Arnold Schwarzenegger said, when asked how much time one needs to spend in a gym, 'if you are there more than an hour you are doing it wrong'. I am not sure in what context he said it though, he probably meant at any one time because as a pro he was training three times a day. I think there is such a thing as overtraining…

I have been doing iF nearly a year now-16/8- and always start my day with coffee with a TBS double cream. If coffee is your thing in the morning I wouldn't worry too much about the state of ketosis, double cream has zero carbs and very little fat or protein in a single TBS, I think it is unlikely to kick you out of…

It is hard to know. My iFit trainer informs me I burned off 600 cals after a 65 mins home bike ride doing HIIT, a pretty hard exercise-sweating like a pig. But than I do a real 25 mile ride on my road bike in 75 mins and mapmyride informs me I burned 1500 cals. In actual reality the shorter HIIT exercise was more demanding…

We must be reading a different study. Direct quote " Here we tested a Constrained total energy expenditure model, in which total energy expenditure increases with physical activity at low activity levels but plateaus at higher activity levels as the body adapts to maintain total energy expenditure within a narrow range.…

Here is a 2016 study about the subject.. https://www.cell.com/current-biology/fulltext/S0960-9822(15)01577-8 To summarise the more you exercise the more your body will adapt and at one point the total energy expenditure plateaus. What it is saying is that you might be burning more calories with an exercise sadly it won't…

Ok for the sake of argument... suppose there are two guys, same weight, same age, running a five mile track. One is a pro athlete, the other is an amateur. I bet the pro guy will burn less calories doing the same routine, TBH I find it fascinating it is even debated. You seem to agree metabolism does slow down with age,…

See the problem with cardio exercises in general, including walking, is that your body adapts. What may have been a tough workout before, a few months later becomes easy. A five mile walk may have burned x cals before but as your body gets stronger the exercise gets more comfortable the body needs less energy hence will…

For me for years it was pure frustration after frustration, not really fear. It's just anything that I tried wasn't working. But I kept pushing, and than the d.a.m.n lockdown came last march, I thought now or never. I found a highly controversial strategy -lets not get into it, LOL- and finally the pounds started to drop.…

TBH the more I lost the higher my sex drive went, same goes for my wife. She's 44 I am 50. To this date she lost about 50 lbs I am losing about 90. In general our whole physical condition improved, including our libido. We can run more and we do sex more, calorie deficit in itself on a balanced diet shouldn't decrease…

That is just the way it is, at 19 st I was able to ride my bike 50 miles but not run one single mile. 19 st or 18 is a lot of weight to carry, simply too much for your joints not to mention your heart. You will need to lose some weight before you can actually enjoy a run. If bike is not possible I would try walking.

Highly debated subject. I am doing it myself once a week a 36 hour fast and for me it works wonders. I am pretty comfortable doing it but it took a while to get used to it, and I probably wouldn't recommend it to someone who has never done it. I count my calories on a weekly base more or less, and it definitely helps to…

H.e.l.l. sex got definitely better, I feel like an acrobat again, LOL.

Your target weight is very ambitious, good for you. There will be bumps ahead, it's inevitable happens to everyone, happened to me too. I am no expert on vegan diet but tofu seems to be a favourite, how about chia seeds, or avocado. It is fine to cut down on unhealthy carbs but you have got to replace them with something…

I dont believe you are mistaken or that you are misrepresenting what you do. I respect your opinion and everyone's opinion here. I kind of came to the conclusion that what works for some may or may not work for others, there is no absolute best when it comes to how to lose weight, except maybe the issue of calorie deficit,…

The funny thing is when I think about carbs, automatically bread, sugar, pasta come to mind. Not tomato, apple, or beans, or potato. I would say maybe same carbs are better than others, the problem is a lot of people may put all the different carbs under one umbrella. If beans or potato are good bread or sugar must be good…

In general to feel satiated within calorie limits, increase the fat/protein ratio against carbs. You dont have to go all the way to keto but by putting in more fat/protein it should be easier to not feel hungry. Mind you it is hardly a rule that works for everyone, carbs are kind of addictive but if nothing else works it…

Well I doubt you will get a lot of agreements with your diet-LOL. For what it's worth I am with you. I have been doing a combination of keto IF and 36/48 hour fasting for twelve months now. Right now I am losing roughly 90 pounds 10 to go. Going the distance with fasting is highly controversial, I have gone up to 70 hours,…

The bodies burn fat around the clock, but at different rates, depending on hormone levels. But never mind I dont want to argue, somehow the mentioning of IF always gets me in trouble.

You listed five meals a day as far as I can tell, that could be a problem I think. Regardless or despite calorie deficit, eating to often won't help. After each meal one's insulin hormone level goes up making it very hard for the body to start burning fat. Eventually that level will drop but then you start eating again,…

I am tracking macros, mainly trying to keep my carbs down not too worried about fat/protein. i have seen great results but for my diet I have to keep a close eye on macros. I have lost a lot of weight roughly 25% body mass in the past eleven months, but TBH It may have been more to do with me being in calorie deficit than…

And that's fine. Explaining why I may be wrong or why you may disagree is one thing, calling me a liar or troll is another. Not that I am offended-Ddsb11 seems to be- just a bit frustrated, I have been called worse, LOL. What else can I say other than my experiences, I am not implying anything, I am saying what worked,…

The word 'KETO' is apparently offensive. Why are you attacking me calling me names for something I didn't say, not very nice is it...you are reading lines that are not there. Who said anything about not having to count calories. I am not giving 'false hope' to anyone, I am saying losing a 100 lbs is no small task and one…
-
To lose a 100 lbs is no small task as a matter of fact it is very, very hard. I have dropped roughly 90 in the past eleven months and for me getting prepared mentally for what was coming was the first step. Because it is a rough ride, but worth it. There is a lady over on 'success stories' comment section who posted I…

BMR or TDEE, I am aware off the difference. But to get to TDEE one needs to know BMR. BMR is obviously not the complete picture but it does give you an idea where you stand. I recommended low carb/high fat simply because it worked for me. I was a great fan of high carb diets by the way had no medical issues-that I know of-…

This 'nonsense' helped me lose 90 lbs in eleven months. I thought if it helped me it could help others but go on...enlighten me where I am going wrong.
-
Metabolism works mysterious ways, sometimes it is hard to explain why things happen or dont happen. You are right, at that weight with any decent diet you should be dropping the pounds with ease. If I were you, to start with I would calculate my BMR rate to determine where my calorie deficit begins. Once you have that,…

I would argue a lot off people with T2D would be happy if they are no longer symptomatic, one could even call it a 'cure'. Most people are but from a few steps from being diabetic with wrong unhealthy diet, what's your point. Fasting is obviously not for everyone, yes it will lower one's blood sugar, and for some it could…
-
Bogus replies ehh? What part? Keto and especially fasting do lower one's insulin level and blood sugar-is there an argument there? . In fact when it comes to fasting the thing one has to be extra careful about is that the level of sugar in the blood might drop too much, but that can be checked and controlled. If you are…

I have been on keto for eleven months now and found the biggest difficulty was indeed to stay in calorie deficit. Sure in principle just by being in ketosis you should be burning fat at a higher rate even if you eat more than your calorie deficit limit but chances are you won't lose any weight, at best you will maintain…
