  • You can eat it raw, including the greens, and with the skin on actually (the peel, especially in larger turnips has a mildly bitter, earthy taste that I like. It is also loaded with nutrients).
  • You literally throw everything in a bowl and stir-toss like a mad(wo)man. I don't have the finesse for anything fancier lol. :D
  • Well...here is a variant you might like. This one gets you a little more than 3 pounds of ready to eat salad, for about 500 calories. 23g of fiber and 21g of protein to boot (as well as a ton of vitamins and minerals of course).
  • Cauliflower for me too today, as the main dish tho. We call this Κουνουπίδι γιαχνί or Κουνουπίδι καπαμά. Essentially a cauliflower stew with or without potatoes (went without, for this time). of course, the 2 pound salad side still applies..turnips are still in season here, so I've been adding them to salads since Jan. :D…
  • You know that you can also just freeze that and make ice-cream, yes? (preferably after dissolving a couple of bananas and pouring some vanilla extract in) B) Also, always sprinkle some cinnamon on top when it is time to eat, if you add it to the mixture beforehand and refrigerate it makes the whole thing more bitter for no…
  • Today I made a batch of chicken bolognese pasta with olives, came out all right! Came out 1350g of food, 2000kcal. So about 500kcal per portion, not too shabby!
  • If you are vegetarian and not vegan, try out the following: 245ml Greek yogurt 1.5% 165ml Goat milk 1.5% 150g banana chopped (a large one) 20g chia seeds 20g All-bran 8g crushed walnuts 2ml vanilla extract 4g cocoa powder 10 drops of stevia (or other) sweetener. 1tsp of cinnamon Take 65ml of milk and heat it. dissolve the…
  • Thanks for the kind words folks! We tend to not eat much processed food here, but simply buy some ingredients and cook them ourselves. It is actually cheaper that way too, since you make 4-6 portions at a time! Today is Clean Monday, the first day of the Great Lent. So we gathered at my brothers' this time. I made lagana…
  • Hope everyone is doing ok! Gathered at my Mothers today for the last day of the Greek Carnival Season. We had another batch of my uncles' ram, this time with red tomato sauce and pasta. The trick here is to use thick tubular pasta with holes on the inside, like the one we use in dishes like Παστίτσιο. That way, you make…
  • Hello to the team! Today is Τσικνοπέμπτη (a big celebration day for the Greek Carnival Season) and we traditionally eat grilled or roasted meat. So I went out and bought some Κοντοσούβλι for the occasion (essentially large pieces of pork cooked on a spit over a charcoal barbecue). Man, that was good!
  • It's Μοσχοσίταρο (Greek hay/grass), one of the main ingredients to cemen (together with cumin, paprika and garlic), used in the production of pastourma. The latin name is Trigonella foenum-graecum. The characteristic odor of pastourma comes from it.
  • Akis is well known here for his quick yet delicious variations on classic recipes. The guy came to fame after winning a cooking reality show here (master chef) as a teen. His site is also very well organized and has an extensive English section. Check it out! :)
  • After almost a year, I had the chance to make a special delicacy again, Παστουρμαδόπιτα! (Greek Pastirma Pie). My sister in law sent over some good camel pastirma, which has an extraordinary taste, there was no way I'd let this opportunity go away. So, we made it together today. The result was pretty good. Well, to be 100%…
  • Thanks for that recipe laurie, I'm going to try it out. It looks delicious! :D
  • You can do it Charles! Also that graph shows that you have already rebounded from the holidays, and are back on track and on schedule! Keep doing what you are doing, 90 pounds is huge!
  • A couple of large carrots. Very sweet and filling too!
  • Today was time for some Giouvetsi (Veal with Orzo), it has been a while since I made some! A dish of that combined with my standard 2.5lb salad comes at around 1100kcal in total...it's so so worth it though! Also, it's enough food to keep you full for the day, if needed.
  • It's a pretty basic gigantes recipe, I do a variation of this one (using green bell pepper instead of celery). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FMNwcwFa8U
  • Yay, Yooly three pounds is great!! :) I can post my Gigantes from today, but it's mostly the same as the last time I shared them. Oh well, here goes!
  • I don't track my heart rate (no fitness band or smartwatch) so I hadn't thought of that. Good idea, I'll give it a look!
  • Hello fellow losers. 6 months of maintenance have just passed for me! Well...I didn't do all that well during the holidays, and gained around 3 pounds. This was both expected that tracked though, so I had to focus on the rest of January to get back in shape. I did. Age: 42 Height: 167cm - 5'6'' SW: 177.8 kg - 392 lb - 64.5…
  • It could be a number of things really! And it not uncommon at all. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2639700/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3771367/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23470300/ For me, it tended to be "hey, one more snack won't really hurt..I exercised well today", or "man, that was…
  • Happy new year everyone! These holidays..I overate a little. To put it mildly... :p So, back on track, and time for breakfast! Hope everyone is doing wonderful, many salutations from Sunny Greece! B)
  • Thanks for the kind words guys..<3 This is a readout page from a BIA I did at my doctors'. It is very useful (together with DEXA scans) for getting a ballpark figure about your body composition, and more importantly to compare results across time. I'm very lucky because I work in health and have free access to this stuff.
  • Went to the doctor for my 3 month maintenance check-up. Results were good. Granted a small muscle loss is not ideal, but given covid and a hernia surgery limited my exercise for almost two months, the result is expected. I'll take it! :)
  • Made some mini Σουτζουκάκια (Greek meatballs) with rice today! It's been a while since last time I had some. Delicious, and not too heavy (620kcal for the dish above) ! :*
  • So...since my Uncle slaughtered a ram last week...he was kind enough to give me about 4kg of it too. Should last me for quite some time, I portioned the meat and packed it in my freezer. So..I tried to make a pot roast batch myself today. Sadly, it did not come out as good as my Aunt's. Well, in my defense I had forgotten…
  • Many, many thanks for sharing! Will give this a try sometime and let you know..I can easily find Cannelloni and Paccheri here in Athens, but will have to hunt down some Manicotti, since I don't see them anywhere. <3
  • First time I encounter cheese manicotti. Could you share the recipe, it sounds delicious!! Grilled some chicken today, and threw in some veggies for good measure.
  • Hello gang, hope you are doing all ok! Went to the village this weekend, and came back...five pounds heavier! The culprit (together with our new wine which is incredible this year) is this: Slow cooked ram with fries, salad and fresh goat cheese. Man, that was something!
