  • I’ve given up on relying on my brain to gauge myself and my loss. Just like I realized it lied to me as I was gaining weight. On the days I feel like I am huge and big and all depressed is the days where the scale tells me I lost, on the days I feel like I look great and surely there would be a loss on the scale is the day…
  • I eat mine and have been happily and steadily losing weight since July.
  • Oh dear.. to grunt or not to grunt. Honestly i’m Sure people would prefer grunting over my tendency to swear like a sailor while exercising. This may be why I prefer to exercise at home (my husband and the cats are used to it by now). To be fair, it took years before I could knit in public, since there was a lot of…
  • I only know a little bit about SW, but I think you need to figure out what was the bit that made you successful with the loss. Was it the meetings, the tracking, the rules? I think from there you can start forming your plan with MFP. Maybe start off running in parallel...continue to track with SW,but start tracking with…
  • Do you like audiobooks? They are definitely what keeps me interested in rowing.
  • I would really like to take back the ‘curvy’ moniker for the hourglass shape. Even now that I still have some inches to lose in the midsection I still consider myself a curvy figure, I think it has more to do with the hip shape when it comes to pants. It’s been a nightmare finding jeans to fit in the low and mid rise…
  • I honestly cannot think of any exercise as being intimidating. This sounds so bizarre.
  • Heat, time, anti-inflammatories, and mild stretching when you are able. You can look up some gentle exercises to start with that should help.
  • Knitting is my meditation. I also read or listen to audiobooks. And those stupid match 3 games let me turn my brain off.
  • First off, congrats on your success. I think weight loss fits into the same category as religion and finances, very personal and shouldn’t be talked about unless asked directly. That being said, I think the only thing you can really do is model good habits and a healthy lifestyle. Trust me, she’s noticed your loss. She…
  • That looks like a good place to start. Listen to your body though and be willing to tweak. It doesn’t matter as much when you eat your calories as long as you are staying within goal. I eat 1/2 of my daily calories for breakfast most days and eat light the rest of the day. That is what works for me, others will eat light…
  • November 2018 I started rowing on my concept 2. In 2019, I finished several challenges, rowed all available days (I travel for work and pleasure) except for 13 days. And I made it to 1million meters! Basically everything was a surprise accomplishment as far as rowing goes.
  • Brookside açaí dark chocolate nugget thingies (crack berries as I call them) are my go to chocolate snack...I pull out of the bag 16 of them log them and enjoy. They take me a long time to eat, because I like to let them melt in my mouth. Try prelogging your chocolate snack and anything else that you are likely to eat and…
  • I’ve had it both ways....when I was young and thin I thought I was big. When I got big, I didn’t really see it. Now that I am getting back to a normal range (like you w/in ~7-8lbs of goal) I still feel big. Here’s what I have figured out... I used to rely on clothing size, but vanity sizing has ruined that. I suck at…
  • I’m down abot 30lbs from my first known starting weight...I had lost some already before I stepped on the scale, so I don’t know what my true starting weight was. I remember is February I got my first “have you lost weight, you look great!” in the wild. I was beaming. It was an old friend that I hadn’t seen in awhile. He…
  • Oh dear... The ridiculousness is why I think it’s a light hearted poster...look again at the first picture with the weight bench...it’s not a stereotypical skinny/wimpy guy, or an overweight guy, it’s a buff gym rat guy...the one of the woman in the jeans is not somebody wearing something that’s just slobby or mismatched,…
  • Is their a training plan of sorts for these runs? It might be good to break things down to smaller chunks. If tough Mudder doesn’t have one, I know the spartan race website has some free ones. I may or may not be pondering a spartan race in May....
  • When you were active in crossfit what would your reaction be to someone walking in out of shape from a hiatus? I’m guessing you would be cheering them on and supportive, am I right?
  • I’m not saying there aren’t more than 2 options, but it seems like doctors generally come down to one of the two approaches, or they are perceived to. And that I can understand why they do.
  • Understood, but for every person like you there is one who would react the total opposite “OMG, the first thing my doctor said was that I’m overweight don’t they think I know that! “ and then shut down to anything else they said. Like I said..can’t win.
  • I think I took this different from you. Yes it’s a little tongue in cheek, but did you read the bits in parentheses? To me it’s more a message to help someone to get over the intimidation factor of starting at the gym.
  • I think PCPs can’t win in this situation. Either they mention the weight as a possible cause for issues and are told they are focusing on the wrong thing, or they don’t mention it and they are not helping. I can understand why they either get stuck in the loop of blaming everything on weight or just ignoring it.
  • In theory it sounds like a good idea, but I would suggest one with a combo lock instead. The one you linked will lock you and your boyfriend out for a set time.
  • My first holiday with MFP, I didn’t log, I was going to but we’ll life got in the way. I didn’t think about calories too much, because, well, life got in the way. Today, back to logging and exercise (Icame to grips with the fact I didn’t row on Tuesday because of a busy schedule). I feel good and had a wonderful time with…
  • Eh...it’s sold and fulfilled by amazon, price was comparable to the C2 site, and credit card used. Between all that I felt more confident going through Amazon with their customer service than I did going direct through C2, who I was not familiar with at the time. If my choice was Craigslist or C2, then I totally would go…
  • I bought mine from amazon. Just to add to your list.
  • I am a C2 evangelist. (I’m sure other ergs are good and will provide a great workout too). C2 has been the key to my fitness and weight loss journey. I started with it a little over a year ago with the goal of rowing at least 15 min a day on non travel days. A year later I’m now rowing 30 min a day , I only missed 13 non…
  • Eh..we all have our motivators and they are all different. If it’s the workout clothes that gives you the boost, that’s great. If it’s something else, wonderful. Whatever cracks the nut, as they say. Me, I’m lazy. Can’t be bothered to get to the gym. So I have a rowing erg in the basement. My workout wear consists of cheap…
  • I’m going to make a generalization here, but in my experience men are more utilitarian in their clothes preferences and how they shop than woean. I say this as being the exception to that generalization;). From my observation of watching men shop, there is less of a visualization component to shopping, it’s more about will…
