  • Great progress! I am now fighting a sudden urge for buttered popcorn.
  • Friday weigh-in. Woke up to snow and ice. Have a great weekend everybody! Start 226 lbs (July 2020) Goal: 150 lbs Nov 30 188 Dec 7 186.2 Dec 12 184 Dec 19 182 Dec 26 183.6 Jan 2 183.2 Jan 9 182.6 Jan 16 179.6 Jan 22 178 Jan 30 176.6 Feb 5 176.2 Feb 12 175.2 (lost 50.8 lbs!)
  • The sun actually came out today in Portland, Oregon! Got my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine and I'm going for a walk.
  • @RubyRed427 I can't visit my stepmom anymore because she keeps a large stash of Dove dark chocolate candies in her kitchen. Those are too good to resist.
  • That's exactly what was thinking this morning. I was telling myself to expect the worse because I felt like I hadn't done enough this week. Turns out it wasn't all that terrible and I was just psyching myself out. When my weight goes up or plateaus, I look at the graph of my overall loss and realize one or two bad weeks is…
  • Also, fruit is good for that sweet tooth. I add berries to high protein greek yogurt or have a banana. Some sweeter types of apples are also good for cravings: Honeycrisp, Gaia, and Pacific Rose. For the most part, I limit alcohol to one night a week and choose wine instead of beer or mixed drinks.
  • My Friday weigh-in: not as much exercise this week, so my weight loss slowed down. I'm ok with that because I was able to limit my calories without feeling starved. I had my annual physical and my doctor was really happy about my weight loss and he told me that it might be harder to lose more weight so quickly. It doesn't…
  • @frankwbrown. I'm crazy about walking and hiking and, like you, enjoy finding new places to explore. One of my neighbors likes to document her walks by taking photos of unusual things she finds on her walks, mostly strange decorations in people's yards (we have a lot of that in Portland). Enjoy your walks and keep up your…
  • I'm very dependent on my walks and hikes to lose weight and stay physically and mentally healthy. So I go outside, which is risky. Lately,I've been wearing multiple masks for protection from all the maskless people out there. I used to wear an n95 for up to 8 hours when I worked in surgery but it still sucks when I sweat…
  • Its not cabbage soup, but I gobbled half a head of iceberg lettuce yesterday when I felt like snacking. Add a little salt, close your eyes, and pretend its potato chips! Looking at the morning weigh in and I think it worked. Start 226 lbs (207 days ago) Goal: 150 lbs Nov 30 188 Dec 7 186.2 Dec 12 184 Dec 19 182 Dec 26…
  • I'm a day early on weighing in but I like the number so I'm keeping it. This is day 200 of MFP for me. I've been avoiding nuts (my favorite snack) because I usually can't stop eating them. Also, found a weird way to stop cravings: I eat a hot pepper (2 cal) and it kills my salt/sugar craving for hours. I started varying my…
  • I hope I don't gain a bunch. I just got back from a 2 hour, nine mile hike and started eating eating eating: yogurt, blueberries, high protein cereal, milk, lettuce, bell pepper, grapes. Mostly healthy, I think. It's hard to know when to stop when I do something like this. Guess I'll weigh myself tomorrow and find out.
  • @WeatherJane We started at almost the same weight and are both at the same weight today! Great job! I know we can reach our goals.
  • Saturday weigh-in !!! Wow, I wasn't expecting this. SW: Jul 7th 226 GW: 150 Nov 30th 188 Dec 7th 186.2 Dec 12th 184 Dec 19th 182 Dec 26th 183.6 Jan 2th 183.2 Jan 9th 182.6 Jan 16th 179.6 Jan 23rd Jan 30th Best of luck to everyone and stay safe!
  • I also like the Think! high protein bars but I'm careful to use them only on days when I do a lot of exercise (mostly cardio - hiking/walking) because the bars I use are 240 calories (20 grams of protein). Sometimes, I cut a bar in half.
  • This is the same thing I've been doing for the last 6 months when I shop. I tend to avoid the chips and soda and candy (conveniently located in the same aisles) and focus on the produce section and the fish freezer. My wife and I agreed to keep cookies and chips out of the house (she still gets her crackers, which tempt…
  • I hiked 9 miles yesterday. Still struggling to get out of the 180's... SW: Jul 7th 226 Nov 30th 188 Dec 7th 186.2 Dec 12th 184 Dec 19th 182 Dec 26th 183.6 Jan 2th 183.2 Jan 9th 182.6 Jan 16th Jan 23rd Jan 30th GW: 150
  • Thanks. Timer Plus looks good but I'm trying out Tabata Timer, which is simple and basically ad-free. If it doesn't work, I'll try that Timer Plus app. Sadly, the rain has really hit the pacific northwest today and I'm stuck inside. Indoors cardio today.
  • Does anyone here know of an Android app that can set off alerts on my phone at preset intervals? I'm looking for something that can help me with interval training.
  • Not a good month for me, but I plan to do better in January. I think my biggest problem in December was that I started snacking a lot, almost unconsciously. This month, I will eliminate all snacks except the ones immediately after intense cardio exercise sessions. Also, I'm going to try some HIIT (walk/run interval…
  • Doing better this week (so far....). I did my mid-week check and I'm going in the right direction but it's definitely getting harder. I think getting out of the 180's is going to be a tough challenge because of the holidays and because I haven't weighed less than 180 in awhile (about 35 to 40 years!). I'm really close to…
  • We are seeing a break in the rainy Oregon weather, so I'm back on the trail, trying to work off some holiday pounds. Hope everyone is enjoying their Hanukkah/Christmas/Kwanza. Stay safe!
  • With the holiday, I was expecting this gain but it wasn't as bad as I thoughtit would be. I hope I can turn this around this week. Starting wt 226 Goal wt 150 11/30 188 12/7. 186.2 12/12 184 12/19 182 12/26 183.6
  • Hi Alyssa, Welcome back. I'm Ted and I returned to MFP after 4 years away. Gained a lot of weight in all that time and with the covid stay-at-home-orders. I came back in July when I got sick of being obese (226 lbs) and lost, lost, lost a bunch of pounds. I'm now at 182, still trying to get down to 150 and it's definitely…
  • I tried losing weight several years back and I was doing daily weigh ins. It definitely messed with my mind because I was getting upset when there was no downward progress for two or three days in a row. I always felt like I was doing something wrong. I even got a bit depressed and eventually gave up (there were also other…
  • These past couple weeks I've struggled with hiking in rainy weather. Turns out that braving the elements and hiking muddy trails paid off for me this week. Still, I want to try some new indoor exercise routines and I added an easy one yesterday: stairs. Drove our cats crazy by running up and down the stairs yesterday.…
  • Thank you for your replies, @JenT304 @Trina2040 @RubyRed427 and others... I'm still braving the bad weather on my daily hikes but I like your suggestions, especially the dancing /Zumba idea. My wife (who hates exercise) loves that idea and plans to join me in some living room dancing.
  • Hi, everyone. I have a problem. My best "tool" for losing weight is to walk or hike, maybe even a little jog, on nearby trails. I try to complete at least 3 to 6 miles a day, sometimes 9 or 10 miles. This has helped me shed 42 lbs in the last 5 months. But now the weather in Oregon is miserable, cold and windy and very…
  • Before I joined this challenge, I would weigh myself every Monday. That could be bad because we go out to our favorite restaurant (outdoor dining) or order take out during the weekend. I like swiching to the Saturday weigh ins because it gives me 5 whole days to make up for the weekend "indulgences" by doing extra work…
