@FrecklePatch oh one more thing I forgot. A friend recommended checking big lots for keto ingredients. She said it's hit or miss but dirt cheap. I haven't tried it yet, but thought I would pass that info along.

@FrecklePatch My pleasure. I'm wishing you GOOD LUCK, and I'm pulling for you. I have had good luck at Walmart for cheaper ingredients. That's where I get my erythritol, (great value brand) PB2, almond flour, chia seeds, etc. Don't forget about TVP. It's great for making ground "meat". Works perfect for taco salad, lettuce…

@shannonigans84 not pathetic. It's actually great. Many people just give in and give up. The fact that you keep coming back shows your persistence. Life happens. You are not afraid to get back on the horse, no matter how many times you get thrown. That is fearlessness. You got this!

oh my goodness, @FrecklePatch, I SO HEAR YOU. I am totally an all or nothing person. To be completely honest here, I think the only way I personally was able to let go and do it slow is I wasn't actually trying to lose weight, or even be healthy. I was just in so much pain from the lupus and I had read that getting rid of…

@FrecklePatch I connected so much with your post! I have struggled in so many of the same ways. I was a vegetarian for years because I love animals (but I love meat, so.... lol), I was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, I have struggled with eating disorders and OCD and depression for my whole life. Thank you…

It depends on the person, of course, but personally, I lost about 60 lbs in less than 5 months by just cutting out sugar, flour, and alcohol. I was still eating things like fruit, oatmeal, lentils, etc, though not a ton. And I didn't restrict my fat, but I wasn't loading up on it either. If you feel good (no headaches,…

@anubis609 Agreed! Personally, I like to track for a while, to record what I have been doing, and then make adjustments. I wait until I feel I have settled into a good routine, then I lay off the tracking. When I feel I am starting to slip or not seeing the results I want, I head back to the tracker. I feel this is…

I think you are onto something here, @maureenkhilde. An individual may find they eat 1300 calories a day, lots of carbs, and they are always still hungry, so they cheat more, or fall of the wagon, so to speak, and therefore do not lose weight. Meanwhile, another individual on the same type of calorie restriction finds…

@AzarielMoon one last thought - if meat fats bother you, and you find avacado or coconut oil tolerable, you could try cooking your lean meat in avocado oil (refined has a very high smoke point, so is perfect for cooking meat in), or try playing around with higher fat sauces made with good oils.
-
@AzarielMoon I also struggle to hit a healthy minimum calorie level. I have found that fats help me to meet my minimum calories. Yet, as you said, fats seem to bother you. So, I am wondering if it might be the kinds of fats you are eating. Usually fried food is fried in poor quality oils (canola, soybean, corn, etc). Also,…

Thanks, @anubis609. Good to know. I have started looking more at weekly macros/caloric deficit. This helps me relax a bit regarding my day to day numbers.

I like Determined December! Some of my goals are not really very data measurable, and I can obsess over data, so I want to incorporate more healthy habits that don't necessarily rely on measurable data. Determined December goals (rough draft): 1) I am determined to find delicious creative ways to add more veggies to every…

Fascinating discussion! Perhaps the disagreement stems from the fact that the CICO equation is different for every person, because every body burns calories slightly differently, if they have a different BMR, perhaps some kind of disorder, insulin resistance, more muscle mass, or something else that affects BMR that maybe…

Yes! I too noticed things taste sweet after I eat erythritol. But I generally only eat it for desert, which means when I drink my unsweetened night-time tea, it tastes sweetened, so I actually like that.
-
Hi @carolgrimes217. I feel your woes! I eat a vega smoothie every day with a tbsp of coconut oil, 2 tbsp pb2, half cup yellow squash, 2 tsp cacao nibs, 1 tsp flax meal, 1 tsp hemp seed, half cup unsweetened almond milk, and half cup water and ice. I add some erythritol if I want some sweet to it, as I buy unsweetened…

@tcunbeliever Yesssss I think that's what's happening to me. My current choices are reacting badly. I have mixed it up a bit, but it's still not cutting it. Currently I use Alaffia coconut oil deodorant, but I am going to give the arm & hammer one a try!
-
Thanks @Sunny_Bunny_ ! I will give that a try.

Me too!! My herbal tea tastes sweet to me now. Water sometimes too. I don’t even want my special keto baked goods my friend makes for me anymore. Now that just seems downright ungrateful 🤣
-
I struggle with this as well. Some days, a lot of days actually, I really have a hard time eating enough. This has never been a problem for me before 🤣
-
Welcome, @robin_myers33! I also love to bake, but I haven't given it a try on keto/lchf yet. I bought some erythritol and almond flour so I can experiment, but I am nervous to try because those ingredients are expensive! My neighbor has a keto baked goods and her stuff is absolutely amazing. I would love to raid her recipe…

When I want to spoil myself with my green tea, I go for Townshend's Tea Dragon Pearl Jasmine. I also love Matcha but I just can't afford it.

@maureenkhilde I always roast a chicken for thanksgiving because I am not a turkey fan either. Love the tips here. Mashed parsnips and turnips! Gonna try them both. Thanks!

I like Erythritol. Great for baking, tastes very similar to real sugar. Often I cannot tell the difference. Here are some great articles for more info: https://draxe.com/nutrition/erythritol/ https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/erythritol And here is a good breakdown on low-carb sweeteners:…

Such a good thread! Hope we can resurrect it... My hack: I started getting up when I open my eyes. Sounds silly, but I used to just roll over and go back to sleep til my alarm annoyingly woke me. Since I started doing this, I found it easier to go to bed at a reasonable time at night, I fall asleep faster, and I sleep…

Great recommendation! I will give this a try. Thank you!

@shidevlin you must’ve read my mind today. I was thinking about this just today! After beating myself up for not reaching my carb goals, I did a big ol’ face palm. 🤦🏻♀️ Duh!!! Net carbs!!! Why is MFP counting my fiber against me? MFP, please please please calc my net carbs! TY.
-
Welcome! I'm new this week to MFP. It's not super intuitive, but I think I have the hang of it now. Feel free to reach out and I'd be glad to help you with whatever I can. Also, I love to sing Jolene at open mic night :)

For those interested, here are 4 published medical studies on intermittent fasting, including some data suggesting that intermittent fasting increased fat loss, and all data indicating that IF results in either less muscle loss or equal muscle loss to other calorie restriction methods. Would love to read other published…

@NovusDies your dog reminds me of my cat, Pooka. We bought a bird feeder to hang outside the window by his cat tree. Have you ever seen the cat cucumber videos? Pooka reacted similarly - like the bird feeder was some invading predator come to attack him. :D

We can agree to disagree. I will continue to make my choices using research, data, and my personal experiences. The fact that something makes sense to me because it aligns with historical and evolutionary principles is a bonus.
