I think of it like spending money. Only instead, I have a certain amount of calories to spend per day. I can splurge and "buy" something "expensive" (a high-calorie food) that uses up most of my allowance, and maybe it's a fun purchase but it doesn't give me anything practical that I really need. Or, I can spend more…

Hello; I care. Doing the same thing basically, my eating window is usually about 2pm - 10pm (I'm a night owl), but sometimes I go 4pm-10pm. I don't get hungry anymore in the day so usually I just have my coffee/egg/butter whisked up to break my fast, and that's good for me for a couple more hours. I think that has more to…

Hi & Welcome. Sounds like you've had a lot of hardship, for some of us that can mean comfort eating and stress eating. Good for you for putting your health as a priority right now. I don't worry about what is or isn't a fad diet or a recommended 'sensible' diet anymore... my goal has been to find a healthy way of eating…

Hello; I'm also T2 diabetes, when I weaned off insulin and then glimeperide, they put me on Ozempic for a few months. It did help though it really made me feel sick. When Ozempic became scarce they switched me to Mounjaro but I had to go off after 3 weeks because I was constantly nauseous and had severe indigestion and it…

Welcome!! I'm also post-menopausal, as of today 85 lbs down. Of course I had a lot more than 20 lbs to lose but it's doable. Yes the metabolism does slow down a bit as the hormones change but sometimes I think concerns are overblown. Just taking on healthier habits and being consistent can help. In the long run, no matter…

That is a great reason to be here. Welcome!

Just did a quick google and it seems pink salmon is lower in oils than Atlantic salmon, so that's probably what is accounting for the lower caloric content.

1 gram of sugar = 1 gram of carbs. Tracking carbs is really all you need to do, since sugar is pure carbohydrate. For a diet that low in carbs though, best bet is to avoid anything with added sugars, stick to things like fruit, veggies, and unsweetened dairy. Produce especially also adds fiber, which you can subtract from…

Similar story for me-- health problem resulted in large weight gain, divorce & loss of income due to covid (self-employed) and other issues led to a lot of stress binging and emotional eating. Welcome and I wish you well on your journey.

I fear you will get more discouraged by rushing it and giving yourself such a struggle. Little secret I've discovered: if the way you eat isn't sustainable (for life, maybe with some tweaks), when you go back to your old habits you will just regain the weight. Probably with interest. You can't sustain yourself by starving…

Sauteed kilbasa, sweet peppers, & onion in the Instant Pot. Added some broth, salt & pepper. Threw in a bunch of cabbage slices. When it was done, I topped it with a little butter & sour cream, and sprinkled everything bagel seasoning on it.

I started with a balanced diabetes-recommended diet and kept tweaking it lowering carbs & raising protein, then lowering carbs and eventually raising fat. What I eat now isn't strict keto, but from what I see 'dirty, lazy' keto is the closest to it. I don't bother sticking religiously to any specific diet that someone else…

I don't believe I said it applies to everyone, though there are some biological facts revolving around the connection between hunger, insulin, and blood sugar you can look up. I'm pretty sure I said this was my experience, though, and the experience of some people like me. The OP was asking for opinions. I gave mine, like…

@cwolfman13 @AnnPT77 I don't completely disagree, the obesity epidemic was also largely caused by reduction in activity and a rise in the availability of processed foods. There has been a combination of factors. I was mainly focusing on the low-fat craze and how remnants of it still linger in many of the recommendations…

I think it's good to make changes now and then; usually means you're listening to your body and watching out for your body's true needs, rather than just rote following someone else's prescribed list. I've changed the way I eat a lot on this journey from where I began and I expect I'll change again depending on where I go.

There was a study I read once about people who weight themselves every day are less likely to gain weight. I guess it's a 'nipping it in the bud' kind of thing and keeping closer watch has its benefits. So if you can do that, I say it's probably a good idea. If seeing those little fluctuations that occur due to water…

I'm pretty sure with the exception of things like water or chemicals (artificial foods), all calories in real food (including veggies) are made up of the three macros in one combination or another. Veggies are low in the macros so you have to eat a lot of them to up your calories, but as you eat more of them, naturally the…

Hello. I do IF with an eating window of 8 hrs, sometimes 6 hrs, because for me it is an exercise in discipline. I would snack a lot, even when not hungry at night. I was also notorious for skipping a meal, getting hungry, and giving into a binge at night. With IF I make sure I eat my calories & get my nutrition in at the…

Hi Becky! As a mom of 3, I know how those hormones and that mommy lifestyle can affect the waistline for some of us. Congrats on a fresh start. There are great tools for tracking on MFP and the forums are full of very supportive people.

I wish I was a runner. I am now a slow walker. But I used to be a wheelchair rider, so I'll take it. I would love to be a runner someday. I admire your perseverance!! I'm sure you'll get to that marathon some day! I'm not the kind of fitness buddy you need but I will certainly cheer you on.

Interesting read. I get into that kind of stuff. Life is fascinating. I agree that genetics do play a significant role in the metabolism, which is why I pretty much always say that diets aren't a one-size-fits-all thing. But when it comes to the claim that "you cannot extrapolate from them to other populations" I remain…

There are actually people who live on meat-only ore meat-mostly diets for years, or decades, and do just fine. Of course, there is nothing wrong with doing it as an elimination diet for the short-term, either. There have been entire cultures in human history for which meat made up more than 90% of their diet. Fat and…

Fat is generally considered to be the most satiating of the macros, and it definitely works that way in my case. I have long been a notorious food addict (carb addict mainly) binge eater with a huge appetite. Everyone is different but in general carbs are notorious for making people hungrier. There are metabolic reasons…

Looks yummy, I'll take the steak lol.

I wasn't hungry today so I didn't eat, by dinnertime I had worked up an appetite!! So I made one of my favorites. 9 oz rib-eye, seared in beef tallow & finished in the air fryer, w/1 tsp butter. Sauteed mushrooms. Garden salad (Boston lettuce, baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, sliced Cubanelle peppers) - no…

Sorry but as people have pointed out, that isn't a realistic goal. 20 lbs is more realistic. I do hope you don't worry about winning/losing a bet and just decide to get healthier, even if it takes a little longer.
