@quolwy I know what you mean about groceries!! I'm working, thank heaven, but need to go back to the frugal ways I embraced when I didn't have a W-2 job. A lot of times that means healthier, too--no takeout, no extras at the store. I do a pantry challenge where I see how many days I can go eating ONLY things that I have in…

@lisakatz2 I am so sorry he said that!!!! What is he thinking?? He may not appreciate it, but I/we do appreciate how much discipline it takes to lose 13 pounds--even 5 pounds is work! You are off to a strong start and I'm sure you'll continue on this healthy path. And he needs to apologize AGAIN. Stay strong!

Well, I whipped out the food scale and weighed out 143 g of Cheerios...got my measuring cup ready and found my gallon of milk (1%, but of course) to be frozen solid. So it's cherry tomatoes, straight peanut butter, and beer instead. I'm just glad the refrigerator works. I think I might start cooking things (within reason,…

Hi, everyone! I hope you don’t mind if I tag along. I’m 47 in July but definitely have the metabolism of a 99-year-old woman already. :-) Looking forward to getting to know y’all! Sarah

@pamperedlinny Bring on the coffee!!! But I’m glad the girls had such a good time. A girl in my congregation had her bat mitzvah/12th birthday last week and she and her friends got their own table at lunch—decorated in pink, of course! :-)

Well, I logged all of my food today. BOY, did I forget how evil granola is! It is made of evil! I have to make some homemade. I was without an oven for more than a year, so I forget that I can actually bake things. @pamperedlinny Book club sounds great! After I finish moving this fall, I should try to find one or put one…

Hi, everyone! I'm back. I lost some weight on here in residency, I think an even four years ago now, and I'm ready to try again. My official motto is "you're allowed to eat, but you have to be hungry." For a long time I've just been eating random things, so I have to recalibrate to only eating when hungry. Looking forward…

Maybe your blood sugar is dropping? I'm not an exercise physiologist--just a shot in the dark. Try some juice before working out?
-
I'm so sorry that happened. We're all here for you! It is in no way comparable, but I find that the community on MFP is distracting me from my daily stresses by giving me something healthy to focus on outside of work and family.

You might give Gimme Lean vegetarian sausage a try, too. It's my favorite kind of fake meat!

I've had a rough couple of weeks. Hell, just yesterday, I ate 4 ice cream bars, a medium pizza, and a beer. But today is a new day. Hang in there--you're not alone.

I did some online tutoring with Brainfuse for a time (chemistry and math, but there are lots of other subjects). The pay was pretty rough, $12/hr, but when you consider no commute and no work clothes/food, it looked a little better. A lot easier than babysitting at $15/hr...ask me how I know. The forums at…

Holy moley. Glad you're in close touch with your doctor! I agree, if you can control it without meds, best to do it that way.
-
But you had a CRAB BOIL!!!!! That's a NSV if there ever was one!

Yes indeed. The only way to do ice cream is in a retail establishment. I can shut down a pint of ice cream at home without even blinking, so I just don't buy it at the store, no can do. But a single serving of ice cream, even a big one, is by no means a disaster. I let my main medication run out and I have to bother my…

Jane Eyre is one of my favorites. Never saw a stage adaptation. The classic Masterpiece Theatre version is still my standard, heart heart heart. Also check out Villette if you like Charlotte Brontë. My father took us out to west Texas to see Halley's comet in 1986--I was eight, so I hope I'm on track to see it again when…

I dig the burritos from this one place, so I got a burrito bowl instead--save the calories from the tortilla, which is not a good tortilla anyway--and weighed it. Then I looked up rice and beans in the USDA database and went with that, and called one kind of creamy sauce they put on "Ranch dressing." Hot sauce has no…

This sounds awesome! We don't have crew in TX where I come from, but since I moved to the east coast as an adult, I've always been fascinated by it. Have fun!

Hanging in there, thanks for asking! I need to call my psychiatrist already to get some refills and a new appointment. I hope everyone is doing as well as possible. Feel free to friend me if you like!

I never thought of Hoopla--thanks! With this in mind, I'm going to see what health material is on Overdrive (for books) and rbDigital (magazines). Gentle readers, be sure to check out the electronic resources at your local library. It takes a little bit to download the apps and enter your library card number, but it's…

I'm 5'8", currently 205, initial goal 164. Would like to get to a size 8.

That's crazy! Some of that has GOT to be drug effect. Hopefully it comes as a nice way to jump-start your progress. I just turned down an invite to join the "wellness" committee at work. They need to have some events/supports directed specifically at mental illness, but they don't want to! I am sure they do great work, but…

Nice to "meet" you! I'm sure you'll get back into it in no time.
-
Oh no! How are you doing now?
-
Moving is hell, but I love the fresh start in a new place. You're almost there!
-
Whoa, I'm sorry that you're going through this, but it's great that you have a genetic diagnosis! Now at least you have some idea of what to do to feel better.
-
See if they'll let you talk to a nutritionist (either while you're in the hospital or out). I'm not an expert, but insurance should totally cover it. They will just tell you stuff you already know for the most part, but first off, it's good to have the voice of authority backing you up, and second, you never know what…

Yep! I started on olanzapine/Zyprexa for depression in 2016 and gained 40 lbs. in a year. Now I'm getting serious about taking it off. I am on metformin to counteract the diabetogenic effects of the Zyprexa, so presumably without it I'd be even heavier. My psychiatrist asks me if I want to try another antipsychotic, but…

As a native San Antonian (and a Sarah too), I salute you both for working out! No one can understand why I hate the heat if I'm from a hot place. My friend, it is BECAUSE I'm from there that I hate it! Sometimes while living in NYC I would get a Dominican cabdriver who also hated the heat...we spoke the same language :-)
-
You're a machine! I can WALK for 20 minutes, but I sure won't do it outside! I am from TX and I hate the heat.
