input. I decided to go with the 245 Music and will post back once I've had some time with it.
  • Thanks for you input all. Just wondering users opinions/experience. Junk, good, the best, average....
  • Be sure to see a doctor. I'm not a doctor but consider searching on Piriformis Syndrome. That said, when I first began running I had something similar to what you describe and found a strong program of foam following my glutes resolved the issue. Still happens on rare occasion today when I take a break from running. I roll…
