Hurt my freaking shoulder again. This shoulder has twice had torn rotator cuff, unknown amount of sprains, spent a year & multiple rounds of PT with frozen shoulder, it has arthritis, and now I did something to it trying to get dressed the other day so it's back to the orthopedic dr. Bleh. Made me miss my walking session…

Wow the weather changed rapidly. One week it was in the 90s, next week it was in the 70s, this week it's in the 50s. I'm a cool weather fan, I love the chill in the air! Trying to get some fall cleaning done & decorate, I'm a month late in putting up all my harvest decor which I like to put out Sept-Thanksgiving. Hurt my…

Well, it's not actually a fad (as in something new that is popular but unsubstantiated and will fade)... it's actually the way many human cultures have eaten throughout history. My doctor & nurse practitioner were very happy when I suggested I try high fat/low carb... and they are very happy with the results (85 lbs down,…

Something like 80% of our cholesterol doesn't come from our food, it is made by our bodies. I have known people who were on high fat/low carb diets whose cholesterol went down. And I've known people who were careful to eat egg white omelets and whole grains and avoid beef/bacon/fatty meats and avoiding butter and eating…

I gave up added sugars. Basically anything can be a snack if you keep it in the fridge/freezer/pantry, if you food prep ahead for the week, etc. I'm not sure if you're looking for something specifically portable, non-perishable, uncooked, or what. Things I might snack on include: - nuts - seeds - jerky - moderate to…

I'm the first to say low-carb diets can do wonders for some people; low carb/high fat eating is literally saving my life. For certain conditions or certain types of people, it is great. If you're interested I can recommend some sources. But considering you haven't mentioned anything about your specific health issues, your…

I used to live right near Walt Disney World & get annual passes so I could go all the time just to hang out. I'm not thrilled with some of the recent turns they've taken and I hope they fix their problems, I've moved so I don't go anymore but I treasure the memories for now. I was 374 at my highest known weight (might have…

I use the free version. It tracks your food/macros/calories, and your exercise. It's a great tool as is. I don't think there is anything particularly miraculous about the paid version, I'm sure some people enjoy the extras but ultimately you still gotta figure out what sustainable habits work for you.

Me too. I'm already preparing for Halloween, I'm making some treats for myself that I'm allowed to have (low carb, artificial sugar) so that if I get any temptations I'll at least stay in my lane.

@BarbaraHelen2013 wow, such a beautiful looking feast! I'm on one of my sardine fasts this weekend; woke up last 3 days with arthritis/back pain getting worse and worse each day. This morning I had to take some prescription-strength NAISDS so I figured it was a good time to do a sardine fast & get the inflammation under…

Air fryer has been the best kitchen investment I've made in a long time. I thought nothing would top my Instant Pot, but wow I love it. I use it almost every night, sometimes a couple times per day. Like literally I would give up my oven, my microwave, or even my Instant Pot before I would give up my air fryer. I find it…

1/2 lb to 2 lbs per week is considered healthy for most people. 1 lb per week is great, you're right in there. While some people struggle to lose weight more than others due to genes, medical conditions, medication, phys. activity level, etc. overall you need to just make sure you're in a caloric deficit. You can get fat…

Non-refrig I'd probably go for beef jerky, hard cheese, low carb protein bars, nuts/nut butters, seeds, canned meats (sardines, tuna, chicken, etc.), some veggies, & berries. If you have a cooler: cold cuts, yogurt/cottage cheese cups, eggs (hard boiled or if you can cook shoot do up the bacon & eggs over the campfire).

I think you have to take your lifestyle into consideration. I fell into IF 16:8 and sometimes 18:6 because I was doing a lot of night grazing (and sometimes binging). I'm a night owl and in the day I wasn't eating enough so I'd be ravenous at night. Or sometimes I'd just be bored and pick. Basically IF taught me to pay…

I would think so, it's really not that different. Both promote the consumption of real foods and avoiding processed foods & sugars. People on Keto eat most things that are on the Mediterranean diet recommendations, just less carbs & more red meat/whole dairy.

I wouldn't wanna be stuck with only 2 choices lol. I don't like sticking to any 'diet plan', I rather try to figure out my body's needs. But if I had to choose one of the two presented, definitely Keto. Keto is closer to what I do now (low carb/high fat); for me it is way more sustainable because: - I'm a carb addict and I…

I have seen people put a crap-ton of stuff in smoothies and I know a lot of keto people are big on adding MCT oil in their drinks and to be honest I am extremely skeptical that there's anything that really boosts weight loss a significant amount that would make it worth the expensive ingredients.

Hello; I'm 54 and I'm menopausal. Sure is a roller coaster, huh? There isn't a lot they do anymore, since they've discovered all the long-term risks of taking estrogen they really don't like to give it out anymore unless it's absolutely necessary. I was told cleaning up my diet would help with menopausal symptoms because…

Hello. Are you sure 1500 is your best bet? Calorie calculator is a good source to double-check: https://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html#:~:text=Though%20it%20differs%20depending%20on,the%20U.S%20Department%20of%20Health. Are you maybe working out really hard, which may require extra calories? Also curious, do…

I am diabetic... I do not recommend that approach for multiple reasons. First off, diabetes can't be turned on and off. It means there is damage to your pancreas so it can't produce enough insulin, or it means you become insulin-resistant. It's not that easy to just undo these things. Second, I've been on Ozempic &…

Low carb is generally the current recommendation. I stick to a very low carb/high fat diet (LCHF), similar to keto (5% carbs/25% protein/ 70% fat). My daughter has PCOS and my success has inspired her to try it, we have the same dr. who supports it. She does a bit higher carbs than me (like 20%? I forget). Keto is also…

Some yummy looking food tonight people are posting. Glad I'm so full or I'd be getting hungry just looking at the pics. Today I had 2 meals: A small NY strip steak w/soft boiled eggs that just did not want to be peeled. That's why they look so mangled like they're victims at a crime scene. And one of my faves, breakfast…

Not a dr. or nutritionist here but I would think the way to go with lean meats like chicken/turkey breast, lower-fat fish (tilapia, flounder, cod), and lots of veggies (esp. greens-- kale, broccoli, spinach, Brussel's sprouts, cabbage, asparagus, etc.).

lol I love how they act like no one ever thought of these things before. All marketed diets are just repackaging of everything that's been done to death and it always comes down to the same things: must be a consistent calorie deficit, exercise is a big +, and for long-term success it must be sustainable for the user or…

I looked it up because I didn't know what it was; apparently it's very similar to what I'm already doing. Eliminating added sugars, processed foods, etc.-- check, I also eliminated grains altogether. They promote 70% fats, 20% protein, and 10% carbs; I do 70% fat, 25% protein, 5% carbs. Intermittent fasting they recommend…

Tonight's meal is lemon-pepper chicken breast (baked in air fryer) + some delicious yellow crookneck squash sauteed w/peppers & onions in olive oil & Italian seasonings.

Mainly what has helped is staying away from carbs (mainly sugar and grains, w/refined carbs being the worst). I did for my diabetes but apparently it helps reduce inflammation because I get way less problems w/sarcoidosis & arthritis, I go days at a time without having to reach for the NAISDs when I used to be on them…

Then: pasta, sodas, cookies (esp. oreos), bread, potatoes. Now: steak, shellfish, cheese. Oh, and chocolate.

I didn't call it that but it's similar to what I do. I don't do 'cheat meals' and there are certain things I just don't eat anymore, like things with added sugars or grains. Some days I allow myself to indulge, like if there is a party or if I'm particularly hungry. I may go over my usual calorie limit or even my usual…
