  • Cool, I just added you on Zwift. It seems crazy but the 100 mile day felt like one of the easiest of the week.
  • Bearchested Friday PW: 183.2 CW: 183.4 LTD: 23.6 Sorry for the long update. TLDR: RAGBRAI was awesome. RAGBRAI (week-long social bicycle touring ride across Iowa) last week was challenging and also a lot of fun. Because it was the 50th anniversary there were a lot more people than prior years (so I'm told) and temperatures…
  • One of my favorite sayings is "discipline over motivation." Motivation is very fleeting and typically follows action, moreso than preceding action. I give myself grace to do less than I normally do (i.e., reduce weight to be lifted, reduce volume, or shorten cardio time / distance) as long as I do something. Very often if…
  • Thanks! My hometown of Grinnell is about 60 miles east of Des Moines. I'll be meeting my family there at one of my favorite ice cream shops. I'm staying with a friend near Des Moines right now before we head out tomorrow. We'll be camping every night, sometimes in someone's yard that someone on our team knows, and…
  • Bearchested Friday PW: 185.4 CW: 183.2 LTD: 23.8 Jessica - I won't be able to weigh in next week. I'm about to spend the next week biking across my home state of Iowa. Iowa hosts RAGBRAI every year, a week long social cycling ride across the state. As an Iowa native it's been on my bucket list and this year is the 50th…
  • A couple for me. First is I learned to pay attention to serving sizes. A few weeks ago I picked up some specialty cookies for my family. The company had nutrition information online, but I didn't realize the 150-200 calories listed was for 1/4 of the cookie, not half the cookie like I assumed. Of course I didn't realize…

  • Have you tried the MiO squirt bottles? I like those because you can dial back the flavoring or increase it depending upon your preference.
  • Bearchested Friday PW: 185.8 CW: 185.2 LTD: 21.8 Traveling last week, so glad to be back in the 185 range after a week of eating out and going over macros.
  • Sorry, I was traveling last week and forgot to weigh in when I returned on Saturday.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. Pets are such a huge part of our lives, and saying goodbye is so hard.
  • Not having it in the house helps me the best. Otherwise, I drink a protein shake or 16 ounces of water. I also think about how many calories the treat is and how long it would take me to work off those calories. If I end up giving in, I try to adjust my calories for the day or next couple days.
  • Bearchested PW: 191.0 CW: 188.8 LTD: 18.2 Had a good week in terms of keeping on track with meal planning and generally sticking with macros. I've also been loading my calories more towards breakfast and lunch (complete opposite from when I used to intermittent fast) to help recovery. This means I'm only eating a small…
  • I have the paid subscription for the past 3 years, after years of being a user of the free app. I decided to pay for the premium version when I wanted to better track macronutrients, as well as vary my calorie and macro goals each day (based on my lifting days). I really like seeing my macros per meal, the time stamps for…
  • Bearchested Friday PW: 189.6 CW: 191.0 LTD: 16 My diet wasn't great this past weekend with the holiday. I've done a lot better limiting candy and snacking, but not quite where I want to be. I've exercised every day this week except Monday. I just need to focus on dropping weight over the next 8 weeks.
  • Until I hurt my knee years I used to run circuits with jumping rope between. It's great cardio, and surprising how quickly it can exhaust you.
  • Yes, it's heavy (for me) barbell training. A typical session will be a foam rolling/ stretching warm-up, and 4 warm-up sets of squats followed by 3 sets of 5 reps work sets (2min rest between work sets). Next will be either 3x5 bench press or overhead press (after 4 warm up sets), and then 1x5 deadlift or 3x8 barbell row…
  • Bearchested Friday PW: 191.0 CW: 189.6 LTD: 17.4 Got back on track this week. Did much better with meal planning, but also adjusting my planned meals and snacks when I unexpectedly ate out a couple times this week (and making good choices when I did). I realized my struggles throughout this month with my appetite were in…
  • I usually exercise 3-5 days per week, with 3 of those days being strength training. I also walk my dogs 1-2 times per day. Lately I've been training for a week long cycling event so I've been exercising 7 days per week, still with 3 days of strength training. My strength training sessions are 60-80 minutes, and my cardio…
  • Bearchested Friday PW: 190.4 CW: 191 LTD: 16.0 My upward trend continues. I overate last weekend (but did much better with limiting junk food consumption at the Ed Sheeran concert on Saturday than I normally do on concerts). I've also decided to work on a habit to not eat candy. I've been stressed with work lately, and we…
  • I'm originally from the state of Iowa (born, raised, educated, and met my wife in the state), and still have a lot of friends and family there. Every year there is a bike ride across the state called RAGBRAI, 500 miles over 7 days. This year is the 50th anniversary, and I have friends doing it for the first time this year…
  • Bearchested Friday PW: 189.6 CW: 190.4 LTD: 16.6 After the weekend I was able to get my appetite under control and back on track, but still have an uptick this week. Starting next week I'm cycling 5 days a week to get used to more consecutive days on the saddle leading up to the ride in July. Unfortunately I my…
  • You must be back in Houston. My garage was 80 degrees and humid during my workout this morning. I have a large drum fan, but I was a sweaty mess this morning.
  • Bearchested Friday PW: 190 CW: 189.6 LTD: 17.4 I was both happy and disappointed this morning. The way this week was tracking I thought I'd have a gain. After traveling the last couple weeks plus missing workouts due to early meetings, I've gotten back on track this week and my appetite has been in full force. I've been…
  • I also tend to prefer sweet things. I went cold turkey at the beginning of last year and swore off all treats and desserts. I lost weight and loosened up my ban around my birthday in April, and then never could enforce the ban again. I think a full ban is too much, but I did learn some lessons and implemented other things.…
  • That's awesome. My family is still in Iowa, near where I grew up in Grinnell. My wife and I met in college at the University of Northern Iowa, but I did attend law school at Iowa before moving to Houston.
  • Hi everyone. My name is Ryan, I turned 36 last month and live in the Houston area with my wife (she's also in this group, KHill875) and two young children. I've been on MFP since college, but let my weight creep up with kids and a couple cross-country moves. My current activities include weightlifting and cycling. I…
  • I started cycling this year in preparation for a week long ride this summer. Also a big fan of Zwift and the Kickr Snap
